Beware The Rabbit of Apparent Fortune [Or, Beware the Bunny of Bitcoin]

in LeoFinance3 years ago (edited)

What do rabbits and Bitcoin have in common?

Bear with me - or bunny with me, if you like.

Picture this. You're in the Arctic Circle, and the last of the blueberries have gone. The wolve are howling, and the lake is frozen over. You've set snares, but haven't had any protein for a week - in fact, all you've managed is lichen stew. One morning, you wake up, and in your snare you find a rabbit. It's even better than Christmas - this could mean you win five hundred thousand dollars. Man, if there's any reason to gush on camera, crying with gratitude and grinning from bunny ear to bunny ear, this moment is it. Besides, not only that, you get a great rabbit scarf out of it.

Not the bunny featured on Alone Series 6

Okay, not my scenario, and if you've watched Season 6 of Alone, you'll know what I'm talking about. Man, the gushing. I mean, I get it - if you're starving, see a rabbit in your snare is sure worthy of a pretty darn happy reaction - but to go from that to imagining a penthouse, champagne and dancing girls? Whoooaaah... steady on. Because it's equally likely that this fluffy little critter could be your last bunny.

Since that brilliant moment of television, we've adopted the bunny as a warning of being too excited. You know, like when bitcoin hits 70,000 AUD and you can see paying off your mortgage, quitting work and getting out the champagne and the dancing girls. It's easy to do, right? When things are looking 'up', you can project that to the best possible scenario, and when they're down, the future can look absolutely dismal. Worse, is when the Bunny of Apparent Fortune arrives and another one doesn't hop on by when you thought they were going to (what's the collective noun for a group of bunnies?), or, you realise that the meat on dat bunny ain't gonna feed you for the rest of the month, after all.

Not the Bunny of Bitcoin either

Cue tears, disappointment, and general harumphing.

That is, unless you know about the Bunny of Apparent Fortune.

This is the kind of beast that you are totally allowed to get excited about, and feel hopeful, and stroke it's little bunny ears and say thankyou for coming my way, I love you, you ROCK the whole HIVE of bunnies - or gaggle, or fluffball, or whatever the collective noun for bunnies is, over. Now we have met and are able to recognise The Bunny, we can remind each other: 'don't get too excited yet, honey, it's just a bunny' or 'remember the bunny?'.

.

It's a reminder to keep in the back of our mind at least a little equanimity.

It's a reminder to understand that life is full of bunnies on swings and roundabouts, on rollercoasters and flashing in pans, bunnies that are here today and gone tomorrow. We can enjoy their bunniness whilst they are here, but we don't hinge all our life's joy in them.

As some famous bunny once said in the Bunnapada:

Touched by happiness and then by suffering, the sage shows no sign of being elated or depressed.”

Okay that might have been the Buddha in the Dhammapada, but don't let the truth get in the way of a good extended metaphor.

Perhaps we could also summon a little Pema Chodron:

“To cultivate equanimity we practice catching ourselves when we feel attraction or aversion, before it hardens into grasping or negativity.”

It's fine the Bunny of Bitcoin bounced upwards this week - we sold a wee bit to put into a project, but we didn't quite pay off the mortgage. No need to get depressed about the fall - the bunny'll be back.

Easy bunny come, easy bunny go.

No bunnies were harmed in the making of this post. This post is dedicated to the memory of Bun, who died just before the pandemic, which was sad, but was replaced with a puppy, which was not sad. She was a fine rabbit, if a little deaf, and fond of biting, and everyone loved her dearly.

With Love,

Bouncing bunnies and bitcoin... LOL... HOW MUCH wine did you consume before penning this post??

It's easy to do... imagine the dancing girls and the huge inflow of funds. Great that you managed to sell off a bit for a project, and that life still trumps pure speculation. Sidebar: are we allowed to say 'trumps' anymore?

Now had we only been in The Philippines when they had that tech error... LOL. A fascinating ride.

The bunny metaphors are leaving me itchy tho. 😆

Well, here's a new one - haven't had a drink all year. I know right?

Haha I can't say 'trumps' without shivering...

Are you allergic to rabbits? Wow!

champagne and the dancing girls

I don't have any of this...But I do have Diet Pepsi and can tap my foot...Is that ok?

I haven't seen Alone but I recall another famous bunny from Hollywood that didn't fare so well. Remember that movie Fatal Attraction? That bunny-boiler Glenn Close saw that furry little bunny to its hot-watery demise. Let's hope BTC fares better.

You sold some to throw into the Landie? I thought about it but decided to hold. Let's hope it goes in the right direction.

Ah yeah, good old Fatal Attraction! How could I forget - so many films of that era STUCK! You can tap your foot? As long as you don't tap both at once, you'll be just fine.

Just a teeny sell - parts are so essential to this rebuild!

The term bunny-boiler exists thanks to that movie. There's a few out there too.

If I could tap both feet at the same time whilst standing I'd sell myself to the circus for half a BTC.

Parts for Landie is a good use of it.✅

Glad you managed to nurture that 🐰 and get something of use for your house! I'm still holding on for the moment and trying to build despite being over the moon about what's happened the last few months (no pun intended)!

Just a wee bit - hodling the rest with the best!

To be quite honest, I probably didn't get half your references you mentioned here, still I couldn't stop laughing. There is something about bunnies... and how you apply them to represent Bitcoin fortunes. Oh, and your pics, super cute!!! Talking about funny bunnies, here is a pic of Young Louis. He's an Angora Bunny from New Zealand, just before getting his haircut.

Ahhhaha that hilarious.. they can just look so WEIRD!!!! I'm glad you got a laugh, I was giggling writing it!

Until you find THE bunny!
