Weekend-engagement topic week 31: Bucket list destination or activity

in Weekend Experiences3 years ago (edited)

Friday means the weekend and the weekend means the weekend-engagement topic...So here it is! It's time to engage and win some hive folks...All for a comment! There's no complicated rules about reposting, following, tagging, dropping links in Discord servers and all that rubbish...Just comment for your chance to win hive. So here we go...

With travel being off the agenda for most over the last year and into this one I thought it would be nice to do a travel subject this week. It should be a fairly easy topic for most to answer as we all tend to have bucket list travel destinations and activities right?

Bucket list:

A number of experiences or achievements a person hopes to have and accomplish, or places they'd like to go, during their lifetime.

weekend-engagement week 31 topic

What is your bucket list destination of activity and why

It doesn't get any easier than this folks. Simply tell us what destination or activity is on your bucket list of things to do before you die and explain your answer. Tell us why it's on your list. You can add a photo if you like too as that would be a cool way to punctuate your comment.

You need to put your answer below in the comments field and don't just drop a link to a post you've done - That's not how this works.

If you want to do an actual post around this topic feel free to place it in the Engage the weekend Community as I'll be curating in there all weekend and drumming up some support for the posts.

I'll be handing out some free hive to some of you who comment below so make sure you stick around and engage with other hivers - It's a great place to meet new people and open up relationships - If you're a larger account you may like to show some support too, and everyone is welcome to share this post to get it in front of some of the newer members of the community which will give them a chance to wine some hive for a simple comment.

You have until Sunday night your time to get your comment posted below and all weekend to engage and comment with others! Engagement is how accounts grow so if you know someone who wants to grow let them know about this post and give them a chance to put themselves on other people's radar

Have a great weekend y'all...Now get engaged!

Design and create your ideal life, don't live it by default - Tomorrow isn't promised.

Be well

I have a lot of places on my bucket list.

Zero down just one or two would be difficult...

However, I would like to travel to Morocco, and Lithuania... (* and.. Japan, Russia, Brazil, Chile, South Pole and so many more places in between lol (*the Maldives, yes)).

let's talk about Morocco, why? I have stood on the top of mountains, in jungles, along coastlines, and out at sea... Besides the occasional sand dune, I have not been in the deep desert. I think traveling out into the sand dunes, beyond the lights of the city, to camp underneath the clear sky and gaze upon the stars while laying in a sea of sand... This must be a truly magical experience. Morocco always seemed like a good place to do this, I was looking for while to do a working way program in north-west India where they have a desert, however Covid... so, I am here in Vietnam at the moment. However, the desert, and Morocco they call to me.

Let's talk about Lithuania. Why? My great grandparents are from Lithuania, everyone on my mom side and half my dad side. So there is the idea of visiting my homeland, seeing the beautiful countryside's and the cities. Beyond this given the timeframe in which my great-grandmother left, I could technically go to Lithuania and claim my birthright as a citizen. So beyond just visiting this amazing country with very happy people and the oldest spoken language in the world, it would be to potentially get a dual citizenship in the country.

These two places are high in my bucket list!

  • What about you?

Thank you @trangbaby for the tag! You are an inspiration!

Wonderful...!! Much appreciated it Tim. 😍
All places in your bucket list sound great. I don't often hear about Morocco & Lithuania to be honest (don't laugh at me 🤣🤣heheee) until I read your description and reason why these two are high in your bucket list. I immediately do a research about them and pictures shown on MR Google Images, oh wow just amazinnnnnnn and I'm sure there more interesting things such as cultures, history, language or people,...that we all want to learn and explore.
Do you know that there are sand dunes in Vietnam? Just sand dunes not deep desert 🤣 That we can take a tour from HCM city, I havent been here so not sure how it looks like 😆😆

I would love to go see the sand dunes in Vietnam! I hope after the rainy season to take a few weeks to a month and do heavy traveling in Vietnam!

Let’s do it. I hope the the rainy season will end soon after Tet Holiday just a good time to hit the road. The weather in The Central of VN this year 😭😭 been storming and raining for months and cold now 🥶 You know I’m a weather person, I’m happy under the sun and moody under the Rain 😂 Rain is good sometimes but pls not lasts for months 😃 So wet !!

