Monetise Your Twitter Or Blog With Alby

Getting paid for the content you create has been a key driver behind the content creation craze, bloggers, vloggers, and meme'rs are always looking for new ways to monetise their online work.

Video content creators

YouTube with the help of Adsense is probably the biggest content rewarding service but fighting for views is tough. There are YouTubers making millions while the majority pull in a few bucks, some are earning through their live streams and getting donations.

Some video content creators opt for paywall content with Patreon and get direct payments from subscribers.

A certain niche of video creators use Twitch, such as gamers who want to earn through subs and tips.

Social media influencers

Others monetise their content with sponsors, this could be in their YouTube videos, podcasts, articles, and social media posts. The monetisation happens behind the scenes and through fiat rails.

I don't think I need to explain this to you, but the payment and content are separate from one another, social media accounts strike up deals with brands, companies, or individuals wanting to tap into their audience.

Bloggers and journalists

Then you get the guys and girls who like to write, some ask for donations via PayPal, others offer info products like eBooks, or downloadables you can pay for, or you could sell your time such as consultations or podcast appearances to talk about your writing.

If you can generate enough traffic, you can also bastardise your blog with ad banners to make a little income.

Now we have value for value

As the internet and users mature, the idea of paying for content is starting to normalise, sure most people don't pay but enough are, that content creators are finding it worthwhile.

So I create throw away content every day on my blog, some people read it, which is cool, but very few are going to waste their time tipping me on PayPal or other fiat methods because the fees alone to do it would be a waste to send $5 let alone any less.

Maybe you read an article or a tweet why can't you give that person 10 cents? Well, you can with the bitcoin lightning network and it's super simple with apps like Alby.

How to get Alby

Alby is a browser extension that you can use custodially or non-custodially and leverages the bitcoin lightning network. Once set up you can accept payments on your blog, Twitter or youtube using a lightning email address, QR code, or LN-URL.

Personally, I am a big fan of the Lightning Address, it makes it so easy for people to copy and paste a human-readable address into their wallet and ping you some sats.

This makes micro-tipping a reality, you can tip as low as 1 satoshi, which is may not seem like much but if you can reach enough users all tipping you 1 - 1000 satoshis that can quickly add up.

If you want more details on how to install Alby you can find a tutorial here

Giving V4V a test drive

If you want to try out V4V you'll see a lightning address in my bio or copy the email address here - ⚡️[email protected] and paste it into your lightning wallet, it should recongise the format and generate the invoice and you can ping some sats over.
