Hive Communities Analysis | October 2020 | Communities Created, Top Communities by Subs, Activity and HP Weight

in LeoFinance4 years ago

Hive communities officially arrived in February 2020. Before this there was in a test phase that starting from October 2019.

Communities should allow users to find content of their interest easier and also post in the communities of their interest, allowing them to connect more with people alike. It should help discovering content as well.

With the media tokens updated communities can have their own tokens in the future.
Here we will be looking into the following things:

  • Number of Communities created
  • Top Communities by number of subscribers
  • Top Communities by activities
  • Top Communities subscribers’ stake
  • Communities growth with subscribers

Number of Communities created

First let’s see the total number of communities created with time.

02.png

As already mentioned, communities went live officially in February 2020, but they were in a test phase before that. The period above is from November 2019 till June 22, 2020. There is some small number of communities created in October but for better visibility those are left over from the chart.

We can notice that there are communities created before the official launch date, but the spike in the number of communities created is quite visible in February. On February 20, there was more than 200 communities created. Afterwards the number dropped and lately its in the range between 5 and 10 per day. Interesting there is another spike around September 23th.
More than 2000 communities exist now on the Hive blockchain.

Top Communities by number of subscribers

Who are the top communities on the blockchain?
We will be looking at this by more than one parameter, but for starters lets take a look at the most obvious one, the number of subscribers.

Here is the chart.

03.png

The @gems community comes first with 7.8k subscribers, followed by @ocd and @dtube. These three have been on top by the number of subscribers in the last report as well.

Some other know communities there as @hive.gaming, @powerhousecreative and @leofinance with more than 3000 subscribers.

Overall, the numbers of subscribers in the communities keeps on growing. We will check this out in a separate chart as well.

Top Communities by subscribers’ stake

Another interesting way to rank communities is the stake of their subscribers. After all we are on a DPoS chain 😊.
What is the stake weight of the subscribers in each community?
Here is the chart.

04.png

In this type of ranking the @ocd community comes on top. Interesting in the last report the @hivedevs community was first in this ranking. The @gems community is on the third place here. LeoFinance has been growing as well.

Top Communities by activity

The number of subscribers in a community and their stake is important. But more important probably is how active the communities are.

Here is the chart for the top communities by the number of posts made in the last 30 days.

05.png

The gems community comes on top here, followed by Actifit and then LeoFinance.
Dtube, OCD and Hive Gaming in the top as well.

Top Communities by active authors

What about active authors? How many in the last 30 days?

06.png

This can be basically MAU (monthly active users) per community.
The gems community is by far on the top here with more than 1400 authors. OCD on the second place with 632 and LeoFinance on the third place with 567 active accounts posting in the last 30 days.

Communities growth with subscribers

At the end, a chart with few of the communities that have showed a nice growth in the past months.

07.png

The HiveGaming community has done well growing to almost 4k subscribers. LeoFinance, OnChainArt, Natural Medicine all have gained significant numbers of subscribers. The Photography Lovers is an interesting one, although started later it has grown very fast and at the top.

Hope to see more communities and more development on this side 😊.

All the best

Graphs are always the best way to understand the underlying data :)
I do not consider OCD and GEMS to be niche communities as they include almost all posts that are general enough that are not easy to categorize to a specific topic. In that sense, it is quite obvious that most users will post there. My first 4-5 posts when I joined Hive were on GEMS because I did not know which communities are relevant to my posts. And, there are multiple tribes that are almost similar in objective. I think there are two or more photography related communities.

Thanks!

GEMS and OCD contain probably the most shitposts of all communities. Every shitposter wants to be "discovered" by posting in GEMS and OCD. Therefore I am not subscribing those to not flood my communities´ feed.

Yeah exactly.
I consider 'OCD daily report' as a milking rewards scam. No one even reads and engages with the content and the people discovered get paid pennies while ocd takes the bulky votes from blind trail blazers.

@dalz should include 'rewards to authors' in next chart to show where authors are truly appreciated.

Personally I view onchainart, makeup and powerhouse creatives as some of the most robust and well engaged communities that have the most depth and human value. I also really admire the fact many females are committed to those communities and their value is definitely undervalued. Venezuela is also committing themselves to this platform without proper recognition.

The flaw of Hive is everyone is competing for "whales" to look their way and it usually means stroking their egos. That's a broken system and why Hive sees no mass growth. Some might be ok with working for peanuts but majority would bail once they identify those critical negatives.

That's why: SMTs must be finished.

As it is the system is too simplistic. "Poshtoken" a prime example. The thing is a phantom because of the very fact that SMTs aren't a product. Hive-Engine is too basic and to utilize it relies on individual coders to implement that second layer framework rather than existing as a toolset for enterprise to simply jump in and take off running.

Conclusion:
HIVE community/human element: great!
HIVE product after so many years: stale.
