My Sunday walk around the city of Pyatigorsk

Hello, my friends!

Today my story will be about how I spent my day off in the city of Pyatigorsk.

Pyatigorsk is a resort town in the Caucasian Mineral Waters.
There are many sanatoriums in the city.

People with various illnesses come to the resort to improve their health with the help of natural forces. Mineral water, sun, fresh air help treat diseases.

The city of Pyatigorsk is very rich in sights!

Today I will tell my friends a little about a beautiful park called "Flower Garden".
And I’ll also show you a very unusual lake called "Failure"!

On Sunday morning, I took a taxi to Pyatigorsk.

From my town to Pyatigorsk is not far away. Travel time is only 30 minutes.

I wanted to buy fresh food on the local market.

But before visiting the market, I decided to take a walk along the terrencures in the "Flower Garden" Park and walk to the interesting cave lake "Failure".

The "Flower Garden" Park is a resort park. It is located on the slopes of Mount Mashuk.

People who rest and are treated in the sanatoriums of the city of Pyatigorsk, very much like to walk along the alleys of the park.

The cathedral of the Pyatigorsk Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church sparkles with its golden domes in the "Flower Garden" Park.

The cathedral was built in honor of Christ the Savior.

We’re entering the temple courtyard.

We admire the beautiful flower beds of Spassky Cathedral...

These are the bells!

Anyone can ring the bells in the cathedral’s courtyard.

Dogs often rest on the church porch!

For some reason they liked this place 😍

It’s beautiful inside Spassky Cathedral!

8.jpg

The mural of the cathedral is gorgeous!

But I’m not going to go into the details of the temple icons right now.

I’ll tell you about them some other time!
Okay?

After visiting the Spassky Cathedral, I'm moving on!

There are very beautiful flower beds in the "Flower Garden" park!

Landscape designers combine different shades of color.
As a result, they get bright flower arrangements.

Look at how beautiful it is!

1._.jpg

And here is a small flower bed with an agave in the center.

2._.jpg

It’s a colorful star of flowers!

For some reason, the southern resorts like to plant these big plants on the flower beds, which look like aloe.

Same thick, juicy leaves.

In the "Flower Garden" Park there is a Memorial of military glory with an Eternal flame.

3._.jpg

In the photo - Eternal fire in memory of the people of Pyatigorsk who died during the Great Patriotic War.

Here, young army soldiers always stand at an honorary post.
But today, for some reason, I did not meet these children.

I’m going up the alleys of Resort Park.

In one of the corners of the park recently placed a monument to our Caucasian hero of the Patriotic War of 1812 General Yermolov Alexey Petrovich.

4._.jpg

A hero on his fighting horse!

5._.jpg

Then on my way, there was this little decorative waterfall.

7._.jpg

But today I was unlucky... the waterfall didn’t get the water running...

Usually the waterfall has a very beautiful view - water jets flowing down a stone wall.

I climb the path all the way up!

8_.jpg

Terrenkur leads me to the famous lake «Failure» in Pyatigorsk!

Terrenkur is mostly laid with the usual tile, which is full on sidewalks of all Russian cities.

The Pyatigorsk terrenkur has its own peculiarities.

For example, stairs with steps made of natural material. Local stone travertine.

This is what they look like.

6._.jpg

This travertine stone is mined on Mount Mashuk.

There are many sanatoriums around terrencourt.

I pass by them and read the names on the signs – "Swallow", Sanatorium named after Kirov", "Spring", "Dawns of Stavropol", "Don", military sanatorium…

Vacationers come out of the gates of sanatoriums.

All these holiday-makers are so relaxed, happy, joyful – they have a vacation at the resort of Caucasian Mineral Waters!

I even envy them a little…

Vacationers can drink mineral water at least every day, walk along beautiful shady terrains, breathe fresh air, go to the mountains of the Elbrus region, Dombay, Arkhyz…

I note with interest how the appearance of vacationers differs depending on the category of the sanatorium.

Mostly fat, tanned aunts come out of the" Don "or" Zorya Stavropol". They are dressed in sweatpants, bright T-shirts, Chinese sneakers.

In the hands of the aunts - a necessary attribute-a stick for Nordic walking.

It is understandable - these sanatoriums are intended for recreation and treatment of residents-farmers, from the villages of the region, as well as the whole of Russia

But from the Pyatigorsk Central Military Sanatorium - another contingent of vacationers is already coming to the city 😁

These are our valiant servicemen and their family members.

Uncles-officers look funny without military uniforms.

Today, for some reason, I met vacationers from a military sanatorium in shorts.

