Story of Robin Hood of Hive

in LeoFinance2 years ago

A long, long time a go in a galaxy far, far away there was a community of people united in a common goal of bringing innovative technologies to the universe to free the people from the shackles of corporate greed and imperial control. Imperial forces could not compete with the innovation and vision these free people were bringing forward, and the Emperor decided to take them by force, subjugate the free community, and transfer all the innovation and technology to the imperial academy.

When the imperial forces arrived, the free community welcomed them, offered food and shelter. These were simple hospitable people. But they were naive. When they started seeing hidden weapons and armies stationed not too far away, they took measures of defense just in case the guest turned out to be hostile. The Emperor and the imperial delegates got frustrated that the community wasn't making it easy for them to invade and also noticed the defensive preparations.

Patience and strategy weren't Emperor's strongest suits and not long after Emperor order a full attack. Armies of Polonia, Huobia and Binaxia joined forces with imperial war machine and attacked at night when the people of the community were asleep. Community started waking up hearing all the loud noise in chaos. It didn't take long for the community get together in an organized fashion to defend their home. By mid day the community was able to push the imperial forces and their allies back, but not fully.

The battle continued for days. In the meantime wizards of various skills in the community started strategizing and calculating most optical course of action. They couldn't give up on freedom and hope. All wizards, builders, talents of the community were working around the clock to hold the defenses and coming up with a solution to survived the attack. Wizards suggested best course of action is to find a new home where community could live in peace and there was no threat of imperial forces.

After days and days of hard work, wizards were able to build a portal to a new planet, a new home where imperial weapons would not function, where Emperor would have no power. Once the portal was ready and launched, people of the community started teleporting to the new home. They named it Hive. Because the hard working nature of the community resembled of the endurance and team camaraderie of bees.

Hive became the new home, new hope for the community. As the community moved to this new home, they still had their properties left in the old home. Fortunately, their properties were secure in cryptographic vaults that only they had access too. It was powered by sacred blockchain technology. It was a big no no to attempt to break the vaults and steal property in the galaxy, even for the Emperor. But the Emperor was so frustrated that he wasn't able to subjugate the community and use them in his evil plans, he had to take even more drastic actions. The Emperor had to strike back.

The Emperor ordered imperial minions to make the list of the richest in the community, find a way to break their vaults. After searching for a while imperial minions found ancient writing in our of the abandoned community libraries. These ancient writings had a guide to break the vaults in an emergency situations. These writing had a warning that they would do enormous amount of damage in the evil hands. The Emperor was blinded with anger to see the truth and heed the warnings. This was a perfect opportunity for the Empire to strike back.

The Emperor ordered minions to build a new vault and specifically named it "community" or "community321" to be exact. In his mind this would hurt the community even more. The plan was put in place with a code name HF23 to break the vaults of the people, seize their property of the richest and those who openly fought against the Emperor. All of the seized property was going to be place in Emperor's new vault - community321. This massive theft and blasphemous actions against blockchain laws was going to take place on May 20th, 2020 at 14:00 UTC galactic time.

The news of this plan was spread throughout the galaxy and people felt powerless against Emperial powers once again. Everybody in the galaxy, especially the Hive community was tuned in to the galactic news and blockchain stream to witness this event. 10 minutes before the event was scheduled to happen, something strange happens in the blockchain stream. Nobody could understand what it was. It looked like the new key that can access the community321 vault was forged. Since only the Emperor had the key to the vault, everybody assumed that the Emperor was taking extra security measures out of greed. But the Emperor wasn't that smart to forge new keys.

The time has come. The event ended up happening. Millions of hard earned wealth of people were stolen from their personal vaults and transferred to the Emperor's new vault.

Something miraculous happens after exactly 2 minutes and 48 seconds of the event. 23,627,501 in ancient coins from the community321 vault are transferred to a neutral kingdom of Bittrexus with a message - "These are funds stolen by the Steem witnesses using HF23 May 20th 2020 - please return them to their original owners prior to the fork :)"

This were the acts of bravery and wizardly powers by the anonymous hero, who has become to be known as the Robin Hood of Hive. Robin Hood also sent a message to the Emperor saying - "Stealing is bad".

We don't know who this Robin Hood is. There are rumors that suggest it must be some guy. To which I may respond, why not some girl? I am sure there are many geek girls in Hive community too. But since I already know one, and know for the fact she didn't do it, Robin Hood is probably some guy.

There was a time when some guy came to the rescue of the community. This might be a time for the community to come to the aid of some guy?

Vote for your Witnesses/Wizards

Especially, vote for some guy. Or some girl. Pick your numbers: 1, 2, 3, etc. Just vote!

I voted for him even though I think he should crank up his HBD APR from 7% to 12%+

Finally, someone figured out the purpose of the post, which was to encourage people to vote for some guy. :)

I agree, 12% APR is better than 7%. That might be the reason he dropped out of top 20.

Thank You.

I can remember those tenuous days clear as it were yesterday. They came vowing peace, prosperity and cooperation but acted much more different to their vaulted words; deceit, treachery and tyranny.
Conquerors rather than partners.
Hugging my children I wept, "Alas, our way of life is ending!"
Then I heard the Town Cryer's words ringing of hope, "Behold, an escape is at hand!"

