A few days ago I got the chance to be introduced to a decentralized search engine, powered by blockchain technology, by @taskmaster4450le.
When it comes to searching, we only know one thing, and that's Google. The habit has even changed our vocabulary. How many times we hear people saying Google it! While I understand why people are associating the giant's name with the action itself, we shouldn't do it as it doesn't deserve such fame.
The decentralized search engine, powered by blockchain technology I've been introduced to is called Presearch and before I tell you more about it, let me show you what's the difference between Google and Presearch.
Yesterday, when Leofinance was down, @revisesociology was asking on Discord what's the link the Leopedia, as he couldn't find it and Google doesn't find it either using 'leopedia' as keyword.
Google vs Decentralized Search Engine
Let's do an experiment. Try to run a Google search using 'leopedia' as keyword. You'll see Leopedia.io is on the second page, ranking 18. The first 17 results that Google serves you have something to do (more or less) with Leopedia, which is a business in India, but we're not interested in that, we want Leopedia.io.
Obviously if you use Leopedia.io as keyword, you get the page as first result but then again, we're not searching through Google because we don't have anything better to do, but because we can't remember the .io at the end, right?
Now let's try a search through Presearch, using the same keyword, leopedia.
Voilà! Leopedia.io is on the first page ranking 8th among the organic results.
For those of you who are new to this, Google has been accused repeatedly of manipulating the algorithm. As a simple user, it may be frustrating not to find what you want because the results returned are manipulated based on certain interests. Now try to imagine what it means for your business when your webpage ranking in search is intentionally manipulated and you're suffering financial setbacks due to that. It's a totally different thing that can actually ruin your business.
What Is Presearch?
It's a search extension (add-on) for Chrome/Brave and Firefox, very easy to set up. It has a user friendly interface that allows you choose the background color you like, blue being the default one.
In this video you can see Colin Pape, the founder of Presearch, explaining how Presearch works, differences between other search engines, benefits, future plans, etc.
Why Use Presearch
There are plenty of reasons to use Presearch for:
- it is decentralized,
- runs on node servers operated by Presearch community members,
- it does not track you or store your searches,
- queries are handled by a decentralized network of node servers processing anonymized queries,
- you earn Presearch reward tokens when you search, when you operate a node, and when you refer others to join Presearch.
There's a market for Pre tokens and this is how the market looks like today. You can buy and/or sell Pre tokens, or use it for keyword staking.
Conclusions
I've been testing this cool toy for two days now and the more I use it, the more I like it.
We are talking about decentralization day in day out so it's time to opt for decentralized search engines as well.

That's cool, how did you learn about Presearch? Just curious, I've been shilling them on here for years 🤣
I followed them years ago too. Accumulated a ton of tokens but then they froze my account. I recently, within the last 6 months opened up another one.
It is a great idea, something that most need to get involved with. The team seems strong and willing to push the bounds of breaking the stranglehold that Google has.
Like most projects in this space, it is worth supporting to just try and free people from the centralized entities.

I just staked my first Keyword which was awesome. I'll be making a post about it this week!
Also does Leo have a referral link like PeakD I can use? I was looking for one for my account but I don't seem to find one. Curious as to how they onboard, I know it's been talked about but I don't have as much of a pulse on the Leo ecosystem as you do.
Sorry to hear about them freezing your account. I don't mean to pry but what was the reason? I'd like to learn as much as I can, to avoid unwanted mistakes. You don't have to answer if you don't feel like it.

Love to see more people getting into Presearch! I would like to say that I have exposed it to people on here but I don't think my reach is wide enough lol. I got into that early here on Hive so I'm pretty good with the token earnings! I don't have access to buy the tokens since I live in the US and they only host their token on foreign exchanges but that's okay. Up to 2100 tokens from searching and referrals!
I haven't looked into the buying options yet as my primary goal is to use it, earning comes second, so that's something to look up in the future.
I love the structure and the idea behind it, I believe it has a great future.
About spreading the news, you know how it is, people come and go, so every now and then someone posts about it and it's news again :)
Let's hope more people will join soon :)

Yeah I think especially now with all of the crazy censorship from the big tech scumbags, more people will be looking for different options. I know my family has asked me! I've told them about it but doubt they signed up lol.
I just staked my first Keyword a few minutes ago! I'll be posting about that and I have plans to stake another. Just need to get a little bit more information before I stake it but was glad to see that there are quite a bit of words staked already!
That is a cool option but I guess you need some stake, I mean a few thousands or even more to make a difference. I'd like to know more about how it goes, if possible. You can tag me when you do the post, so i don't miss it :)
I'm still getting used to it as my first instinct is still to go to Google as that's what we've been using for ages, but I'm getting there :) Old habits die hard, isn't it?

I don't think that for every search you do they give you 1 Presearch token, I remind you that I bravely incentivize the same and in the end the profits that each user generates for seeing their ads are very low, "bread for today, hunger for tomorrow"
You earn .25 PRE tokens per search used through their DSearch engine. If you use Google or any other engine aside from DSearch you earn nothing. It's a way to show you that you should be using their platform, not others.
What is the solution you offer?
It depends a lot on user preferences, for my part I am still in university and sometimes I look for scientific texts and I need specific search engines, not general search engines. Also, no search accounts on any content are made up to date, "you should know the preferences of the users"
It's your choice, you can use whatever search engine you want.
