Someone asked me about the word "HODL" and I remembered when it first suddenly started being used back in 2013. A Bitcointalk member and self-confessed "bad trader" by the name of GameKyuubi, was commiserating about an errant girlfriend and the Bitcoin price crashing.
He was juuuust a little tipsy...
The price, which had begun the month at $955, had fallen to $522 by the time our favorite HODLER was about to set out on his night of merriment. Even the bottle of whiskey he cradled was spelled wrong, much to his amusement.
After quaffing said whiskey, he had some shall we say, difficulty playing Mr. Keyboard. This resulted in him misspelling "HOLD" twice, at which point he just said to hell with it and plowed ahead. Not realizing he was about to become a part of crypto history, our here no doubt clambered into bed to sleep it off. But when he awoke...
So THAT, dear friends is where our favorite Hive word cam from and for those of you who want to view a blast from the past, you can see the original message from December, 18, 2013 titled "I AM HODLING" Ain't history grand?
Oh, and I'll end with a question: Are you "HODLING"?

Where is HIVE!! Well its at #9. The sleeper was THETA. I had bought a bag about 18 months ago and traded most of my STEEM for it after the HIVE hard fork. Yes I wish I had bought more back then but I still stack more THETA occasionally and stake it on gpool.io to earn tfuel.

Never heard of THETA. I do like that fact that I'm earning BAT just for doing what I normally do online. But I have a feeling that one day we'll be looking back at the quaint old days when the price of HIVE was under $10, wishing we had stacked even more! :)

Theta is very interesting, Take a peek at thetatoken.org It has a payment layer called tfuel. Theta had some major players as early investors, Google being one. Note I have no love for Google.
BAT has an economic model that I may wish it would happen more that it has a chance to happen. Taking Facebook and google out of the advertising business would make me very happy. As such I bagged up a few years ago and at this time I have them all sitting in Celsius earning 3.51%.
My focus now is on deploying 120 Helium hotspot miners in the U.S., Indonesia and Thailand. Orders are in and hotspots are in delivery.
As an investor I most likely wont put more fiat in to HIVE.... with the exception of a crypto educational development that I will use HIVE as a part of. I would like to see HIVE sustain above $10. It is obvious that when HIVE (then STEEM) went through the 2018 bear market, that many lost interest when the rewards fell.
Just today I was doing some research on some of the communities from the 2017/18 time frame and so many have just faded away. These were grass roots communities most in developing countries. I also think some could be user interface, while its better now it still has a ways to go.

yeah, THETA has an integrated patreon clone, integrated twitter clone, and integrated twitch clone and integrated youtube clone and major companies like NEFLIX, HULU, and TUBI can use it as a back-end replacement for AWS (amazon web services).
and the streams and video playback is way faster than odysee/lbry and it has a native crypto token and it is 100% decentralized

It is a nice thing to know. I always thought it was "Hold on for dear life" or something like that. Well its not like it matters since everyone knows its just not selling out.

I think he was holding on to that drink as well! I remember when this was blowing up online and was glad to see more awareness of crypto filtering down to the masses. We've come a long way since then! :)

Some of the best stories start with whiskey! It doesn't surprise me that this one does as well. Very interesting stuff. I had heard bits and pieces of the tale over the years, but never the full thing. Thanks for sharing this!

I wasn't on bitcointalk back then, but I am on it now. I haven't logged on in quite some time though. Back when I started the barrier to entry was pretty high on that platform and people were not very forgiving.
