Rice was supposed to be abundant in 2023, offsetting in some way the shortages of other food items. However, this seems not to be true anymore.

India was supposed to have a good rice production. However, a below- average monsoon season, has forced farmers to decrease planting. For this reason, India has imposed restrictions on rice exports. The United States, specially in California, produces and exports rice. However, megadrought conditions are decreasing the amount of water for agricultural purposes.

For these reasons, it is likely that we will have rice shortages in 2023, all this on top of grain and other food shortages.
