Capitalism is often associated with evil, and while it can be a tool used for evil or by bad people, I personally feel that the idea that hard work and wise choices can provide financial rewards, is not inherently evil. In fact it is the path to abundance, and from abundance does charity spring forth.
Meritocracy
- I feel that the idea of rewarding good deeds and superior performance is not a new or inherently divisive concept. And that it is not an inherently evil concept. I feel it encourages and incentivizes the behavior we want to see more of in society.
Mediocracy
I feel that the idea of rewarding average or mediocre performance, while good intentioned perhaps, in seeking to make people feel their efforts have value. It sends the wrong message to both children and adults, because it disincentivizes people from doing their best and it suggests that mediocrity is an acceptable goal to aspire to.. which I don’t think is what we wish to encourage in our society.
Hive Capitalism is a variant of capitalism
Hives economy isn’t a simple one based on buying or producing goods at one price and selling it for a higher price.
Hive Capitalism attempts to allow the buyer to ascertain the price or value of an item, but also seeks to share the profits produced by the sale or purchase of an item between the buyer and seller.
Hive capitalism does this through splitting the rewards from upvotes between content creator and content buyer or content consumer who upvotes content, so the upvote is the buyer determining the price or value of content. - In this model the Hive money printing machine distributes money to buy content daily to all Hive citizens in the form of the recharging voting power and the regenerating reward pool.
It should be noted that the amount of voting power and the amount of rewards are not equal, they are based on a form of Meritocracy based on accumulated Hive.
This daily regenerating wealth can be both distributed and earned through our own efforts and the efforts of others. We can cultivate and grow a group who base or a collection of content
Hive Capitalism is far from perfect, as are other forms of capitalism.
I think that although the daily recharging voting power, the daily regenerating reward pool and the sharing of rewards suggests abundance. And should reduce greed, envy and anger about rewards.
But it does not do that.. Even in a land of plenty, people still display greed, envy and anger.
It seems that even though we have left the traditional capitalist ecosystem and operate in a new one. We can’t leave behind our attitudes and behaviors, and those things are responsible for much of the unpleasantness on Hive.
But that is a topic for another time.

I like the analogies! I think capitalism is generally good for society although it has certain drawbacks. That's the paradoxical nature of human beings, the more we have, the less satisfied. I think the Hive ecosystem is set up in a way that all of us can build equity and create win-win situations.
This article is beautiful. You're right, we brought with us what we had become with capitalism. There are wonderful posts with very low rewards and vice versa. I notice every now and then that there are those who aim for quantity and not for quality, interacting even little, but they manage to obtain excellent results. As you wrote HIVE is not perfect, but it can become. !LOLZ
Exactly. What we see now is the gift to us.
