Saturday Savers Club with @susie-saver | Week 27 - Saturday 03 July 2021 | HivePUD Challenge Winners & News | Win EDS Tokens for Comments! Everyone Welcome

in LeoFinance3 years ago

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to Saturday Savers Club with Susie-Saver!
sorry, no pictures, not sure what's happening there

Interesting Fact

This week's saving under the 365 Penny a Day Challenge (12.67p) is exactly half the amount the very last week will be (25.34p). I love maths, don't you? 😆

HPUD Winners and News

We had two regulars that posted about their Hive Power Up on 1 July 2021 - @jfang003 and @justclickindiva - both receive some SPI, LBI and CL tokens - check your wallets. Congratulations and thank you for supporting Saturday Savers Club.

Next month, Saturday Savers Club is going to offer to help a smaller account to take part in HPUD on 1 August. This post explains the rules. In addition, if you want to take part, you must be:

  • a regular commenter on Saturday Saver Club posts.
  • leave a comment on the post on 31 July 2021 including the phrase "count me in" (we'll remind you in the post). Your comment has to be posted by 10.00am UTC+1 on 1 August 2021 to qualify.

All qualifying posters will be entered in the WheelofNames, and the winner will be sponsored by @shanibeer to take part. You'll get a shiny badge and extra powered up Hive in your wallet. Yay!

I'm checking whether you will also qualify for any of the HPUD prizes - more news later.

Now then - this week's winners!

Every week, you have the chance to win EDS tokens for commenting. Last week we had comments from @gillianpearce @ericburgoyne @bearmol @justclickindiva @jfang003, @riandeuk, @dagger212, @britandi, @preparedwombat and @phoenixwren.

Okay, everyone who commented last week went into the WheelofNames and the winners is: @gillianpearce - yay!

Interesting Fact

This is the second time that @gillianpearce has won both EDS tokens in a single week!

- Congratulations!

Thank you for taking part in Saturday Savers Club, everyone!

What's been happening in your world this week? anything exciting or fun? Tell us in the comments - you could win some EDS tokens 😁.

More about EDS tokens

EDS tokens are a low-risk income token, ideal for people who want to save. There were only 20,000 originally and they were all sold at 1 Hive each, with guaranteed earnings of 12% each year. You can now acquire EDS tokens through the EDS Miner token.

Earnings come from powering up and leasing out the Hive that came from selling the tokens, plus earnings from posts and comments each week. EDS pays out every Monday evening. Last week the pay out was equivalent to 24%.

666 😱 EDS Miner tokens left.

Back to business ...

We're going to be here every Saturday through the year growing a little savings honey pot, if you have plans for saving or getting to a different place this time next year - maybe $5 Hive by the end of the year 🤑?

Whatever it is, stick with Susie Saver through the year and we'll get there. Along the way, we'll share lots of tips and tricks for saving and how to get the knack of making your money work for you and not the other way round.

Let's Get Started

We're using the 365 Penny A Day Challenge framework for the Saturday Savers Club. We're aiming to save £667 worth of pennies by the end of the year.

Okay, let's check in ...

1. Check Progress

Each week, we're going to check in through this post and see where we are up to. Our target for today, 3 July, was 12.67p. Next week, we'll be saving 13.16p and by Saturday we'll have saved 182.23p! (Look at those 100s stacking) 😁.

Each week, I'll be buying Hive for @susie-saver's account with the pennies we've saved.

Here's this week's results - 12.67p buys 34.80 Hive.
Nearly 460 Hive saved in 27 weeks (385 Hive powered up, the remainder invested in EDS and EDSM)! Plus we're earning 3.22% inflation on powered up Hive, 24% on EDS tokens and a little on curating!

@susie-saver has powered this week's savings; she's also been voting following a curation trail, bringing her account to nearly 350HP. She's aiming for 530HP and is 73% of the way there. What's your goal?

She's aiming to up her game with posting rewards, too. Finally, she has a new phone to replace the one that fell in the mop bucket. It's fully loaded and charged, @actifit is activated, all that remains to do is the moving and posting.

How much did you save this week? Did you meet your target? Or did you save even more?

Being accountable to another person or a group is a great way to motivate yourself to save (or anything you want to achieve). Of course, you need the right kind of people around you - ones that think what you're trying to do is worth doing ... or at least fun 😁.

Sign up here with us to start your savings journey:

  • just leave a comment below if you want to join the challenge.
  • follow @eddie-earner so you never miss a post (Eddie has lots of ideas about how to make money - he's the earner, I'm the saver - you'll like his posts).
  • share this post if you think your followers might be interested.

2. The Golden Pig Tip

Every week, we're going to share a Golden Pig Tip for saving. By the time you've tried them all you'll have £670 saved.

