I am still confused a bit about the later stages such as xStaking Amplification. Does this mean that there is some revenue generated elsewhere to buy PolyCUB and add it to the reward pool?

Yeah, I haven't heard about it either yet. Something else they kept for later release when it'll have more impact, I believe.
