Are you new to Splinterlands and searching for some advice, then you found the correct series! In this Beginner’s Guide Series, we are discussing things that new players of Splinterlands should know or try to learn. In this specific episode we will take a look at one of my new favorites from the Riftwatcher set. I am talking about Corsair Bosun! In general, I am a big fan of the life Splinter. While it is not the best one to use in terms of practicality, I think that quality of monsters is just insane. This is why we will discuss my new favorite card as well as cards that I am preferring to use in combination with it. Last but not least we will take a look at an example battle. With that being said, if this article motivated you to start playing this amazing game, then feel free to join the fun over the following link:

Corsair Bosun

First of all, let’s talk about the Corsair himself. Why is he one of my favorite cards so far? Well, first of all, he is a great card in big mana battles! With 10 mana costs he brings a lot of positives. Because the Life Splinter is very Ranged Attacking heavy at the moment, it is nice to have a great Melee monster. The best part about this card is that it has the Ranged Ability which allows him to attack from the second position. This means that we actually get to have two Melee monsters who are not completely wasted which also means that we have at least two cards that need to die until our real damage dealers are being affected.

On top of that, this card has the Reflection Shield Ability which means that this card does not take any damage from Thorns, Blast, Magi Reflect or Return Fire. This is great as this card is in the second position and would usually get blasted every time there is an Explosion card attacking our tank. With this being said, this card is actually very strong in the Explosive Ruleset because it can absorb most of the Blast Damage. With 4 Melee Attack and 3 speed, this card is also not the worst attacker. On top of that we are getting 5 armor and 6 health which could be a little bit more but it is only a Rare card to be fair.

Tank

As I mentioned before, we can have a second Melee attacker in our team that is then usually the tank. Here, the Life Splinter offers us several options. The most expensive and my most favorite one is Uriel the Purifier. Not only is he very strong and has great stats but on level two he is coming with the self-Heal Ability on top of his Flying Ability. With 6 Armor and 10 health, this card is a prototype of a tank! As second option we have the Shieldbearer who can shine with his Taunt Ability. He is on manawise in the middle of the three options but has great armor and health stat. For 8 mana he has probably the best price to effect ratio. Last but not least we have the Chaos Knight who is on the cheaper side for just 6 mana. He has the advantage of the Shield Ability but is very weak against magic attackers.

Ranged Demolition

In order to deal some damage we have the great opportunity to chose from great Ranged attackers in the Life Splinter. In the following we will discuss my most favorite Ranged attackers, that I like to chose from. Starting with the Silvershield Sheriff! With 3 Attack and the Snipe Ability, this card is actually not easy to underestimate. With the buff of plus one attack, this card can destroy any backline card in just a few turns and comes also with great speed and health. Granted, this card is costing us 9 mana, but for high level battles, this card is the exact fit!

Next up we have the Pelacor Arbalest. This card costs us 6 mana and has very terrible stats on the face of it. With 2 attack, 2 speed and 2 health, this card is not something I would want in my team. What turns this card around is its ability: Double Strike! With two times the attacks and therefore two times the damage, this card can deal up to 6 damage per turn with the summoner buff included. There is only one card that can beat this amount of damage and this is the Primatologist! Why? Because of its Explosion Ability. In theory we could deal 8 damage if we are able to hit a backline card with two minions next to it. In practice we are most likely to hit the tank which means that we are dealing around 6 damage as well. Nevertheless, if we combine the damage of all three cards we are ending up with 16 damage per turn (buffs included) which is pretty much insane!

Example Battle

But now, enough of the theory, let’s jump straight into an example battle. Here we can quickly see that the Reflection Shield is paying some dividends. On top of that we are utilizing the Repair effect of our Adelade that allows us to keep our monster to be alive a little bit longer and therefore allows us to deal more damage for a longer time. In the end we were able to win very comfortably against a very similar team that did not have the Corsair!

This is an excellent card with a very cool and unusual combination of abilities.