Fuck Yea!
But at this rate, I think they rainy season will last FOR EVER... HAHAHA

You really need to come visit here. I did some roof repair on my house in early March. I have some ceiling repair to do that was caused by leakage. We haven't had any rain since March so I don't know if I'm done on the roof and can proceed with the ceiling repair :)

Whoa I want to go there now...take me....!!! I'm starving for The Sun to shine on me 😊

It is always sunny here. We average more 'sun days' than anyplace on earth. The average is over 364 days that get at least 2 hours of full sun :)

I've had several years where I rode my motorcycle every single day.

@trangbaby , how beautiful sand dunes in Vietnam 😍

Thank you @mipiano, I haven’t been there— that’s in the photo not sure how it is in the reality 😄😀

Ah yes... reality vs perception ... it some times is a hard one.

https://www.pinterest.com/cdo99/reality-vs-perception/

hahaaa oh yea 😆

Morocco and Lithuania...Nice choices and great reasons too! Out of those two I'd be more keen to see Morocco but both would have much to offer.

What about you?

I also have many and many places I'd like to go back to but one on my bucket list I haven't yet made it to is Machu Picchu in Peru. I like history and have been fortunate enough to visit many interesting places but haven't yet delved into the Incan civilisation and what better place to do so than at the epicentre of their world. I've heard it's very touristy now but I'd brave the people to go, just to wander about and soak it in.

There's many other places of course, I could write a book on the places and experiences I want to have and see.

Thanks for joining in this week, your first time I think. I hope you hang around to engage with others and come back again in subsequent weeks.

!ENGAGE 25

Machu Picchu in Peru YEA! That would be a most epic adventure to see.. I hear the hike up the mountain is a challenge but when you get there it's well worth it. Someone also told me that they will be limiting the amount of people allowed into Machu Picchu soon to reduce the strain on the site caused by tourism... I hope you can make it soon!

Yes, the trek is a little strenuous but I'm up for it, I've done some pretty hard treks in my day...My 50 year old body is up for it I think...And yes I hope I can make it before it's closed off completely. Although, I don't think it's a bad thing to limit visitors...Preserving places like that is so important.

Ohhhhh.. Machu Picchu. Yes please.

I'm really interested in the civilizations of the Americas. Really interested.

Like when that lost dickhead Columbus arrived the largest city in the world was thought to be London. It wasn't, it would have been no better than 5th in the Western Hemisphere.

Hey big fella, good to see you around!

I agree man, those civilisations were so advanced and structured; Mega cities really, and then gone. Weird right? I'm fascinated in knowing why. How they lived and thought and what their decline was like. I remember a movie called Apocalypto...2006. It's about the decline of the Mayans. Brutal and unforgiving but engrossing.

You know me and history man...And people say they wouldn't know what to do with a big lottery win! I know what I'd be doing.

Machu Pichu in Peru is definitely an amazing place on my must-visit list. Actually, I'd love to visit some of the ancient monuments from most of the civilizations before the Spanish landed there. Mayans, Aztecs, and so on.

It's an interesting part of history and somewhat of a mystery even now I think. Have you seen that movie Apocalypto? It's about the demise of the Mayan civilization and the way they tried to stave it off through human sacrifice etc. Pretty interesting.

I'll have to watch it, thank you.
I've seen some of the documentaries on Blowing up History at Dmax Channel and the ones on South America are some of my favorites.

Yep, seen some too...Fascinating...And they feed my desire to see things for myself.

,,and Lithuania.''
It is good to know that others want to visit my country.

it's in my blood, I would love to see the country of my ancestors! where in Lithuania do you live?

Close to Kaunas.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

I would love to go to Morocco too, have you been yet? Reading your words, seemed like you're experienced.

I've heard mixed reviews about Morocco and how they would generally accept foreigners who don't look like them. What do you think? Are they an accepting culture?

I am glad you explained about Lithuania, at first I was like, what, why!? :0)

ahahaha. Not everybody understands wearing a kilt, either. :) Just sayin'.

I've been to the.sahara desert in Morocco.. it was truly wonderful!!!!

