You can always rely on members of a precious metals community to have, ummm... well!!, precious metals for sale. So when a community member hit me up to say he had over 400g of junk(you Yanks call it constitutional)silver, i snapped his hands off.
Our own @monsterjamgold is a bit of a wheeler dealer when it comes to all things metalic, precious and shiny. In fact, im pretty sure and confident in saying that it is actually his day job. Hes never let me down, and when he offers it to you at "spot" I just cant say no to the man.
The best part is that hes a fellow Brit, and i dontbhave to pay any of that import tax and VAT the government slaps on my imports from North America of Europe. Which mea s theres more money for the "money"...
It was a double delivery day today, when my son 1/2 pints pokemon cards turned up at the same time. So now were both happy.
Short history lesson: silver coins stopped being minted for general circulation in 1946. Coins minted between 1920 and 1946 contained 50% silver. Coins predating 1920 are made from 925 sterling silver. Everything 1947 and onwards are made from the cheap metal cupro-nickel.
The coins i bought range from 1922 to 1945 so are all made from 50% silver.
Comparing these to a 1oz silver Canadian Maple coin you can really get to see and appreciate how much silver was floating around in circulation pre the change to cupro-nickel coinage. It also shows why coinage was the way it was - the coins value was based on the amount of silver or gold it had in it. Not just the number it has printed on the front.

The Canadian Maple coin is really a nice coin.
It really feels nice when having these lovely silver coins.
Nice additions to the collection!

I got a few of those ,but most my junk is Canadian I'm glad I found a new coin shop they have more international stuff that's where I got my British junk coins
Sounds like they got a head start removing precious metals from coinage with copper nickel after 1947 .
I thought we had a bad when they pulled silver in 1964.... Well at least 90% coinage Lol😇
I love it @welshstacker!
