“Black birds tend to like Shiny things.” ~ The Bloody Raven
Those new to this aspect of my blogging adventures, “Beyond the Coinstar Machine” it is about finding Silver coins from non-conventional sources, or ‘Stacking for free’ so to speak, by checking the tray of Coinstar machines, Compass fare, vending machines and any change handling machine.
January seemed about average in the number of coins found and for some crazy reason the month February turned out pretty rich, but March with the onset of the Covvid-19/Wuhan virus findings a bit fewer as the traffic around the Change machines dropped off.

1 x Center slug of Polar Bear only and… No, it’s not worth $2 or $1.
There were plenty of people fascinated by the new cash and the 'twisted' few tried to dislodge the bronze center from the nickel ring. Even on the TV News, showing exuberant young lads throwing the coins onto the sidewalk in attempt to ‘Break’ apart the coin. Such irrational actions drew warnings from mint officials that warned of charges levied to those willfully damaging Public Property, but to the credit of the mint that it’s made tough and such occurrences where very rare.

That is quite a haul and an extensive update! I can't believe people are lax with their coins. I guess you can tell that I count my pennies! Thanks for sharing!
Be safe and take care always sis @kerrislravenhill 🥰🌺🤙and a million Hugs and Kisses 🤗💕💋!
Extensive and unnecessarily comprehensive methinks. You know me, I'm a 'Details' kind of person and could easily get carried away.
Yes we west coast Canadians tend not to sweat the bother of collecting the loose change left in the machines with rushing around lifestyles don't we?
But it simply adds up to the point that I can already buy a silver bullion coin! And we're into April!
Anyway, I expect a big plunge from April on of incoming coins with the mass self quarantine of just about everyone but me.
Always, with love 💗 🥰 🌷 🎏
It sure does add up... just look at what you have!!!!
You're always killing it with Coinstar! I used to get all sorts of coins from the one at Safeway, but, since I moved there isn't one near me. Keep stackin' my raven friend!
Thanks @fat-elvis
Just a comprehensive update about the rest of the coin finds this quarter.
Mind that 90% of the coins came from Compass Fare machines, and the silver dime, majority of the junk and foreign coins came from the Coinstar. Yesterday, my favorite Coinstar was "Out of Order" so I must locate more machines.
I think it is amazing the quantity of Canadian coins that you found. Why didn't the machine accept them? They look like normal coins to me...
The majority of the coins come from Compass Bus Fare machines and the coins are left behind by passengers who may be in a hurry to catch their bus or train, don't gather all their entitled change from payment.
The Ticket/coin return tray is located fairly low on the machine and one would have to negotiate around a plastic flap to access the contents. Not a very ergonomically designed.
If their hands are cold they may not be able to clear all the coins in the ticket/coin return tray.
Another reason is the passenger decides it's not worth risking contracting a germ or virus just to pickup a nickel, dime, or even quarter where everyone's hands have already been. (I carry a hand sanitizer.)
I've have found normal coins that have been rejected by the Coinstar Machine.
The reason why the Machine rejects them is unknown to me since I don't know what the sorting process is used and it's difficult to find that information.
I know machines are tuned to a Country's currency profile.
It would have to be at least sorted by size and weight together.
So, our Canadian machines often reject US and foreign coins hence where I get most of my foreign coin collection.
Happy Hunting @ronaldoavelino
OMG, what a haul...! 😮
That is super-sweet! 😁
Lol, it is analogous to what my Dad would do checking Pay phone coin Returns and he'd often find a quarter.
That was before the cell phone days.
It's something for me to do while I wait for my bus... free cash! and I save it up to buy a Silver coin.
Last year it paid for a Blackbeard "Queen Anne's Revenge" silver coin.
Thanks for dropping in @thekittygirl
That’s a fantastic haul Raven. I don’t have many places by me that have these machines. The only one that i even know of it at a grocery store.
Take care and stay safe
You have the touch @kerrislravenhill!!🤗
Every time I look I find nothing....🤔
Let me know when you find "The Gold"!!🤗
That would be awesome, that would make all the trips to the Coinstar worthwhile!🤗
With Compass Fare Machines at nights I visually check them using a Tactical flashlight, in the daytime usually by flipping up the plastic flap so I don't have to commit putting my hand inside unless there is a coin or two but sometimes it's cluttered with paper receipts.
With Coinstar I can simply make a visual check before retrieving any coins since the machine is in a well lit area.
And I do own a Garrett 400i Metal detector when I visit the local beaches and parks.
Thanks for the comment @chesatochi
