Zed Run Digital Horse Racing uses Polygon (MATIC)

Zed Run Digital Horse Racing now runs on the Polygon (MATIC) network.

As somewhat of a horse racing gambling degenerate in a past life, I’ve been extremely bullish on Zed Run Digital Horse Racing since launch.

Remember, Zed Run is a digital horse racing platform that allows you to breed, race and trade horses as Ethereum based NFTs.

The biggest issue facing the platform has always been the extremely high gas fees that investors are forced to pay on Ethereum.

But thanks to Zed Run’s move to use the Polygon (MATIC) network, the game has gone to new heights.

Yes, Zed Run Digital Horse Racing now uses Polygon (MATIC).

Zed Run Uses MATIC

Zed Run has now fully integrated with the Polygon (MATIC) network.

This was done in order to reduce gas fees when using the platform and speed up transactions.

Ultimately, the switch to use MATIC, has seen the user experience on Zed Run dramatically improve.

So just what is Polygon (MATIC)?

Polygon (MATIC) is a layer-two (L2) scaling solution for Ethereum-compatible blockchain networks.

Using a sidechain on L2, Polygon is designed to enable cheaper, faster and equally secure off-chain Ethereum transactions.

Polygon's ultimate goal is to build a multi-layer sidechain ecosystem, that is fully interconnected.

Something that they see as the internet of Ethereum blockchains.

When it comes to interacting with Zed Run, the switch to Polygon significantly lowers fees and improves transaction speeds on all racing contracts.

How does Zed Run take advantage of Polygon (MATIC)?

Zed Run takes full advantage of Polygon by implementing what they refer to as an escrow type contract on the Mainnet.

When you transfer ETH tokens from Zed Run to Polygon, they’re placed in escrow so that balances can be mirrored in MATIC.

Don’t worry, your balance will always remain exactly the same as it was if it was being reflected in ETH.

You’re now just taking advantage of the power of a layer-2 network’s ability to avoid getting bogged down in a fog of main chain transactions.

When transferring ETH to Zed Run, the game represents it as your ZED Balance.

This is simply an in-game pricing mechanism linked to the value of ETH.

You are never buying MATIC tokens or have to worry about the price of MATIC when using Zed Run.

Your Zed Run digital horse racing NFTs will always still be valued in ETH.

Final thoughts on Zed Run using Polygon (MATIC)

The Ethereum blockchain is a massive double-edged sword.

It’s obviously the premier blockchain with smart contract capabilities, but at the same time, it’s so inefficient and expensive.

As long as the top NFT based games such as Zed Run continue to persist with using Ethereum, layer-2 solutions such as Polygon will be a saviour.

Other than moving away from Ethereum, the team had no other option and in my opinion, certainly made the best choice available.

Best of probabilities to you.

I'll have to give it a crack. I always get worried about match fixing and how can I trust a computer program to be honest of the person running it.

But then again those same issues persist in real life anyway.

Have you seen those virtual horse racing screens inside TABs?

They're nothing more than rigged pokies which pay out only a certain percentage of the bets they take in.

Yet people lap them up because of how easy they are to bet on.

Now instead of these rigged machines benefiting only the TAB, picture screens showing a decentralised network of Zed Run races.

Fair races because you can trust the code within a smart contract a lot more than you can trust a bookmaker.

We're still nowhere near that stage, but eventually, people will see the light of decentralisation and it will be the only option.

Exciting :)

Thats a good point and there is the whole pokies venues which are all electrified and computerised.

Indeed, good post about this game. But if I remember the $ value needed to get into that game was so high that fees were less important for their users. Probably the reason why they took so long.

Do you need to transfer any of your asset to Polygon if you were on Ethereum network? If you do not buy MATIC therefore the fees paid in MATIC are taken from your ETH balance ?

Interesting post nevertheless.

I will publish today on Immutable X (completely separate ETH L2 used by Gods Unchained and upcoming games). What are your thoughts on this type of solutions?

Cheers 🥂

Yeah, we all thought Axie Infinity was expensive to get started, but Zed Run is next level again.

You have to spend a TON on the premium horses to really make money, which for rich players means the gas fees aren't an issue anyway.

Eventually, I'm sure the plan would be to make the game more accessible for smaller investors, which would make using ETH for transactions untenable.

Using a layer-2 solution such as Polygon would allow this to happen when they're ready.

I just had a look at your latest post on the route Gods Unchained is taking to solve the issue of high gas fees and it's really interesting to compare the two.

The thing I find most fascinating is that both are persisting with Ethereum.

I have had so many conversations in the past where people have asked my opinion on Ethereum and I've always said that while they have the first-mover advantage now, the network is just never going to scale.

With Layer-2 solutions such as the two we've each featured, this becomes less of an issue and will only encourage dApps to run on Ethereum.

Ethereum is still so far ahead in the race that it's ridiculous.

I have never been interested in horse racing (I guess it's not really a thing in Brazil) but this is a very interesting concept!

I'll check it out because it really got me curious to know more

The horse racing industry is huge in Australia.

During Covid for example, while every professional sports league has at least taken a break, racing has always continued.

The revenues that the highly regulated gambling industry generates for the government are just too high to let slip.

As a regular consumer, no matter where you go, you literally can't escape it.

But an open, decentralised and most importantly fair (it's in the code!) virtual horse racing network such as Zed Run, could be a huge disrupter.

Bad for the easy revenues that bookmakers and governments are receiving right now.

But VERY good for regular punters and investors.

I'm really excited to see what Zed Run will do.
