Sunday Funday: Wining and dining with top Latin American chefs.

in Weekend Experienceslast year (edited)

gm frens!

It's Sunday Funday! my favorite day of the weekend to go out with some amazing chef friends and celebrate life in the city. Why do we like to go out on Sundays? well, as it turns out, we've become friends with a lot of chefs in our area and they tend to keep their restaurants closed on Mondays. So going out on Sunday is like having an extra Saturday!! how cool!

Any good Sunday Funday must start with refreshing beverages, so let's get to it.
Garçon! please bring a round of Aperol Spritz and a couple of mescal grapefruit palomas!

That's the spirit!

Of course, when hanging out with world-class chefs, one must be on their best behavior and display table manners at all times.

Let me scoop that orange slice out of my drink and stuff it in my mouth.

delicious! and refreshing

next up on the beverage front: some Caprice Du Chameau. This is a white wine produced by La Vrille et le Papillon winery in Vin de Pays, France. They've gone ahead and chilled it...

And poured it for us.

A little about today's outing

The amazing Peter Meng jr. is a guest chef today at San Roman Rooftop Terrace, which is owned and operated by our friend, award-winning chef Sergio Diaz. Sergio was recently ranked a top 50 Latin American chef with the downstairs high-end restaurant Sublime: Sergio Díaz is ranked 31st in Latin Americas 50 Best

They both just came back from the award ceremony in Mérida, Mexico which looked like one hell of a party.

Here are some highlights fo the event:

The Sublime dining experience, as you can imagine, is a work of art in and of itself (visually and otherwise).

Aaaaaaand there they are! 🙌

Peter Meng is seated with the flowered shirt and Sergio Diaz is standing, with a black shirt and drinking wine.

Well, we came here to eat, didn't we?

Let's put Peter to work. One of Peter's beach restaurants is called Sal De Mar(in Spanish it means sea salt). It's located on a surf town called El Paredón on the Pacific coast of Guatemala. Since it's a beach restaurant, a lot the dishes are made with sea food, and that's the menu he'll be promoting today at San Roman rooftop terrace.

As a guest chef today, he set up shop in an outside cooking area right next to us. Of course I had to come over and watch him do his magic.

We started off with a smoked fish ceviche with corn tortilla chips.

The dish had grapefruit, cardamom seeds, seaweed and horseradish.

Oh, will you look at that! the match started. time for more wine!

This time we'll be going with María Rosé. This is a natural rosé wine produced by Agrícola Macatho winery in the south of Chile. It's made from Pinot Noir grapes and is best served chilled.

It was a pretty clear day, so they opened up the retractable roof to let in some fresh air and get a nice view of sky and surrounding neighborhood called Zone 14. Lots of buildings in this area. Lots of amazing penthouses too. Let me take some photos of the hood for you:

These two towers here are the Tiffany buildings:

1000 mts2 of construction, double height with windows floor to ceilling.

Yeah, fit for the rich and famous. Maybe I'll move in here if my portfolio takes off for the next bull run 🚀 haha! for now I'll have to settle for looking at them from my spot at San Roman!

How come kicking back and having a good time can be so easy? 😄

Dunno 🤷‍♂️

But let's keep enjoying it shall we?

Sal De Mar's menu is a bit on the light side today, which is perfect.
We ordered some pork salad with rinds and fresh tomatoes. The pork is nice and soft on the inside but a bit crunchy on the outside.

Absolutely delicious!

Spain scored a goal against Germany!

And Germany scored a goal against Spain!

I'm a fan of Argentina myself, but hey, we can celebrate these amazing goals, right? :)

Yessir, Let's keep celebrating!

We'll move on to some Calendas tempranillo. This is a red Spanish wine from the Navarra region. This one is also a natural wine and very easy to drink.

It's so refreshing to hang out with good friends on the #weekend. Especially if they're into eating and drinking wine and cocktails. I admire their dedication to the culinary arts, but most of all, I admire how much they enjoy what they do.

Can't wait to do it again.

Hope you're having an awesome weekend full of amazing #weekendexperiences :)

se ya!
