Ethereum Gas Fee Calculator: How to calculate the gas fee for Ethereum transactions?

in LeoFinance4 years ago (edited)

ETH tx fee = Gas_Used * Gas_Price (in ETH)

How much an Ethereum transaction costs depends on two factors: How much gas a transaction consumes and the current gas price:

ETH tx fee = Gas_Used * Gas_Price (in ETH)

Similar to Bitcoin, you can set the gas price you are willing to pay and depending on how much you bid, the transaction will be executed sooner or later.

Gas_Used is the actual amount of gas consumed per transaction. For example, a simple ETH transfer requires 21000 gas.

Since you do not always know exactly how much gas a complex Smart Contract consumes, you usually set a Gas_Limit. If this limit is exceeded, the transaction is cancelled and you pay the gas consumed up to the limit.

In the last few weeks the gas price of Ethereum has skyrocketed due to the DeFi hype and a simple Tx for example cost $5 dollars a few days ago and some DeFi applications with Smart Contracts charged you 10 times (!) that.

Currently a simple Ethereum transaction costs about $0.62 (2020-09-07 Gas_Price at 88 gwei).

You can check the current gas price on the ETH Gas Station website and there is also a handy Tx Fee Calculator that I can recommend:

What do you think about the high gas price of Ethereum? With a skyrocketed gas price, is it still feasible to run DApps and DeFi on Ethereum?

Ohhh I love this post!! This was the one question I had wrong within my examination two years ago. Couldn't be reminded often enough 💗
