Hive Post Rewards and Downvotes

Trending page as of now, post rewards of over $100 continue down below.

A quick summary of how Hive rewards work:

The feed price is determined by the witnesses and the median in the last 3.5 days is taken by the blockchain, most witnesses (both consensus and backup, however, the median of the consensus witnesses are the main deciding factor.) usually update their feed prices on an hourly basis. Feed price is basically for how much USD HIVE is trading for at the time. For example, as of writing, this post 1 HIVE is approx 0.75 USD -- which would mean the witnesses would submit their price feeds as $0.75 -- effectively changing the blockchain's feed price in the next couple of days.

What does feed price mean?

Feed price is essentially how much HIVE is worth according to the blockchain. Feed price also decides on how much an upvote is worth to how much a post is paying out. If the feed price is higher, a post may get $100 in upvotes, after curation split, that would be %50 going to the author. $50 is then split into two, $25 as HBD and $25 as HP. This is also the reason why most people saw a decrease in the amount of HP they were getting from post rewards, as HIVE's value increases, posts start paying out more in HBD and less in Hive Power.

"I am being downvoted like crazy!"

As you may or may not have realised in the last couple of weeks, a lot of posts are being downvoted. This isn't necessarily because they are doing something bad. Bots or autovotes set up when feed price was at about $0.1 USD, contributed to the post's rewards in a manner where a single line post with an image can receive upvotes of over $150 -- yes, 150 USD for sharing a photo of anything and writing a single sentence. If that sounds crazy for you, you are right, because it is. It is possible to observe stakeholders using their stakes to downvote some posts, not necessarily "zeroing them out" in a sense where the post does not pay out any rewards, but lower the number of USD rewards to a sensible point for the "content" written in that post.

Just wanted to share my two cents for people I have been observing in the last couple of weeks complaining about the downvotes they are receiving, or people who are surprised about the hundreds of USDs worth of upvotes they suddenly got.

25% of this posts' rewards are going to @hbdstabilizer to help stabilize HBD to $1 peg.

I have yet to experience a $100+ post. I don’t quite understand how some users are able to generate so much Hive with so little effort.

Autovotes.

Some people can't be bothered to adjust their voting weight. So, when the price of HIVE is up, you get users with triple-digits with little effort.

Hive is an awful mess. Ive done nothing but share original content for years but this last attack by spaminator seems like an inside grab from steemengine=hiveengine= peakd. My confidence in this blockchain is at it lowest. Powering down.

Sounds like loads of confusion on your part.

@steemengineteam is not Hive Engine, and it's not PeakD.

It's more accurate to say that you decided to join some sort of vote for vote nonsense in the past and entered your keys directly into their database. They then used your voting power for their own spam. Even better, you probably never changed your keys between your Steem and Hive account, so they automatically have access to your posting authority.

Hilariously, you'd have never given a second look until @spaminator started downvoting you to catch your attention.

That's Hive in a nutshell. Too many people giving their keys away like candy and then wonder what went wrong.

Huh, this is the first I heard about needing to chage keys between Steem and Hive accounts. I don't see downvotes on my content, but I have had unchanged keys for 4 years. Possible to explain?

People are not being downvoted because they didn't change their keys.

Some people are downvoted because they signed up for something sketchy, and when the chain forked, all the credentials are still the same, thus making it easy for the same sketchy services to continue operate their accounts on the owners' behave.

You are opening yourself up to potential security breach when your keys are the same on both chains.

Thanks for the explanation. Sounds like having the same keys on both chains isn't the issue, it's that signing up for anything sketchy on one chain would affect the other chain. Which isn't a big deal because I don't do anything on Steem anyway. Thanks for the clarification.

Yea I haven’t bothered to change my keys but I should. I’ve just made sure not to expose my keys.

Well i certainly admit to confusion on my part. I believe i have been seeing phishing sites. Then again it could just be me. Im having trust issues cause hive seems to have security issues, steemengine steemengineteam. Steemengine looks just like hiveengine. There seems to be a double spend with events on the steemit chain effecting me greatly on the hive chain. Dont know whom to trust. The more i research it it seems that mid level witnessess seem to be those that are involves with this all. So how do i vote down the spaminator. Its true i wouldnt of figured out what was going on. I was thinking all the stolen votes had something to do with my delegated share to upmewhale. Yer right about me being confused

Spaminator certainly acted as an intermediary. I saw folks on a certain discord begging to have their account ‘reinstated’ after doing some wrong or another and had been downvoted by the spaminator.

And with my passwords. Damn i tried a ton of frontends apps services bot voters, that was the whole lesson of steemit that you had to pay a bit of advertising to get your post out there. Damn, yknow, that business model was picked up by facebook twitter you name it. I remember pablomatts awesome botvoter site, it worked great until one day i was unable to logon. It was always recommended back in the day to delegate your spare power to earn passive income and not let your votes go to waste. Is this not true with hive?

So i dont think i should be demonized for being a victim of a steem criminal. Laugh all you want. I dont find it funny.
