After asking everyone which coin they thought was the most undervalued older coin in the crypto space, I found the enthusiasm for BAT to be wide-spread. I get it. I've always liked this project, I use Brave on my phone, and I think it's one of the more interesting use cases of crypto so far. They're also a project that seems to have delivered on multiple-fronts, both in development, and in getting the word out about their project. I'd argue that it's one of the 5 most well-known crypto projects. I know people who don't even care about crypto who use the Brave browser.
So I've been discussing BAT with various people these few days since so many of them brought it up when I asked that question.
It seems that we all like Brave, we like the whole concept, but none of us know many people we can support with the BAT we earn. I bet us Hive users aren't the only ones. I heard @leofinance accepts BAT as do some other front ends. That's awesome, I would like to throw some their way.
But that issue of not having many people to donate BAT to got me thinking...
Wouldn't BAT and Hive be a match made in heaven?
Think about it. BAT has this wonderful token model but so far very few people accepting BAT. Here we have a community full of content creators with a one week payout limit. After that our posts don't earn anything. Peakd has implemented this tip system. What if we could tip people on Hive with BAT as well, either on individual posts or in a patreon-like system of monthly support? The more ways to tip, the better, right?
I imagine as Hive users we could sign up for BAT directly, or through our favorite front ends and share 5-10% of our BAT earnings with them. We could choose to receive the donations in BAT, Hive, Leo, Lotus, or any SMT/hive based token of our choice, or ideally a combination of our choosing.
This would benefit BAT by given their users more choices for how to use their BAT and by creating a template for how other platforms can collaborate with BAT, and it would benefit us by giving us more ways to earn on our posts, and by really getting Hive's name out there. I believe the network effect would be tremendous, not only for Hive and BAT, but for crypto in general. It could be what a Tron partnership COULD have been if it hadn't been so one-sided and scammy. Two established projects working together to create a more dynamic more decentralized community. I think many Brave users would be very pleased with the Hive community, and we could easily come up with ways to make this deal more attractive for BAT/Brave with the talent and devotion of this community. I imagine they will already be willing to work with us as soon as they see we are a real community, after all, I'm sure they want adoption, and we are not HUGE, but I believe they will see our potential.
Now this is just an idea I'm throwing out there. I don't have any plans to work on a project, I don't know how to go about contacting BAT, I don't have any idea what kind of tech would be required or who would be able to develop it. It does not seem like a very tall order though, I've seen Hive members achieve much greater feats than what would be required to get this done.
I have a lot on my plate between starting my own business and running Hive Cross Culturebut I'd love to help some developers or people with the connections to contact BAT conceptualize this and to spread awareness within the community if anyone else wants to take it on as their project. If someone wants to rip it off and do it themselves without my input, I guess I won't complain, just put me on your autovote ;-P I'll be happy if I can recieve BAT for my Hive posts and I'll be happy when the network effect brings 10x as many people to Hive.
I realize we can do tipping and patreon style support within our own ecosystem but creating this kind of partnership would broaden our reach and doesn't have to stop us from developing and continuing to use those systems within our own ecosystem! This is how we reach a wider audience.

I'd love to see a BAT integration. Personally I need more places to use BAT because I don't want to do their KYC to withdraw tokens. If they could be tipped on Hive, they could be then converted into anything else with no need for KYC. Awesome idea.
i know what you mean. i don't really mind doing kyc but i like the idea of tipping each other and this creates more of a flow from outside hive onto hive and also solves the problem you mentioned which i feel many brave users have

That's right! We can use Twitter to make more relationships with other projects and potential users... at first I was a little skeptical about the effectiveness of your tactics but since you started your project I feel a lot more enthusiasm and cohesiveness in the hive community at Twitter. It feels like people are supporting each other there to reach more people outside the community. Very nice!
I think its an idea worth considering. I personally dont know much about BAT, other then the fact I use their browser on a daily bases (laptop mainly). I also think a Patreon like model is also something to consider. Actually, with regards to Patreon, a collaboration between Patreon and HIVE os definitely something to consider.
We can do all of this within the hive ecosystem, but partnerships will open us up to a wider audience and could create more hive users out of BAT users and more BAT users out of Hive users
I do agree with you completely. Partnering maybe the only way for HIVE to become relevant. Thats what I meant with Patreon; Partnering with that service would be so super cool! :)

Lol welllll Iduno how it would work. They might ask us to do kyc to receive our bat but at least we’d be able to give bat as tips to hive users who do kyc
Collaboration such as this will definitely be inevitable. I love BAT and I believe they've done well with their model I only feel it'll happen maybe not just soonest.
it'll happen if we make it. Hive doesn't have a CEO, we are the CEO. I'm not good with tech and I don't know as many people in the industry as a lot of others here, so I am spreading this idea, but once there are some tech people or front-ends who agree with this idea we can start to spread it on twitter and see if we can get their attention
it would be awesome if we could do that, be a nice project for someone with some coding skills to work on the integration!
I'm thinking maybe we pitch it to the front ends and maybe they'd be interested in getting the ball rolling and might know how to make it easy and seamless? Peakd gets shit done

I had a look at braves roadmap somewhere and I saw they wanted to launch like a GDN style network where sites could support advertisers inventory but I don't know how far that got. I think that HIVE would be a great test should they eventually get there. they don;t yet have a dynamic auction market yet, you still have to manually put in ad bids with their team, so it could still be part of a bigger upgrade
Sure! We just need to get to know more of their community and start talking about it where they can see it and where the hive devs can see it
I agree, maybe start by creating a board on their community chat and then adding some questions and requests
Given that it seems that they want to build bridges to this, that and the other thing it's probably something that might happen or at least get on the radar eventually, it's just a matter of who wants to work on it? :)
