The Fortune of François Martin, or How to Become a Crypto-Billionaire

See Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.

The origin of the fortune of François Martin is the two thousand US dollars he spent to buy Bitcoins in August 2010.

After the two virus outbreaks: SARS in 2002-2004 and MERS that started in 2012, François looked for information about possible future pandemics. With Borcsi, they realized that pandemics were almost guaranteed to happen in the future, and they wanted to invest in businesses and products that would be needed at all times, even during a pandemic.

He made a list of such possible domains:

  • lodging (but no hotels or temporary lodging)
  • food production (but no animals as they require daily care)
  • food distribution, including transportation (but no restaurants)
  • energy production
  • online entertainment

So, after discussing with their children, they decided that their family office would buy a farm (food production) and an apartment building (lodging). On the farm, they would put solar panels (energy production). They will also finance a new small gaming studio with Joséphine as CEO (online entertainment).

They found a good farm of 20 hectares, 5 km southwest of Abbotsford. It was bordered on the east and south sides by small public roads, and a creek was bordering the northeast corner. They created an artificial pond near the creek so that water would be available at all times.
In the southwest corner, they created 30 plots of 1,000 m2, each with a small shack and a water tap, and they rented them for a reasonable price to people that wanted to have a large vegetable garden. On the north side, they put 2 hectares of solar panels, with some large batteries and the equipment to produce alternating current to be used locally or sent to the grid.
And the rest of the farm was producing organic fruits and vegetables, managed by Clovis, the agronomist.

After more than nine years working to develop video games for Electronic Arts, Joséphine wanted to be more independent, while continuing to work in the video game industry. So, with the approval of Electronic Arts, she created her own video game studio: Marjos entertainment Inc., financed mostly by the Martin family office and also by Electronic Arts themselves. She took with her four employees of EA, including her partner Jessica, and they started to develop one video game, on the game engine Unreal.

With the help of Charles who now knew in depth the real estate market in Abbotsford, François bought an apartment building with 32 suites: 16 three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and 16 two bedrooms, two bathrooms, on 4 levels. It had an underground parking garage with 48 parking spots and an outdoor parking with 20 parking places.
As there was some land near the building, they built an annex, connected to the building, with a large dining space where 50 people could sit, and 3 kitchens, one large and two smaller. Every Sunday for lunch, the company provided a free lunch with the menu know one week in advance. The tenants had to register before Thursday evening. The Sunday lunch became very popular among the tenants; it helped them to become a tight community. It also allowed the company to get feedback from the tenants and even suggestions for improvements.
Also, the tenants could rent for a nominal price the dining room and one kitchen when they had many guests.

Charles, who was now living with his girlfriend Amancia, from Jamaican origins, was the strata manager of the building.

For themselves, François and Borcsi bought a large empty lot and decided to design their dream house, for themselves and their family.

Continue to Part 5

Remember that this is a work of fiction. François Martin does not exist (at least not the one in this story). But everything that is described could have happened IRL.

If you have suggestions for the continuation of this story in the future (after 2021), please put them in the comments.

Now this reminds me of my dcity....i am now enjoying it

When reading I see that what leads François to obtain his profits is the organization in his actions, his businesses are linked and increasing his profits, I mean that nothing is easy, his work and visionary way of seeing business make him achieve his objectives

Why do I have a gut feeling your actually writing non-fiction here? lol.

Well, your gut feeling is not totally accurate. Yes, this looks a little like my life, but François has much more luck and discipline than myself and is a thousand times more successful than me.

Do you know which one is the next billion of dollars coin.

I guess you meant "billion" in the British English sense, which is equivalent to "trillion" in American English.

The next trillion dollar coin is, without a doubt, Ethereum.
