This is one of those crazy treasure finding stories I love to share π
What's different about this one though is that the lucky finders were not out for a treasure hunt. No metal detectors, no legends or stories to follow, no shovels, no nothing.
Just two dudes hiking near the KrkonoΕ‘e Mountains of the Czech Republic sometime this February.
So, while walking one of them noticed something hidden in a moss-covered stone wall.
After closer inspection, they discovered a stash of 598 gold coins wrapped in black fabric inside an aluminum canister. Yep, you read that right, 598 gold coins!
The coins dated from 1808 to 1915 and originated from all kinds of countries like
France, Austria and the now extinct Ottoman Empire (turkey). The total weight was about 15 pounds or 6.8 kilos.
But the jackpot doesn't end here! In a spot nearby they found another treasure. A metal box with bracelets, a comb, a chain with a small key and other neat stuff.

To the untrained eye it might not look like something super crazy but with current prices of gold you have over half a million usd over there!
Not bad for a casual hike in the forest. That's literally wife changing money π°

Interestingly, the hikers didn't keep the treasure for themselves but instead delivered it to the authorities and it's now held by Museum of East Bohemia. Having said that, they may be entitled to a 10% of finderβs reward under Czech law.
The origins of the treasure are still unknown but it's probably tied to WW II and someone hiding his family savings from the Nazis.
But the real mystery is why the two hikers didn't shut up and hold everything for themselves π π ππππ

With only a 10% finders fee it may not be a true "wife" changing treasure. It they had kept it all and kept it quiet then it sure would have been! They were honest and now it will be in a museum. It would make Indiana Jones very proud...

Maybe thus was one of their few questions. Not everyone wants to enter trouble. 10% is still something.

That is a truly amazing find. Although I am not quite sure why it caused the hikers to change their wives.
Maybe they realized that they could get young and cute wives with the treasure.
Or maybe the wives were upset that they turned the treasure into the state and the wives were the one's who changed the husbands.