I think Morocco would be a great place to visit just as you described, get out of town and lay under and watch the stars. When it is dark in Alaska it is also pretty dang cold, I know deserts at night can get cold, but not quite as cold as an Alaskan Night so a night under the stars in Morocco would be fun.

I love the desert that I live in (Sonora) and two others that are relatively near by (Mojave and Great Basin). The ability to be alone is nearly unequaled anyplace I know. Our desert is more hard rock and compact sand, (we have some magnificent dunes) but I know lots of place where the is not a light to be seen from sundown to sun up.

The dual citizenship idea is rather amazing to me. I love that you have a path to pursue if you choose to. Very cool.

I've been to Morocco only once, and never to Lithuania.
It was a business trip about 8 years ago, just a couple of days, but I loved the culture, the food, and just the walks around Rabat the few hours I had of free time. Going there for a longer leisure trip has been in my mind for quite a while, and considering I live in Spain, I may just do so after the planet recovers from this pandemic situation.

I'd love to go to Morocco but I'm afraid I would get myself in trouble. I would love to go out in the desert where the Polisario Front is in control and take photos but there is too many ways that could end badly.

I've been in the Lithuanian Embassy to the United States in Washington DC but that's the closest I've come to visiting the country although it sounds like a lovely place to visit. Definitely didn't know that it had the oldest spoken language, thank you for that bit of info!

Ah the South Pole. That’s an interesting one! I’ve learned that over the past many years all kinds of American politicians have traveled there. They have guards posted all over the place to make sure you don’t wander off. For your safety they claim but is it really? Just something kind provoking to think about!

Hey guys 👋 Happy upcoming Weekend 😀

Thanks galenkp for the topic, at least we could daydream a bit and visualize the destinations where we would like to go...after...some time 😁

So, first of all I would like to explore more the north of Europe, as I have never visited the Scandinavian part and the Baltic states.

Observe the phenomena of Aurora Borealis..

Spend some years in Italy...

New Zealand..if there would be teleport...

Ah yes, the Northern Lights are also on my bucket list...Such an amazing spectacle. I've been to Finland but that's it, not the rest of Scandinavia...We were booked and paid up to go in 2020 to visit my family there and to see some of Scandinavia itself but...Well you know. Covid.

We've been to Italy a couple times...Well worth it so I hope you get there...And New Zealand? Well, if you're going there you might as well come to Australia too!

!ENGAGE 25

We have been to Italy several times as well, however, I would like to spend there any time needed (months, years.?)to go across the whole country, town to town.

So Northern Lights is also on your bucket list. 👍 When the whole covid stuff is over, and you visit your family in Finland, you will be closer to Aurora Borealis.

Yep, we're hoping to be able to go next year as this year looks out of the question. We had it all pad for Nd had to wIth 8 months for all our refunds...I don't want to go through that again and it looks like the pandemic situation isn't looking so good at the moment. Who knows how it will go?

Italy is awesome though and we'll go back too. So many great places and memories. We've spent a lot of time in Tuscany, Firenze and surrounding areas. So special.

8 months for the refund...oh. Seems that all the companies waited such long time for the refund.

My husband bought a flight to Hamburg in February.. the flying company returned the money in December 🤦🏻‍♀️

I think they did that for a couple reasons...Earning interest and the sheer time it took to process the cases. Oh well, at least it came back right?

Yes, at least. We know that it was not a pleasant thing for them, and the number of flights is so so reduced now. So at one side I can understand

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Those Northern Lights were a stop of ours too. We were in the UK this time last year for a 7 month lockdown with 5 more countries on the list for a total of 18 before returning home. Needless to say, we missed the last 5, Iceland was one of them.

Booooooo!!!!

Oh, so many plans had to be changed 😔

Which counties you achieved to visit? And which ones have you missed?

Well this cool, thank you for asking! We left California in December 2017 and were kicked back to the US August first this year, we're currently in Tennessee awaiting these travel gates to reopen. This should also be the proper order..

Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Peru, Chile.
Then we flew across the Atlantic
England, Wales, Scotland, Greece, Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Italy.

We were in Italy, February 2020, when this happened. Not sure if you've ever been to Italy but it's without a doubt the last place either myself or my wife will be restrained so we got tf outta there as quickly as possible, got tickets to the UK, and figured we'd wait it out in England.