This Week's Golden Pig Tip

Here's this week's Golden Pig Tip:

Check out your relationship with money - are you fearful of it and afraid of opening those envelopes? do you get angry when you overspend or have an unexpected expense? are you hoarding like there's no tomorrow and refusing to benefit from your savings? Time to re-configure your emotions! One way to start is to write down where you think those emotions come from and check whether they are helping or harming you today.

Shall We Have a No Buy Month?

Last week, I asked whether we should have a no-buy month as one of our challenges and some people asked what a no-buy month is. Let me see if I can explain:

A no buy month (or any period of time) is when you set specific rules for what you are and are not going to buy. You can buy food and other essentials (all your household and travel expenses, for example) and you can replace anything that gets broken or wears out.

Beyond that, you set your personal rules. It could be not buying take-outs or alcohol (or books), or restricting the number of times you buy coffee or meet friends for a meal (or go to the cinema or theatre or bowling).

Of course, anything you don't spend that month goes into your savings .

An important part of a no buy month is accountability. So if we had a no-buy month as a challenge, we would ask everyone to post about their no-buy month at the beginning - what they plan to do - and then to post again at the end of the month about what happened.

Like everything about developing habits, it's a journey, so it isn't about being perfect immediately and getting it right first time. It is about setting a goal and then seeing what you learned about trying to achieve it.

We could do it in stages - say August, have a no-buy day (or day a week); September, have a no buy week, then October, the biggie, a no-buy month.

What do you think Saturday Savers? 😍

PS Chance to win extra tokens this week if you name the two interesting facts in this post hehe.

And today is always a good day to start saving - you can start on Day 1 or make up the first twenty-seven weeks to catch up with @susie-saver. Or join our 100 day savings backwards challenge (ends 31 July 2021).

That's it for this week. Hope you've enjoyed it and look forward to seeing you next Saturday with progress so far and our next Golden Pig tip.

Hello @eddie-earner and @shanibeer. Here is my Week 27 Saturday Savers Club progress report:

https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@justclickindiva/week-27-entering-the-second-half-of-my-year-end-savings-goal-or-saturday-savers-club

Also, congratulations to @gillianpearce on your win in the WheelOfNames. How lucky to have won both places for the 2nd time.

Congratulations to all participants in the Saturday Savers Club. If you are a member and save in any capacity, then you are definitely on the winning track.

On the 2 initiatives proposed:

  1. August HivePud support for a smaller account. I think this is an awesome idea. I hope a Hive member takes advantage of this offer.

  2. No Buy Month - As I already reiterated, I think this is a fabulous savings idea. I took a challenge upon myself such as this last year. I was so successful that I extended it into the next month. My challenge to myself was to eliminate paper towels. Instead, I purchased a 100-bundle of kitchen towels. Reaching for a paper towel has become automatic in households. I'm a baby boomer. I lived during a time when paper towels were not a staple in our home. So I knew I could undo my years of learning to depend on them.

Have a good rest of your weekend.

I'm a baby boomer. I lived during a time when paper towels were not a staple in our home

So true - we grew up without these things! I have loads of old glass clothes and flannels that I keep handy for spills and things.

I enjoyed reading @phoenixwren's grandma post and the adage "use it up, wear it out, make do or do without". Somewhere else I read sbout someone saving to buy "a good winter coat". I quite like that planning and then the satisfction and pleasure when you finally get it.

Yes, the adage I've heard before too. I feel we lived in the "real times". Knowing what to do and how to go about accomplishing what we wanted seems so clear and straightforward. Maybe the world was less complicated with fewer choices.

Maybe the world was less complicated with fewer choices.

I think you may be right.

I do use some paper towels but not a lot; I mostly use them for icky things that I wouldn't want to get in my washing machine - cleaning the litter box, cat barf off the floor, etc. 😂 So a roll usually lasts me two or three months? Or so?
But I also have a small stack of older towels that I actually inherited from an aunt that I use for spills and the like too. And my bath mat. 🙃

No-buy month actually for me worked pretty good when I want to curtail my drinking back several years ago. Instead of deciding not to drink, I chose not to buy, so if I went to a friends house and that friend offered me a beer I did not feel bad or strange in anyway in accepting the beer, because I was not quitting drinking, I just quit buying beer for that month.

It is a shame I could not do the same with smoking back then, far to much of an ingrained habit for me.

Sounds like no-buy worked well for you.
Smoking is a hard challenge to tackle, the average attempts to give up are about 37, I read the other day. Not easy to do at all.

Congratulations to this week's winners. I see Susie is slowly growing her HP. At 73% you'll get to 530HP soon enough.

Hello @bearmol, how's your week been? 😍
I was trying to work out how quickly @susie-saver will make it to 530HP, but impossible to calculate given the variability of the price of Hive 😆! I'm guessing another four or five weeks ... actually I could make that next week's fun challenge! I get so many ideas fro mthe interaction with commenters 🙂

I couldn’t agree with you more. I learn so much from being here and interacting with members. Indeed no man is an island 🌴. I’m guessing you’ll get there in a few weeks.I wonder who will get there first. I’m now at 445HP so maybe we’ll get to 530HP around the same time.

