Functionality of Web3 social dApps built on Hive, shows Twitter to be the dated, untrustworthy tech that it is.
When I see the corporate pushback to granting users the ability to edit their Tweets sometime in the future, I can’t help but laugh.
Why is everyone making it out to be such a big deal when the tech behind it all makes the argument completely mute?
The fact of the matter remains that due to its centralised Web2 properties, Twitter Inc not only owns the account that you’re tweeting from, but they own the entire network itself.
That’s right, they reserve the right to amplify, censor or delete whatever message they see as right or wrong.
For whatever reason they think aligns with society’s mood of the day.
So I ask the question…
What is the big deal about letting their pleb users edit old tweets?
It just seems to me that people are getting worked up over something that the entire Web2 design of Twitter makes completely redundant.
Twitter Inc will tell you that they represent moments in history.
A snapshot in time that should never be changed.
Oh, unless Twitter itself deems something no longer socially acceptable.
By allowing you to edit Tweets, absolutely nothing changes.
Twitter Inc will always be in control of the ENTIRE platform and every account running on top of it.
Whether you’ve edited or not, that message can be changed or removed by a third party at any time.
So arguing that users editing old tweets will somehow ruin the sanctity of the platform is therefore not only makes no sense, it’s actually laughable.

Hive fixes so many things these days that it's going to be funny when people finally discover it.
And btw, I didn't know that Ecency allows you to see the edit history of a post. That's very cool!

In terms of how Hive content is displayed by front-ends, I really think Ecency is leading the way.
Like you said, the way Ecency allows you to view the edit history is great.
Not to mention the way they display up and downvotes as an aggregate, rather than outwardly displaying posts with 100 broken hearts simply because the Hive elite decided to smash them with a downvote trail that means nothing.

Twitter is a centralised version of Hive.
My argument is that centralised services arguing for or against an edit button is completely redundant because it can just be bypassed by the platform owner.
If Twitter Inc can just edit/delete your Tweet, then who cares if you edit things?
The only thing that matters in the end is the decentralisation of the underlying network that the social application is built on.
If the network is not decentralised, then it can be controlled by a single actor and content can be edited/deleted at their will.
We see examples of this happening by Twitter and in the crypto world by Steemit.
Currently Hive is the ONLY truly decentralised network that can cater for censorship-resistant decentralised social media dApps.

Nice! I didn't know Ecency has an edits viewer. There used to be a tool which had that, but I forgot which it was. Good to see Ecency has it.
The other front-ends could learn a lot from how Ecency displays content.
Edits and how the aggregate up/down votes to hide those scammy looking broken hearts are two perfect examples.

This is so true, it's like borrowing a friend's car and changing the paint job and rims like it belongs to you. Whenever he comes back for his car he would possess everything including your modifications.
I really love that we have an immutable network in Hive and in time we would be a force to reckon with as the real freedom of speech and ownership of content is presently on Hive.

Yeah, that is pretty silly. If it is bad enough once it is out there someone will screenshot it and it doesn't matter how much you really edit it anyway. I am looking forward to Project Blank when it finally drops. I think Leo has a good chance of doing things right.

Remember Hive does already have dBuzz which has all the censorship-resistant properties of Hive.
But the fact they make each 'buzz' a post means that the Hive elite hate short-form content getting hit by autovoters.

I don't use dbuzz for that reason. I think project blank is going to have a different mechanic. It sounds like posts won't show up on your main feed.

Unfortunately the masses are still on Web2 platforms like Twitter.
For this reason, it's worth still having a presence there, even if you're only using it to try and onboard people to eventually become followers of your Web3 account.

I think the edit option on Twitter does not exists becuase the team dont want to have that possibility because technical it is very easy to implement.
Hive fixes almost every problem that exists on Web2 but for many people it is complicate to understand how the things works here.

Nobody can guarantee freedom of speech like a Web3 Hive account can.