Well, needless to say.. we were there a lot longer than we anticipated.

Missed: Iceland, Amsterdam, Hungary, Czech, and France. Next time

Wow, that is great that you could do your trip to all those countries. I hope you will be able to finish your wish list one day.

Well, needless to say.. we were there a lot longer than we anticipated.

😂

Ah that sucks! Thankfully you got to see some but the full thing would have been awesome. My cousin loved Iceland when she went a few years ago.

We hope to get back in the air soon man. When they first kicked us back we were all about parking, getting some dogs, stuff like that. Didn't take long to change our minds.

Did you just mention Aurora Borealis?😳 @mipiano
I have been dying to see those northern lights🥺 I only see them on the net and I wish I can see them in real life someday.
I wish to visit Italy someday as well.

Oh well, your comment isn't scary at all.
I thought we needed to leave a mini post about the places we love to visit just like the first comment I saw, I got really scared you know?😂😂

I am glad my comment is not scary @zanoz 😂

The length of the comment is up to you, if you are more talkative or less, if you have a lot of things to say about the topic, or if you just want to reveal a small part of you bucket list. It's not a competition 😇

@galenkp makes it to help people to engage more, to meet new users and to know each other better a little bit.

The Northern Lights are the wish of many here, as I can see 😁

Lol, you are right and you bet I am one crazy talkative hahaha but what I saw was just too scary for me, and at some point, my head started spinning since the comment section isn't as broad and spacious as the body of the post, as such the long writing are jampacked.

That was an intimidating start, wasn't it?

I've been accused of being crazy, and often admitted to it. But I don't often admit to the specifics. I swear, on my mother's grave, that when conditions are just right you can hear the northern lights.

You have to be in a place that is completely quiet. You know how you can tell if a place is completely quiet? Stand silently for a minute or two. If you realize that you can hear the blood flowing in your ears it is quiet enough.

The Northern lights are a great thing to see when you get the opportunity, even though I live in Alaska the last two years for me has been a Northern lights drought, to many cloudy nights.

I didn't know you live in Alaska! Wow.

When I was a child, I watched Northern Exposure (the TV series) I think I will always connect that series with your place of living 😀

So the Northern Lights are now even more important in my bucket list. Thank you @bashadow 🤗

I grew up in the North so have literally seen the Northern Lights thousands of times. They are so beautiful and intense. It was actually until I moved to Arizona that I realized that there is such a huge fraction of people that have never seen them.

It's like a guy I knew that lived in Amsterdam. He traveled to the bush in Australia to see the milky way. He was convinced it was not visible in Northern Europe. It was a long way to go to realize that all he had to do was find a dark place to see it.

I too would like to spend some time in Italy. There was so much outrageous original thought there in the Renaissance that I have trouble believing that it could have all been there in that small place..

I'm like you. The list doesn't end, it just fades out for now!

I grew up in the North so have literally seen the Northern Lights thousands of times

@bigtom13, Lucky you! Yes, there are a lot of us who haven't seen them 😆

that all he had to do was find a dark place to see it.

The light pollution is a thing in big cities. It will be more and more difficult to find a dark place and see even the stars in the night... Just an example, a few years ago in the town where I currently live (a really small one, between a village and town) all the street lights became led lights. It gives a different kind of light, the poor seagulls went crazy, they didn't know is it day or night, so they made noise during the whole night... For some weeks, until getting used. (hahahah we went crazy with them as well, it was a challenge to sleep 😂)

You know, that Italy thing, and travelling through that country for some months or more... Hm... you remember once I mentioned that I wanted to learn to ride a motorbike..? I will just stop here. Period. No further comments. 😋 ( Don't make conclusions, just let's leave it here 😂)

Leave it there? Not a chance. I realize that for much of the world the holiest of holy is in the Vatican. But for me, it is in Bologna. Home of Ducati. In Italy are Aprilia, Moto Guzi, Vespa, Piaggo, Ducati and others. It is motorcycle heaven.

I've got a really good friend that spent a month in Italy a few years ago. Her sister wanted to get married in Italy so rented a castle about 50 miles north of Venice for a MONTH. They had so much fun! And didn't ride a motorcycle an inch!

