We As The Consumer Pay For These Crimes

source

I don't know if any of you saw the appalling video with regards to the Apple Store being robbed in California on Black Friday, but I was stunned. Stunned as everyone stood by and watched the thieves do what they want. I get the idea that people don't want to get involved as there was 3 skinny teenagers and they could be dangerous (not). Today's society films the incident instead of actually doing something which is a scary thought. Maybe it would take one person in that store to show what is possible and then the other males watching would join in.

source

The problem I have is there must be 20 adult males in the store and they stood idly by watching it unfold. Ultimately the theft hits the consumer in the pocket as this needs to be covered by insurance and these premiums will rise the longer this continues. The price of the goods needs to rise to cover the extra premium costs so these thieves are also stealing from you.

Maybe I am seen as a dinosaur in these times as I am average guy who doesn't mind stepping in and helping others as that is the first and only thought. If you saw an old lady being robbed what do you do? I caught the young guy and handed him over to the police returning her bag as that is what we should do. People were watching me calling me names for the way I was carrying the thief worrying about his wellbeing more than the old lady. As a society what has happened as this is clearly wrong in what we are now seeing. What happens if you are on a plane being hijacked as 4 or 6 guys is no match for 12 passengers fighting back or is it just you on your own these days? Kind of scary to know how the majority thinks as I am now the minority.

This makes you think as to how many people would stop on the side of the road to help a lady or an old couple change a tire? 20 years ago people would not hesitate as this is normal, but you have to ask yourself would they do it today? As a society we have lost the ability to help others in their time of need and that is worrying.

When I was in the UK working for a tobacco firm they had no go zones as they were too "dangerous" which is a joke. Coming from South Africa with the experience I have being in the Army having worked in far worse situations I took over these areas. The previous area managers had ended up in the boot of their cars gagged and bound.

Over the next 10 years I managed to not only help clean up these areas, but was actually enjoying making a difference. Eventually I was pulled off the area after asking for permission to ram my company car into a car that had been following me as I had lured them that far. They were the main people in the gang and the only regret I have was asking for permission. Do the act and then plead ignorance afterwards would have been far better. One of my customers was nearly killed after being attacked and put in intensive care by these two monsters. I had been robbed on numerous occasions up till then and had secured the stolen stock back which had raised eyebrows.

I am not saying everyone should do something but at the same time you cannot just watch this go down. I do think letting it just happen is not the right call as this is only going to escalate and some innocent bystander could get hurt. People are too scared to get involved for the fear of being injured in the process. If you have that thought then you are not committed and will most likely get hurt.

Living in South Africa has taught me many things and one of those is you are more vigilant and aware than others around you. The fear of having your house robbed is genuine so you do the necessary arrangements to make sure your family and possessions are safe.

That video of the Apple Store made me realise how the rest of the World thinks and it is so different from when I grew up.

We are a society of "witnesses" who prefer to record events but don't interfere. I am amazed why the employees did nothing. I don't like Apple, never used any of their products, but I wouldn't support such an attitude either.

Many things changed all over the world. I was thinking that a heavy new global crisis would turn even more people into wolves...Anyway, thank you for a great article which is, indeed, to me another wake-up call.

Not looking good for the next generation and the ones after that is how I see things.

I'm not into Politics but they dictate the world's economy. The great reset...won't be that great, I suppose. It will affect us all in one way or another.

It's like we're grown soft and partially disconnected from reality. When these kinds of things happen, our instincts should be fired up doing the most logical thing instead of just freezing on the spot.

Soft is putting it lightly as everyone has become a pussy. This is worrying as they are relying on others to fix things for them. Unfortunately or fortunately I found out if I freeze or do something and it has always been the latter which is not always good.

I hadn't heard anything about this until now. Probably not great for my Apple stock!

Lol. I think Apple will be just fine.

It's way different and I think it's just how society has changed. They have been punishing the people who help rather than the people who help. It's not what I would like to see but it's all because of the policies cities/governments have taken towards crime.
