Uptrennd | User Impression Review

in LeoFinance4 years ago (edited)

I have been testing out different crypto blogging websites with Uptrennd being one of them these last 4 months. This is my Initial impression on it...

Ever since trying out Steemit 3+ years ago, I have loved the process of having a blog mainly as a way to enhance my personal Sports Betting and Crypto activities with the ability to potentially earn a bit as a nice extra. Crypto Blogging is still in an early stage with many of the reward and curation mechanics still being kind of flawed and up for improvement. What I personally look for is blogging platforms with a solid economic model that produces higher quality content and works in a way to get what is of interest to me on top.

How Uptrennd Works?
Basically everyone can make an account on Uptrennd and start posting their content in specific communities. The platform has its native 1UP taken which gets bought back and burned with advertisement revenue. Accounts can also be leveled up by burning tokens which give those accounts more upvote & earning power. Tokens can also be used to promote content putting it on top for more views. There are no real limits up or downvotes for as far as I understand.

Things That Work!

There is pretty much 1 thing that works really well on Uptrennd and has kept me on the platform which is the highly gamified Level Up System. Each upvote fills up a meter and once it's full, the points can be used to progress to the next level which increases your earning power and reputation. Up to 10 points can be earned daily by visiting 10 posts for at least 30 seconds. It starts with 1 point but for each consecutive day this is done it adds an extra point up to 10 daily. This system works really well to motivate users to keep coming back. The fact that tokens are being burned from these level-ups, advertisement revenue, and users that boost their content also gives the 1UP token some fundamental value.

Things That Don't Work!

How to get started with all the things that don't really add up on Uptrennd...

  • Reverse Incentives
This is something nearly all crypto blogging platforms suffer from and I guess Uptrennd is the worst in this regard. For most users, blogging is merely a tool to earn something and that is the only purpose and reason the 'content' or 'community' existst. The target audience on Uptrennd feels like users from lower-income countries who just try to hustle their way into making a living on the platform. I say this with all respect by the way and don't want to come across demeaning or anything.

  • Low Quality 'Content'
The typical post on Uptrennd is about something rather random or a news item. It has a proper image and a small text attached to it and that's about it. Literally, 90% of the posts on the platform are like this as someone made a ton of accounts to try and pump out as much content with low effort as possible in an effort to get as much out of it as possible. There is also a lot of good content on the platform, but this mainly comes from creators that also post elsewhere and use Uptrennd just as a platform to potentially attract some more followers without much interaction.

  • Empty Views
With the activity bonus system in place, users require to visit 10 posts a day for 30 seconds daily. I bet many just quickly open 10 random posts in new tabs on chrome to close them afterward and get the activity bonus. The gap between view count and upvotes that a post got tends to be really big on most posts.

  • Comment Spamming
Since comments can be upvoted, many accounts seem to be making comments just to fish for Upvotes which is a comedy show to be honest. Here are some of the comments I got in the past on of my posts. Many of these accounts literally have made thousends upon thousands of comments and produced the non-content I mentioned above. These comments also tend to get upvotes which clearly shows upvote farming.

So Yeah...

1UP Token

1Up is an ERC-20 token that is mostly trading on ProBit Exchange and Uniswap. It is currently priced at 0.00588$ with a market cap of around 1.5 Million. There was a pump a while ago when the rewards lowered but ever since it dumped back down. Post2Mine coins tend to have constant selling pressure wit limited reasons for people to actually buy them.

Conclusion

Uptrennd suffers from the same problems many of the crypto blogging platforms have with Post2Mine, Upvote4Upvote, & Pretend2Care being common Keywords. It's not the place to go if you are looking to read good content as the higher-quality posts most times also are on other platforms. The Fact that the 1Up token has at least some fundamental value along with the Level Up System being quite fun makes Uptrennd a valid platform for those that do already have their content to take 5-10 minutes a day to cross-post it and quickly visit 10 posts. It will give at least some views and if the platform ever gets anywhere you will be good starting off with a higher level account.
