Lithium has become one of the essential mineral for the future. Its importance relies in its use for the manufacture of lithium-ion batteries, specially used by electric vehicles (EV).
According to this article Australia (49%) is the main producer of lithium. It is followed by Chile (22%), China (17%) and Argentina (8%). Those four countries produce 96% of the world's lithium.
The US has lithium deposits. The only lithium producing mine (Albemarle) is in the Clayton Valley in Nevada. Lithium deposits exist in Arkansas (Smackover Formation), California (Salton Sea), Utah (Great Salt Lake), Nevada (Kings Valley), and North Carolina (Kings Mountain).
