Above all, a Sleeper car is a completely Stock car on the outside, although with major mechanical modifications, they are generally used for racing. Personally I consider that the maximum and best expression of Sleeper Car that exists is The Farmtruck. A simple old truck ..

Although it is only on the outside, because under its large hood it keeps a beautiful and huge aluminum engine with a 4-port carburetor capable of delivering between 2000 and 3000 horsepower by itself not counting the extra that a bottle of Nitro. This is basically a Sleeper Car, a very normal car on the outside and a beast on the inside. There is no Spanish translation, it is something similar to "sleeping car" or something similar.

So, starting from that base, I would like to do things similar to a Fiat 126, originally it has a rear engine, air cooled and only 2 cylinders, it is basically a motorcycle. I would like not only to change the engine, but to completely change the entire configuration for various reasons.

The first thing to take into account would be to place the engine in the front, the image above is only to show that if you can, although I already said that would be an exaggeration, I do not want it to race, although the Sleeper Cars are originally used for that, I think they could be used in another way. And if you wonder about the storage space, rather placing the engine in the front we would be creating a trunk, since the factory in the front brings the spare tire, battery, containers for water and one for oil If I remember correctly, there was no space left, the factory did not have space to store, so when moving everything forward, the spare tire could enter the back and there would still be space.

Ford F150 Eco

I would like to use as close as possible to the engine and box of the Ford F150, because its efficiency and durability is already well proven. Although I am a fan of Chevrolet, I have to admit that at least in my country Ford parts are easier to get, not to mention that they are manufactured to move at least 2000 kg without adding load, so it would be a plus since it could be to revolutionize too much to move 600 kg, another thing would be that in general these vans are automatic box.

Fiat 126 - Interior

And although I like a manual box much more, it would be a matter of space, I would have to modify the floor to make room for the box and in itself the space is reduced despite being quite empty, as it is automatic, there would be a pedal, giving important centimeters for such modification.

Travel

The reason why I would like an F150 engine is that it would have almost completely assured a great torque, perfect for long trips with a small trailer or simply to climb a mountain without representing a significant effort from the engine. And if consumption is something that worries you, remember that they are made to move large amounts of weight, moving only 600 kg would be quite easy and would not represent a large consumption.

All this without losing the agility of a small car, since it would mostly be used in the city. And believe it or not, I am not a type of race, it is just that, regretting it a lot in my country like many other Latin American countries, having horsepower under the engine sometimes becomes life insurance, being able to quickly reach the 150 km / h to escape from a motorcycle becomes a fundamental requirement.

Fiat 126 - Tunning

For those who like it, it could also be personalized and become a little more sporty, although it would lose the Sleeper Car style. Everyone knows that I have been working in my spare time on a small semi-electric car based on pvc and actually I do believe in the idea and if I like it a lot, although originally it was an idea that arose out of necessity, another thing that is not available in my country is gasoline, so basically in an ideal world, my dream would be a Sleeper Car, preferably a Fiat 126 .

Fiat 126 - Original

Fiat 126 - Original

How much would my dream cost in my country, Venezuela? Let's do the math. Starting from the fact that the Fiat 126 is considered a classic, the base car would cost between $ 1500 to $ 2500, this obviously in perfect condition, which I don't need, so you could say that for $ 1000 if not less, you could get it. a specimen in poor condition perfect to destroy and rearm.

Engine and box? According to my research, you can get practically unused ready-to-run engines for $ 2,000 to $ 3,000. the transmissions between 1500 to 2000 $. All depending on the model and kilometers made, although they are basically taken from cars that have had accidents from the rear and for one reason or another it is more expensive to repair them then they sell their parts. Let's say that with $ 5000 you can get an engine, box and the necessary parts to anchor it to the new car.

Then it would be necessary to work on the suspension and general reinforcement of the chassis. A roll cage would not hurt, so we could say that approximately $ 3000 more

At the moment we would already have $ 9000 invested in our little Sleeper Car. Now comes the interesting thing, despite the fact that all our modifications are going to be completely legal, carried out with professionalism and all the safety measures and respecting all the necessary traffic requirements, THE REVIEW WILL NOT PASS! Basically because I live in a corrupt country, then you have to put $ 1000 in the budget to pay someone in transit to give you an autograph and you can get all the papers.

To finish, all this taking into account that we would only do the mechanical part and that we have all the necessary tools, I personally do not have a set of keys, so I made a sum well above the basic necessary tools. Welding machine, set of keys, emery boards, drills, assembly table, sewing machine for interiors, maybe a small lathe, paint gun ... let's say that there we will go about $ 3000 more and between paint and interior a few 2000 $ more.

In total, for me to have the car of my dreams I would need to have an approximate of $ 15,000 in my possession, many contacts, at least 3 months of free time, a suitable space to work without disturbing anyone or being disturbed and in the end surely I couldn't use it because I wouldn't even get gasoline for a 300km trip.

Sort:

I like the way you have planned it but I am from Venezuela and the closest thing I have seen is the fiat 147 (toucan or spazio) in fact I had one and only with its 5 speed transmission it flew.
I am a mechanic and I consider that the times for the adaptation are a little short but it is nothing that an adjustment to your planning will not correct.
God grant you to materialize your dream.
very good post greetings.

This is like an epic story, never ending to make it a dream. Thanks for sharing

hahaha well the truth would be very epic for me, although to be honest my knowledge of mechanics is very basic, I am just that type of person who if he says he will do something does not stop, and if we imagine that money or time is not problem the sky is the limit.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, that is valuable to me. A greeting and a hug :D

Wow! A Fiat 126 with a Ford F150 engine - that's bold 😊 Thank you for sharing your dream car with us @randomproject123 Please keep sharing your car posts with us - I am interested to see what you look at next. Annabelle.

Delighted to continue publishing, I loved the community, I have as a rule not to publish more than once a week in each community and thus not feel that I am spamming, although without a doubt you will see me here again, a pleasure to be part of it. Greetings and thank you very much for evaluating my work :D

Feel free to post whenever you have something automotive to share, we will support you, thank you @randomproject123

Genial.
