News: September 14, 2022. Ethereum's Merge Will Occur In a Few Hours

Ethereum's Merge (formerly known as Ethereum 2.0) is set to occur on September 14, 2022 at 2200 PDT or September 15, 2022 0100 EDT or September 15, 2022 0500 UTC.

The Ethereum network will leave its consensus mechanism Proof-of-Work (POW) (energy intensive) as its layer merges with the new Proof-of-Stake (POS) consensus layer known as the Beacon Chain which it is supposed to be less energy intensive.

There is a possibility that the old ETH (POW)could fork away creating a token called ETHW while POS will continue to use ETH.

The Merge process will last 12 minutes