Their mandatory attributes are no longer sticks, but expensive cameras around their necks.

I was carried away by the description of vacationers in the sanatoriums of Pyatigorsk...😉

I see small fountains on the way to the lake «Failure». They have extraordinary sculptures.

As I was approaching lake «Failure», I noticed an interesting new monument for me.

I’ve never seen him before...

The monument is located away from the terrencourt.

I couldn't understand who this sculpture was created in honor of.

For some reason, it seemed that this is a monument to the Russian writer Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol…

I had to get off the path and look the man in the face.

It turns out that the Soviet writer Sergei Mikhalkov is depicted in the sculpture!

dsc00082.jpg

This monument was opened quite recently – in March 2020.

The poet Sergei Mikhalkov lived in Pyatigorsk as a child. Here the poet's literary activity began.

Many people know Sergei Mikhalkov as the author of the anthem of the Soviet Union.

And someone still reads to his children "Uncle Stepa-the policeman" - this is also S. Mikhalkov!

And now, finally, I'm coming to a Failure!

This is a very interesting natural object!

The lake is extremely popular with tourists and vacationers.

Several sightseeing buses, packed with curious holiday-makers, passed by me.

I will tell you a little about the lake itself.

Failure – why is the name of the lake?

It's just that the lake is located at the bottom of the cave, and the cave itself is located on the slope of Mount Mashuk.

Mount Mashuk is the hallmark of Pyatigorsk.
We have a favorite mountain Beshtau in Lermontov and Zheleznovodsk.

And in the city of Pyatigorsk, the main mountain is Mashuk.

Local historians of the Caucasian Mineral Waters believe that once upon a time, salty and pungent mineral waters flowed along the slopes of Mount Mashuk.

As a result of salt exposure, the water washed the soil of the mountain slope.

This erosion took place for a long time – very many years, and maybe even centuries.

Thus, a cave of natural origin was formed.

Later, a lake appeared at the bottom of the cave, called the Sinkhole.

The height of this cave is about 40 meters!
The diameter of the lake itself is 15 meters.

And the depth is solid!
Of course, not the Mariana Trench, but, according to researchers, lake «Failure» has a depth of 8 to 11 meters.

It is noteworthy that the water in the Sinkhole is very saturated with hydrogen sulfide.

From this, there is a smell in the cave that is unpleasant for an unusual person, for example, a Muscovite holiday-maker. This is the smell of a slightly rotten egg 😕

And in the waters of the lake there are some interesting bacteria that give color to the water.

It is not completely transparent, but has a milky blue color!

Here's a look at the photos for yourself.

dsc00080.jpg

It feels like it's not water, but milk in the lake… Or a white cloud…

Some tourists, seeing the milky blue color of the water, are surprised, they do not believe that this is a natural color, and not some artificial illumination of the lake.

But there is no deception-this is such water!

In general, it's very beautiful inside the cave!

A lake with an unusual milky-blue shade of water, around the lake there is a terracotta-colored rock.

Swallows fly over the vaults of the grotto... The smell of rotten eggs 😁

In a special niche in the rock above the surface of the lake, there is an icon of the Mother of God "Joy to All who are grieving".

dsc00079.jpg

Now I will tell you about another attraction of the lake "Failure".

This is a sculpture of the Great Combinator Ostap Bender!
The hero of the novel by Ilf and Petrov "Twelve Chairs".

So, this literary hero was captured in bronze at the entrance to the tunnel of the lake Failure.

Ostap sells tickets 😁

dsc00078.jpg

Next to the sculpture of Ostap Bender – bronze lions!

dsc00081.jpg

Not far from Ostap there is a sculpture of another hero of the novel "The Twelve Chairs" - Kisa Vorobyaninov.

dsc00084.jpg

Kisa Vorobyaninov is the same fraudster as Ostap Bender.
Here he collects alms in his hat.

Pay attention to the nose of Kisa Vorobyaninov!

Do you see that your nose is shiny?

These are tourists rubbing the sculpture in the nose area 😁

There is a superstition that if you rub your nose, you will definitely return to this place!

Tourists want to return to our beautiful city of Pyatigorsk!

I am finishing my story about a Sunday walk in the resort city of Pyatigorsk!
Did you like it?

Мне очень понравилось гулять по Пятигорску! Красивый город!

Спасибо!

It looks so beautiful there. We don't see or hear much about your part of the world in America. I've learned a lot from the YouTuber Bald and Bankruptwho's traveled to many former Soviet countries.

Thanks for the comment!
You inspire me to write more about Russia!
I’ll continue the stories. 😍

You're welcome! I would love to visit someday. I'm looking forward to reading more!