Light pollution is a problem here too. You can get to really dark places in just a few minutes, but the towns... Kitt Peak, Mount Palomar, and Mars Hill (three famous old telescopes) have varying problems with light around here.

Hahaha, you just couldn't leave it there 😂

One question, did you come across a guy from Greece here in Hive, who posts about his motorcycle trips?

Yes I have, but I've not followed him. I will...

Italy is also my dreamy destination to travel as well...so many beautiful places in the world that we want to explore 😊 I have been sharing a lot my journey in NZ and I'm sure It's totally worth visiting ❤️

Oh New Zealand 💚

If I dig a hole into the earth 🌍 and keep digging straight forward, I would reach New Zealand at the other side 😂

Look how many places are matching between Spain and New Zealand

IMG_20210109_104325.jpg

Damn, I forgot about Aurora Borealis when I was making my list. That's one I really want to see (and shoot) as well. I ran into an East Berliner in a hostel in Idaho who was telling me how it'd taken him 13 trips to Scandinavia before he managed to see it.

Shouldn't we have personal teleporters by now?

Shouldn't we have personal teleporters by now?

We should, definitely!! 👏👌

So. I've thought of a hundred options for you. The one I like best is to wangle a job photographing amateur hockey in Eastern BC. There's lots of it and the kids in those little towns play some hockey, I can tell you.

I saw most of mine in E Wash which is remote by any measure. I'd love the idea of watching amateur hockey and the Northern Lights in the same season.

MooseHead Beer. Find it, and you'll know you are in the right place.

I'd have to figure out how to tolerate cold weather (I don't do that very well) but I think that might work! At least long enough to get some good photos.

All excellent choices here! I am so glad that my wife and I got to explore Italy when we did!

New Zealand is absolutely on the list of places we want to go! The plane ride over there though is killer lol

Yes, so because of that we need

1.personal teleporters (as @coloneljethro wanted and me as well)

  1. go through the Earth (from Spain I can easily reach any place in New Zealand... There is a list of antipodes cities 😂)

No plane needed anymore 😂

Well this is gonna be a hard one...
I have been lucky enough to travel a lot so I've already worked my way down the list but one country that is still there is Japan. I've never been to Asia and Japan just seems like a very interesting mix between tradition and technology. A mix between the neon lights and the villages in the mountains.....

For my bucket list activity I would want to shoot a animal planet documentary in New Zeeland.
From what I've seen the country is beautiful and there are enough interesting animals to observe. I grew up watching David Attenbrough's documentaries and I've always admired both the story telling and the footage. I would love to work on one of those.

What's yours?

It's lucky you have travelled some and so have I, quite extensively actually...But no matter how many times I travel, no matter where I go, the bucket list keeps getting longer, not shorter. I want to go, and do, everything. Greedy? I don't think so...I'll be dead soon enough, maybe 20-25 years if I'm lucky, so time is of the essence.

New Zealand is awesome so you should totally go there and if you do it whilst being paid for doing a documentary it's even better!

Mine? Scandinavia for the fjords and northern lights. Alaska for the wilderness, Canada for the same reason. Machu Picchu for the history and to soak up the Incan civilisation that fascinates me so much. Spend a wet season in Darwin Australia, brutal but beautiful. Safari in Africa, the pyramids in Egypt. Gallipoli to pay my respects to the fallen Aussie soldiers of the campaign of the same name. Arizona to visit @bigtom13 and ride some motorbikes across the desert. Scotland to have burgers and beers with @meesterboom. The Amalfi Coast, Ireland, Texas for steaks with @azircon and his family. A year off four wheel driving around Australia, a catamaran for a month around the Whitsundays. Hawaii and live volcanos, Montana to hunt and camp, Colorado to hike, New Zealand again...I can go on and on.

!ENGAGE 25

Funnily enough, down to Oz for burgers and beers with the mighty Galen is on my list!

Is there any other place to be? Methinks not.

I'd love to ride some motorcycle in AUS, with out question. I'll probably mention it in my actual reply.

