General Information & Thoughts!

At first let’s put some general thoughts out of the way. The new Ability allows us to use one additional Gladiator Card in battle. This means that we are now finally able to use them outside of brawl if we choose to select one of the following summoners. On top of that, these summoners have a very similar ability like summoners from the Untamed set. The difference is that they are costing 6 mana instead of 3 which is basically the additional cost of the Gladius cards which are in general pretty strong.

Furthermore, these summoners are reward cards. This means that new players will have a greater chance of getting them and therefore being able to build a good deck. On the other hand, it will be more difficult to level them up because you can only get them by chance. I think that they can be played in high mana rulesets without a problem but when it comes to low mana battles, it is good to have other summoners as alternative. All in all I am excited to go for a hunt on these cards. I am excited to try them out and share some new strategies with them. With that being said, let’s take a look at the actual cards and possible Gladius Combinations!

Fire

We start off with Fire and the Eternan Brune. With the Ability of Deducting 2 armor form the enemies, it is actually very useful for the Fire Element. Because Fire Monsters have usually a good amount of attack and are being often stopped by armor, this card can actually be very useful in the future. In combination with the very cheap Gladius Card Orella Abadon, these two can make a deadly combo, especially if we are having a great tank to chose from! With the Bloodlust Ability, all Gladius Cards are gaining stats and this card has definitely the potential to Sneakely kill some cards.

Water

Net up we have the Pembrook Nymph for the Water Splinter. I must admit that this card could be one of my favorites in this set. With an additional health point, the buff is already pretty good and benefits many cards in the Water Splinter. In combination with Alva the Crusher we could have a very nice combo against Melee and Ranged attackers. Since she has the shield Ability, her damage taken is reduced and therefore, makes her a very good tank in the middle range battles.

Earth

While the Earth Summoner Lobb Lowland does not have the most outstanding Abiltiy, a little bit of Speed advantage is never too bad for a slow Splitner in general. Because Earth already has a pretty solid summoner in Obsidian I highly doubt that this card will see a lot of plays but maybe I am wrong since Earth has one of the best Gladius cards. With Quora Towershead we have a card with double attacking styles and additional Self-Heal. She also costs 10 mana but this combination would be used in high mana battles only I suppose.

Life

For the Life Splinter, I see the best combination between all summoners and Gladius Cards. An additional armor can be very effective, especially in this state of the Life Splinter. With several opportunities to repair this can be a very solid summoner. On top of that we can play Captain Katie who is predetermined to kill a lot of cards. With 3 mana attack and the Snipe ability, she is usually taking out back line cards that are not as strong. With every kill she will get stronger and can attack from the backline herself. All that is left is a Taunt card and this combo is almost unbeatable!

Death

The most badass looking card goes to Death. Like always, I should add, because the Death Splinter just looks incredible every time new cards are getting released. Octavia Shadowmeld looks incredible! Her Ability of nerfing the opponent and deducting one health is very similar to Thaddius Brood, so the main strategy would stay the same I suppose. In my personal deck, I would try to use Whistling Damon, not just because he is cheap but also somehow fits into the vibe of Octavia. With the Snipe Ability, hew will take out the backline cards out first and gain strength over the rounds!

Dragons

Last but not least, we have the Dragon Card Helios Matriarch. With additional Speed, the effect is very similar to the Earth Summoner. While Speed is becoming more important by the day, I think that the most benefit of this card is that we are able to use Dragon Cards. Furthermore, you are able to chose your strategy depending on the situation and also select the appropriate Gladius Card for any case. In general Dragon Cards are one of my favorites but there are certainly more favorable cards in this set.

Outlook

I must say that these cards make me want to play even more! I have to mention that these cards will not be able to be sold or bought in the beginning. This will have an effect on the market but I am not quite sure so far whether it will boost the prices or lower them. I guess we will see that over the course of the next few weeks. I will also take a deep dive for every Splinter and discuss the new reward cards in more detail over the coming 2 to 3 weeks, so stay tuned for that! 😊