You describe it very well. :)

Wow @geekgirl, that wasn't what I was expecting at all. And no you are NOT horrible at writing fiction, or anything else.
A nice well-told journey down memory lane and the bad old days of evil Emporers!

I think I catch your drift...
So Robin Hood of Hive is some guy, huh? And he's a wizard?
If that's the case I'd have to say he's one of my top 30 favorite wizards, and hopefully the community as a whole thinks he's one of their top 20 wizards.

Ahaha! I know that story! I remember it very well. I think that in the next episode the emperor gets his revenge with a pandemic. Ah no sorry, I am mixing books ;)

Hi @lemouth!
I knew it was written already.
Oh well, I will go find something better to do.

I am sure you will find ;) Happy holiday in the meantime!

This should be a movie! Nevertheless, I am totally dumb when comes to the whole crypto system and Hive platform. Although I am a member since 2017, I know only very basics had I had no clue about this ordeal between Hive and Steemit! I just know there was a split. But your story made me understand so well, because my mind works better on fantasy level, than pure logic. Thank you so much!

Thank You!

You are most welcome!

This is brilliant!

lol Thanks.

I was expecting another thing but this got me. The story really killed it. Nice work

Really cool story. Thanks for providing this bit of entertainment with a deeper message :-)

I don’t think anybody understood the message yet. 😂

I can’t believe you remember the details. You must have a photographic memory or written down notes. I prefer the former. Curious maybe silly to ask but on Hive this can not be done right? Can’t have someone take control of another’s assets without permission?

Anything is possible. But highly unlikely on Hive. Largest stakeholder only has 3% of total stakes. Any takeover attempts on Hive would drive the price so high that everybody would be happy. lol

Nobody can take control of accounts/wallets on Hive via core code change. Of course there is always a risk of people revealing their keys themselves by accident or phishing attacks.

Interesting read. I didn't really know all of the details of what went down over there. So do you know if the funds were returned by Bittrex to their original owners?

Nope

Damn that sucks. 👎

at some point the steem becomes worthless :) So you would prefer the $ value of the day or the steem if you could it back?

I still want to dump the steem, don't care about the price

No, but last I heard this was taken to courts.

Okay gotcha. So its stillnin the works. Hopefully they get it back 🤞

I love how you just turned the whole thing to a story. Lol. I never knew something like this happened. A worthy walk down memory lane. Newbies should see this.

Thank you!

That's a great story, recalling the great moment when Hive became independent from Steemit.
Glad I am here! Thanks for sharing

Thank You.

I have heard about this event before but this happened before I joined the chain. I hope he stays anonymous though so there is no backlash to him.

What a great story and what a turnaround for something greater and community-ruled blockchain made for the people and by the people!

Thank you.

Now, with that much effort, I won’t be able to help myself. I’LL HAVE TO VOTE. AND VOTE!

##GIRL POWER. YAY!

Thank you.

Great Story, love it! Too bad things like that never happen in real life.

Nope, only in fiction.

Some people are special, aren't they? What happened with the funds after the story ends?

Great way to tell the story! Very well written!

Thank you.

Wait what if some guy did what he did cause of some girl i mean is exactly what this whole thing is missing a love story!!

That sounds like chapter 2. You turn to write. :)

I knew that there was the hostile takeover when Ned screwed the Steem community and practically sold it off to Justin but to know that also happened was just wow and was glad I made the decision to power down Steem and focus on Hive

Awesome post and an interesting one as well. Keep up the good work @geekgirl

I've heard about the history of Hive, and that was awesome. Great writing!!

Thank you.

Gm,

Funny times around the birth of hive.

Real story :D

I dont know if most part of people knows that story is Hive story

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Read all through but still don't understand, maybe I need someone to break it down for me. I trust it's a great one

People won. Empire lost. Some guy emerged as a hero. There is also a Hive witness whose name may or may not remind some guy. He also may or may not need witness votes.

Oh! Now I understand. Thanks for the Break down

And then the witnesses of Hive got together and formed a confederacy so as to bully and censor all those that did not agree with their perspectives and what were once freedom loving folk now faced with the opportunity of wealth quickly tightened their belts and denied any previous intentions of altruism for the platform.

lol

Does the story continue?

It’s good that even on Christmas day, I decided to visit accounts that I follow and will end the day breathing fresh air. Reading your post, many ideas enter my mind. Reminds me of Chaos Legion in a different way, also of CBDC and the parasitical class. I don’t know how to describe this type of literary piece? Is it a parable? A lore? A symbolic or prophetic? Just curious about the identity of this emperor and his cohorts. They are good in posturing, but really insecure. It appears that they specialize on one thing: stealing and killing innovation. Can they really be that successful against a digital country like Hive? Near the end, it looks like a retelling of the story behind what happened between Steem and Hive. Reminds me of two kinds of Robin Hood. I am not aware that there is third one on Hive.

Yes, it was based on true story of Hive.

In last CTT talk, your story has been specially mentioned. I think it was Dan who said that reading your story reminded him of the Hobbit days and all kinds of memories. That’s what good literature do. You are really gifted in story-telling. A blessed 2022!

I hadn't heard this story before. Whoever it was is a true hero ❤️

I hope you had a merry Christmas :)
