Splitting Attention: The Learning Curve

in LeoFinance3 years ago (edited)

Doing ten things at once

I am used to doing a lot of things at one time, which has been the case so far on these platforms. There was a learning curve to get money transferred into the hive.blog, then more as I was urged to get involved with Leo.

I have to take a moment to call attention to the welcoming committee. It looks like many of them are big on leofinance.io. They all stepped up to answer my questions on how to get money into Leo - info on the token was not on the standard crypto sites like coinmarketcap or coingecko. Thanks to all.

I love how the Dex is accessible using the same keys. The volume is not what I had expected, but I am getgting as much Leo as I can.

Initial hunch

I had eluded to one of my assets being up and how I had planned to get in as I saw Hive hitting the low teens. My timing had paid off. Just the dollar value of my recent Hive purchases are in the money to the tune of nearly four thousand dollars.

Earnings from simply voting on articles has made 200 Hive. I am not sure if that gets better as you go on, but it looks promising.

Then, I believe, there will be rewards for voting on people inside the Leo Finance platform. I am just starting to stake Leo here. Acquiring any quantity of it is slow going.

Investing

Some had commented on my trading experience. It may not be what you think. I am serious about holding my own keys, assets, physical metals, etc. I have done some trading, not much, on exchanges in order to get my hands on the next winner. I keep my exposure to those places to a minimum.

I started investing here with some bitcoin I had laying around. I don't like bitcoin because of the fees one has to pay in order to be seen by the network. That is a story for another time.

The ongoing investment is coming from something I had acquired back in 2013. Ripple was a place where people could trade or even create assets. After a year, it turned out to be really useless, but I had purchased $20 worth of the coin needed to pay transaction fees on the platform. Ripple, it was called. (XRP)

I tried my private keys about three years ago when I saw it getting attention in the news again. The site did not let me in but the private key worked. What had cost me $20 was worth many thousands. I was selling off my XRP back then, and then it tanked below twenty cents. I stopped selling and the wallet has sat for years. That is until now. Here is where I recently took profits on my XRP (in order to put it into Hive).

My last article mentions that Hive was a steal at eleven cents. I bought and continued to buy at eleven and twelve cents, pausing now as it rises.

I am not sure how much this helps any of you. I cannot promise that I will stop to write about all ideas that come to me. Opportunities come and some I act on and others I mull over for a while. Hive took a couple months before I invested. I have a thought process I go through as I set up any buy or sale. I am not keeping things to myself but I am not sure if I will write about them as they happen. I will certainly try to let you all know what opportunities I see for making money. It could be just a comment.

I am always searching for forked coins, then I check if I have any. If you hold the keys, always check if there your coin has forked. If so, whatever you had when the fork occurred, is still there to be claimed.

I think that is all I have for tonight. Very happy to be aboard with Leo.

Great to have you. I love a fork, particularly when both chains go on to do good things.
I have a heap of Blurt out there, but I have a personal policy of not dumping for at least 12 months.

Welcome to the leo community. Hopefully, you'll enjoy your time with us.

It was good hearing that investment in ripple pay off. I'm always happy to see people do well, it's inspiring and proof that anyone else can do the same! :)

Nice story - great to have you on-board! Together we can make this place go wildly abundant!

Glad that you finally made the jump with us! It honestly took me about 4 months to do it as well and I missed out on a fair amount of good action I could have had but that’s the nature of being human.

One thing I want to tell you about if you haven’t read yet is that in order to take out your staked tokens, it’s currently a 13 week power down period here on hive. There’s discussion about changing that but it’s been happening for a long time. If you are looking to cash out anything just keep that in mind. Some of the investors that are on here do a substantial amount of voting which is great but they do take some earnings out here and there. Nothing wrong with it if you spent the money.

Also just wanted to thank you for investing in the project! A lot of us find the price to definitely be a steal but can’t afford to make large investments so it’s nice to see those that do. We appreciate it!

Another way you can earn passive income if you’re going on vacation or just want a break from voting is you can delegate to accounts and they give you a daily payment for it. You can find that info at DLease, I think it’s DLease.IO if I’m not mistaken. It’s helpful if you’ve got a lot going on and can’t dedicate time to keep your voting up.

There’s also curation trails but that’s a bit more involved. Let me know if you want to learn about that one!

Welcome!

I think you may have bought into Hive at a good time, I can't see it going much lower!

If it goes down, I will certainly buy more. No matter what, I seem to be making at least a thousand hive per month just on voting, which is a steady income just for reading things would have liked to read anyway. Too early to tell how much Leo will fall in my pocket as of yet. Thanks for the welcome.

You can certainly make a decent return on curation if you've got over 100K Hive powered up, it'll be even better once we get rid of the 5 minute curation window!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I know nothing about any curation window. I just vote when I am done reading. It is a wonder I am making anything outside of it, well I do not know where the window is. I do have a lot to learn.

It is a bit complex - on Hive, the earlier you vote the more of a curation return you get, but there's a penalty if you vote within 5 minutes - a certain percentage of your curation return gets sent back to the 'rewards pool' You still earn curation if you're voting later, but you're also gifting higher curation returns to anyone who voted before you.

The theory is it encourages people to discover good quality content.

It can make quite a different. If I vote someone with say 100 VP at 6 minutes and I'm the first person, then several hundred HPs worth of VP piles in after me, I can get a return of 300% on my vote (more is possible) - if I vote with the same weight at day 3 on a post that's already got say a $20 pay-out, I'll get a 15% return on my vote.

On LEO none of that counts - you just get a flat return whenever you vote (within the 7 day window) and whoever you vote. So I'll always make around 2 LEO per full vote with my stake.

A nice trick is to use two seperate accounts for Hive and LEO - you'll notice I've got all my leo power loaded to revise.leo with only around 20 HP (enough to make it work) - all my HP is on revisesociology.

That's because of the different curation returns. I estimate I make around $50 extra a month doing this, probably more.

Great timing and foresight securing profits from that xrp pump and bringing it over to Hive & LEO! All this development in the 4th quarter will have the platform in a great position come 2021.

I may be doing it again as they are nearing the same levels.

Getting the dip at Leo myself. It's one of the most active communities within Hive, upvoting the same posts earns you both Leo and Hive, and it's just starting to let its value known.

I bought some XRP months ago and sold it off as a loss. The only thing I regret was not putting my effort and money more on the blockchain that preceded Hive before the hard fork. Still waiting for my Leo posts to payout so I can finally staked some Leo for myself thanks to the supportive community.
