People like Julian Assange and Edward Snowden are not mere heroes; but saints in flesh in the modern world. Hero is too light of a word to describe what they have done in the name of truth. They have sacrificed everything. Normally I don't see large scale support for freedom, privacy and security from most media. Julian Assange is getting positive coverage from many (especially the more independent and small scale content creators) who don't even have a history of supporting libertarian causes.
Yet the governments are not budging. There are studies that prove that your vote in democracies does not matter. The lesson learned from these researches are generally the wrong one (calling for more and stricter government instead of less government.)

I'm surprised there are no comments on this article, yet. I don't think I've spent as long reading an article before. This is huge.
The US is really expanding the bounds of how they can apply the law against Assange. The ramifications of successfully prosecuting him are pretty dark. If he actually gets extradited, all media outlets are going to need to support his legal defenses, or else they are next.
What USA is doing is a lighter version of what CCP is doing, but with larger budget, reach and better PR. Many western nations who are pretending to be lands of freedom sure do aspire to be China. The good thing is populations in these countries are only willing to give up so many freedoms at once. Over time things could change.
That is only few of them. Matthew lived in China for 10 years. He has real experience living with the people. He traveled around the country in a motorbike. He knows what he is talking about:
Typical country there. It seems they're no different than the US with respect to richer and poorer communities.
The US will succeed in its endeavor to reach CCP control of its communities. It's just a matter of time unless they can be stopped legislatively. There are way too many distractions to get US citizens to see reality. The Johnny Depp and Amber Heard circus is just one example.
At least that circus is exposing some real issues men face regarding domestic violence and divorce. Media is good at finding things to distract people. They might even spin up another disease fear into the mix.

It already seems forgotten from the mass consciousness because we had a flu turned into a psychotic paranoia and a war that could have been avoided with better diplomacy and halting of military expansionism. Another odd thing was around the time of murder of Epstein, there was the case of Sushant Singh Rajput which was spinned as a suicide despite having so many evidence against it. It is possible he was murdered for the things he knew. It is hard to know what truly happened in these cases because there will hardly eve be a full investigation. People don't seem to care after the initial days of hashtags.
One thing I'm proud of HIVE and cryptocurrency/privacy community in general is that people hardly give up. We HODL, develop and improve things over time.
