Hmm.... Interesting to think about.
A visionary leader is certainly important and I'm a numbers man. I always break things down to look at the numbers to see if things will work.
However, as you mentioned you can't do everything and that you must delegate to others. I think finding capable and honest others to work with you is a major thing. I've had two project that I've tried to get running. I had vision. I knew the numbers but trying to find others who could see the vision and work towards completing it was brutally difficult.
Just my quick thoughts.
It is extremely difficult to find capable and honest hands who share in the vision. Many people want to use one’s vision or idea as a stepping stone, and as such, they treat it with utter disdain.
I once worked at a private school, doubling as both a housemaster and a class teacher. I knew I wanted more, but I still gave it my all. The almost three years I spent there were among the best in my career.
I learned and relearned, met new people, and developed both professional and managerial skills.
I believe that in any job, you learn something when you do it diligently not with the mindset that it’s just a shortterm job and you will be leaving in three months.
