Lots of exciting things have been happening in the world of DeFi (decentralized finance) and Ethereum over the past couple of months. One of the most exciting aspects of it all surrounds the Uniswap protocol. In May of 2020, Uniswap V2 launched, which gave users the ability to perform direct ERC20 to ERC20 swaps, using liquidity pools to provide near-instant trading. The project was open-source and that came with some pitfalls. An anonymous sushi chef by the name of Chef Nomi created a fork of Uniswap called SushiSwap, which leeched liquidity (over $800 million worth of assets) from Uniswap, due to the promise of a $SUSHI governance token and a more decentralized approach to the automated market maker.

Today, Uniswap decided to follow suit, and launched their own governance token, $UNI. 400 UNI were airdropped to anyone that used the Uniswap protocol, with a total of 1 billion tokens minted.