Thank for you for the SPI, LBI and CL tokens. I am kind of surprised that only 2 people participated though.

The no buy month is an interesting topic and I wouldn't mind trying one.

Some people are powering up their rewards 100% so they have no liquid hive for HPUD - one of the reasons Saturday Savers Club is going to offer monthly sponsorship. Which would be a good month for you to have a no-buy month?

I take my rewards as half HP and half HBD as I want to invest partially into HE tokens so I tend to have enough to power up each HPUD.

Which would be a good month for you to have a no-buy month?

I am personally fine with any month besides maybe November to January. For other people, I was thinking that it would be better around April or May. The summer is quite tough as people want to travel and be on break. Then the holiday season of December to Jan is going to be tough for people too. In April or May, I don't think there is much going on.

Double-double trouble to the winner, congrats that's great!

Love the Golden Pig tip of the week, to me I'm definitely not afraid to dive and and manage everything about the financial situation. If anything I sometimes have to reflect and see where I'm at and not saving TOO much. I know we like to aim to save and stack and trust me I like that.

But at times you need to ask yourself if you're enjoying life right now and not focusing too much on the future. I want to work towards a bright future financially but nobody knows how long your future will be, so make sure you have enough to spend and enjoy life now, this is possible without lifestyle inflation and without sacrificing savings goals!

Good initiative on the HPUD to help small accounts, I'm sure that could help people out :-)

if you're enjoying life right now

So true! And, when you're saving for that specific thing, spending the money on it when you get there!

I was thinking about that with regard to the ratios we were talking about previously like 50/30/20 - the 30 is for the quality of life things. I guess it varies for everyone, and what stage of life you're at.

Yeah that's very personal and relative to conditions. Buying something you've saved for gives so much more satisfaction most of the time. Beats impulse spending easily :-)

Beats impulse spending easily

I agree 😁

wow 2 wins in one week congrats! ZI have been saving again for next months club life buy in which is coming along great. As for the no buy month I am already doing that right now as our power bill is going nuts with the heat wave we are in here. The AC has not been off for the last 2 weeks and they are saying the heat wave is with us for at least another week or two.
The only good news about that is that our balcony garden is growing like crazy, we now have patio tomatoes that should be ready in about 2 weeks, and te other tomatoes are flowering like crazy. Our pepper plant is loaded with flowers and the strawberries are flowering for the next round of strawberries. Have a great week all, and to all Americans Happy fourth to you and yours

We're certainly getting a lot of weather around the globe, hard to be in a no-buy month by force of cirumstance rather than choice. The garden sounds fabulous, though, and you were lucky with the patio tomatoes. Here's this month's garden journal challenge if you want to join in. Hot off the press 😁

Congrats to the winners!

Most months are no-buy months for me, beyond the bare essentials, because poverty. I just don't have the option for fun stuff generally. Related to the "relationship with money" tip, when I do get a windfall, like when we got a stimulus check, my first impulse is to stock up on cat food, because that is the thing I stress most about and the thing that makes me feel most secure, when I have a cupboard full of cat food.

when I have a cupboard full

I was like this when I was younger, but with everything, not just cat food. It was when I came back with another load of (mainly food, it has to be said) shopping and there wasn't room for it in the larder, because the larder was already stuffed to the gunnels, I realised I needed to recalibrate. Just like you, though, I need to know there's enough in the cupboard, and I would be like that about pet food if I had pets and I was like it about children when they were at home.

The problem is that I'm usually short and hand to mouth and not sure where the next load is going to come from. I have maybe a week of cat food and that's with a case having just arrived in the mail yesterday. I have less than a dollar in my bank account. That's the norm for me.
So to have a full cupboard of cat food is super rare and a weight off my shoulders.

I understand 😍

Okay lemme try this now: !ENGAGE 20

I'm not sure it's working - maybe HF, maybe holidays 🤷‍♀

That's awesome @shanibeer, just as you are 😊😄👍
Have a nice day!!!

This is the second time that @gillianpearce has won both EDS tokens in a single week!

Thanks so much! It seems to be all or nothing for me. 😂

I'm not sure what's happening with my bitcoin purchase this week as I've been away on retreat. I won't be checking what's going on until next week probably.

One thing I do remember is I finally got a Binance account set up (after a struggle to get the photographs match) and a couple of limit orders placed before the whole UK ban thing hit. 😂

I'll be checking into that more next week too.

Thanks again for the tokens.

Wishing you all a fun and peaceful week! 💙

It seems to be all or nothing for me. 😂

My very thoughts! Congratulations, though, it's always nice to get a windfall.
Be interesting to hear about your experience with Binance, when you're ready 😍.

I'll let you know how it goes. So far, none of my limit orders have been filled because of the rise in prices so there's nothing to report. 😊
