Sports Betting Blockchain Projects | January 2022 Report

in LeoFinance2 years ago

I try to stay up to date with all the latest news and developments from Blockchain Projects that offer Sports Betting making a report each month with my personal experience and insights on how this space is evolving.

Market Overview

Some new projects popped up as there are so many layer 1 blockchains these days and having something Sports Betting related most likely an easy target for a potential cash grab for developers that use Sports Betting just as a tool for this. The crypto & altcoin market in general has been in a rather big dip which is resulting in -30% price drops across the board.

betswap.gg at first sight looks quite legit. It is build on Polygon and aims to be a decentralized protocol owned by the users. The BSGG token is a governance token with some utility and a buy-back burn system. From what it looks like they copied the style of Betfair and have a 3% standard commission.

It looks like they want to have an exchange, betting liquidity pools (which I still think could be the future of online betting), plkay2earn games, Fantasy Sports and some kind of social betting tipsters system.

This is certainly one I will keep an eye on.

From the first impression that I'm getting, the token is some kind of 'safemoon' scheme where buying, selling or sending coins costs 8% which gets distributed to those holding on to their tokens. I have always found these tokenomics a major red flag and just ridiculous. They do have a Sportsbook up (acedbets.io)and claim to be 100% Anonymous with no KYC with users being required to make a deposit. Overall not something that I will be getting into or using whatsoever even though it might be more valid than I sense at first sight.

I'm not sure what to think of defibet as the visuals of the website don't really give me that much confidence. At this point, it's just another blockchain betting project that I'm at least aware about that it exists without expecting anything.

So the big pump on January 3rd to 0.088$ was followed by a technical update announcement on January 8th after which the price crashed all the way down to 0.022$ again. Gamblers also managed to win the most of all months so far and almost 11 Million WGR have been minted so far this year. It is somewhat of a double-edged sword as there actually is quite some betting volume while at the same time it's impossible for users not to be influenced by the massive swings since there is very low liquidity to trade in or out of WGR. You could argue that either the entire system is rubbish and just doesn't work while on the other hand, you can say the marketcap is just way too low still. This is kind of why I like Wagerr as a gamble I think could do well in the short run at some point without it surviving long-term.

What used to be great odds on https://wagerr.com/sportsbook now already look a lot less attractive and I assume they increased the juice hoping to stop the bleeding.

A new roadmap for 2022 was released and their focus right now is to introduce the XFUN bridge to the Polygon Network. The Full Roadmap can be found Here. I still se FUN as a valid project and am patiently waiting for their Sportsbook based on the Betterbetting technology and I'm quite sure I will be using it myself.

Reducing inflation is good and all but if they don't offer competitive odds then people will just go elsewhere. I guess finding an equilibrium where the sharps don't increase supply of their token but at the same time offering attractive odds is a hard balance to find.

Indeed, I was actually surprised to see the margins seem to have increased while nothing was mentioned about it. The technical update repost said they increased the speed they are able to adjust their odds which I guess has been the biggest reason sharp bettors have been beating their odds.

We'll see where it all goes, over time I do believe liquidity pools will be how betting works best in the future.
