Now this is a good selling point for HIVE!

in LeoFinance4 years ago

People can earn on HIVE for simply 'liking' something...

I stumbled upon this on Crypto Twitter by one of our own @brianoflondon...

(Source: ~~~ embed:1271869718262145024) twitter metadata:YnJpYW5vZmxvbmRvbnx8aHR0cHM6Ly90d2l0dGVyLmNvbS9icmlhbm9mbG9uZG9uL3N0YXR1cy8xMjcxODY5NzE4MjYyMTQ1MDI0KXw= ~~~

And it really got me thinking...

This is what we probably should be promoting here!

Initially, we all kind of went out and talked about how people can earn from their content, this got a lot of people to sign up and start interacting during the bull market of 2017, but that idea was soon revealed to be a lot more difficult than they initially believed it would be and many left...

However, the idea of 'liking' something to earn money is perhaps a little easier of a sell.

First and foremost, it appeals to anyone and everyone. Not everyone can type a long form blog that people want to read, or lead a super interesting life that others want to follow, and not everyone can take beautiful selfies that others find appealing...

But EVERYONE can click a 'like' button...

Yes I know that we use upvote and downvote buttons that aren't technically called 'likes', but just go with me here for a moment...

I think that perhaps a better way to frame (and sell) HIVE is to tell people how they can earn money simply interacting on the site and liking (upvoting) things. Yes they will need a little bit of HP before they will see any meaningful curation rewards, but overall that may be a better way to sell this thing than to tell people they can earn for creating content.

Yes earning for creating content is a major benefit and yes having your content being your own and mostly censorship resistant is also a major selling point, but pushing the idea that people can earn by simply clicking a button sounds like it might appeal to the largest amount of people...

Thoughts?

Stay informed my friends.

The thing that is leaping out at me is that Hive is an opportunity for investors to earn a good return.

I'm doing well with my own investment so far just voting for content I like. Post payouts are low, but 10% return for curation is good.

Like many people surrounded by things that are not looking good - I'm very interested in an investment that could go up in value and pay 10% as well. There are a lot of people looking for better investments right now.

On Steemit I was only thinking of it as a blogging platform for the past two years because I didn't trust it an inch, and kept my Steem liquid. With Hive paying back half the upvotes as curation rewards there is a massive incentive to invest and vote, but this doesn't seem to be promoted.

For people who are not even into the platform - 2% in a bank vs 8.5% on curangel - Hive is an investment waiting to be discovered!

And this could push the price up as well. It all looks good to me, I'm thinking it's unlikely that the price of Hive will drop under 20 cents again, but could well climb, so that side of the investment looks promising too.

One thing to keep in mind is that the inflation is roughly 7% per year right now as well. So, earning 10% on curation may turn out to be closer to 3%, depending on how the price performs. Though, the price is extremely volatile compared to other investments so it's tough to use that same approach when calculating yearly expected profits.

And I'm guessing inflation is about to go through the roof - but if that happens, maybe the price of Hive will as well?

Hopefully. Though there is no guarantee inflation will go through the roof. The new money will likely slowly work its way out into the economy which will cause inflation slowly over time. No hyperinflation all at once, at least not yet.

Here in NZ right now, there is so much stuff on sale as businesses try to get some action going, that prices have dropped.

as long as people realize that likes are cents and not dollars that's fine... and indeed a good point

Likes ARE dollars. All one needs to do is buy some serious amounts of Hive and stake it. Period.

They certainly can be. Though it takes a sizable investment.

Yep, that is our main weapon... I don't know why we are not promoting further this action.
"Mine while you like"

let's do it.

yes, let's make a campaign for this. i totally agree.

it's brilliant because of this one thing: it's simple.

I'll add this to the Hive Marketing Discord, so we can work on this after the referral one...

Nice, glad to hear it. Simple attracts. Simple and money are a good combination!

Eeeh ... I have done a few post on the topic "Get paid for hitting the like button" tweet and all :)

Good deal, keep it up!

very good point!

There's a risk of people taking such a pitch for a scam.

If you go around telling people you need "just a little bit" of HP before you can earn meaningful rewards from liking, then you are actually not telling the truth.

If you want to earn from curation, you need to earn quite a lot of author rewards or buy a quite lot of Hive Power first.

I think it would be perfectly fine to tell people that HIVE is a cryptocurrency that you can lock into voting power (Hive Power) that allows you to have a say on which posts get rewarded on a content delivery/social media platform called Hive and that you get rewarded for voting on posts, too. And that the better you predict which posts will become popular, the more you can earn by upvoting them early. That's the exact truth about how Hive Power works. Hive is a social media where the monetary side of things is peer-to-peer, too.

Sure. The point was that perhaps selling that side of the equation might be a better approach than selling the content creation side... or perhaps not, though we have tried the latter for years now with a terrible retention rate.

I seriously think there's something wrong with humanity because the earn from content creation hasn't been an immediate hit. I've come to believe I've grossly overestimated by fellow human beings. Perhaps Hive should be wrapped around a centralized layer to make the experience deliberately worse to make it more palatable to the average person. I don't mean worse in terms of visual appeal and all the bells and whistles on mainstream platforms. I'm talking about launching perhaps a tipping app based on Hive that can be used to tip authors on centralized platfroms. Oh wait, such an app has been recently launched: Hive Tips. :)

Yea I agree with you there... I thought once people heard you can earn from posting they would be breaking down the doors signing up... I am surprised it hasn't caught on more.

There are a lot of narratives that we can use to sell hive to different types of users/investors/creators.

I think this idea of "like" your favorite content to get paid and pay your favorite creators is a good one, especially for the folks who are simply out there looking to enjoy good content, support the creator and then receive something for their viewership as a cherry on top. They won't get rich doing it, but they'll do something they already like and earn something more than 0.

Yeap, I've always thought the duality of content creation vs. curation was a great selling point. 2 entry points both appealing. Now that it's 50/50 split... it should be even more appealing for the curation side of things ("the likers")

JB

Throw in some games where people can earn by simply playing a game that they enjoy and we really have something.

I like it.

Yes, this is a good point. And we can do it too! We should be more into interacting, than on creating content without interacting with each other.

I've only been saying this for... years.

The more it gets said the better!

A little bit of HP gets them nothing. In my opinion, one can earn consistently by producing high quality content ( which very few can), else one has to invest moderately to get curation rewards. And both does not attract a lot of people in my opinion.

Sure, and that is the difficult part of the sell... Though once that hurdle is cleared it can potentially appeal to a heck of a lot more people...