Texas steaks are OK, but the best I've ever had are about half way between @azircon and I. A place that'd probably set his geologist heart on fire. Mexican Hat Utah. Would that ever be an epic place for the three of us to meet...

There will forever be a question for me about that place. Why didn't they call it sombrero? It's a complete mystery.

Lol...Settled then...Meet you and azircon at Mexican Hat, Utah...Although, maybe we could work our way up stake place to stake place? Seems a legit compromise!

That's a long list! And here I was trying to keep it to one 😃.

I'm totally with you on Scandinavia, it's next on my list, I went to take drones shots in the fjords!
Also I've been to Machu Picchu and it's definitely highly recommended! Being on top of that mountain, surrounded by mountains was so surreal. I felt at peace.. I even took a nap on the ground...

You've been to Machu Picchu? Lucky you! I'm a bit jealous, but glad you've had the experience. I can see in the image that the entire area is picturesque and the ruins themselves...So interesting. How long were you there and did you have enough time to explore it properly?

I was on the Mountain for one day... 6am till 5pm (closing time) to be exact. It's more than enough time to explore. However there are 2 peaks you can climb, one of with is in the background of most pictures (and you need seperate tickets for that one). The other one is a 1 hour hike if I remember correctly so I think you do have to make a decision. I also went to the Sun Gate which took us about 2 hours (very slow pace, high altitude).

It sounds like a great adventure and one Is be happy to take myself! How did it feel there, can you feel the ancient civilization still lingering?

This is gonna sound a bit cliche but it felt completely zen on the mountain.
Yes you hear the stories of rituals and things that they did but the place it self is unlike anywhere else I've been.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Well, for a fact, you had me at David Attenbrough :) That would be a great thing to aspire to!

A girl I went to HS with (I guess she'd be a woman by now. She's 70) married a Japanese National and has mostly lived there for the last 45 years. We've kept in touch over the years and I'd love to go visit...

He's just the gold standard of this! It's not just that I grew up watching him but even now, I can't think of a better voice /presenter for these types of documentaries!

You should definitely try to visit! I mean, if you have the opportunity to do so I wouldn't wait.

Japan seems like a really cool place to go. It's hard to imagine that all of the different things are encompassed into one place! It's also the most sea coast in the world from what I remember. A little island chain has that? Cool! Good choice here!

Thanks! Firmly on my list and I'm sure I don't even know 10% of what they have to offer...

Which countries in Asia are on yours?

Japan sounds interesting to me also. I would opt for learning about their traditions.

Good point! I might sound like I'm influenced by movies (and I am) but the Samurai's would be and excellent start for me.
But what about the food? 😃👀

Only one thing on my bucket list.
I want to travel to the Netherlands, stay there for a few days to greet and meet friends there.
Then to hire a small mobile home and to travel slowly across as many countries, cities and towns as I can across Europe to my destination in the French alps.
I have a friend there in the alps that runs a ski lodge and after visiting we will fly back to South Africa from Paris. Duration of trip will be 3 months.

This sounds like a great plan! Which city in the Netherlands do you want to visit?
And will you be traveling east to Germany or South to Belgium or France first?

Still up in the air at the moment, as we hope to do it in a few years time when the Covid is history. Then we will do a route plan.

Netherlands...yes yes It’s stunning landscape & it’s also been on my top list to see. That’s ideal plan and more convenient to slowly travel around Europe and get to see more when moving by a small van or mobile home 😊😊

Oh yes, there is so much to see that we will need a lot of time and that's why I thought about a mobile home, as it will give us a lot of opportunities to see as many different places as we can 😉

That sounds like a very good plan and if there's only one thing on the list it's a good one to have!

Three months meandering around would be awesome. We've spent weeks at a time there but have never been able to find the time for months and so things get missed...We hope to get back to see them but there's always new places to go and so maybe we will never do so. Three months...Yep, I'd take it!

!ENGAGE 25

Spot on Chief and for all that I know, we might even apply for a six month visa.

A neighbor here is from Germany and they spend half of the year (summer) in Germany and the other half (summer) here in South Africa. We have become good friends, so I have a local travel advisor on my doorstep, as they have also traveled all over the world.

Unfortunately Aus is too far out of the way and so is NZ but who knows, as life works in mysterious ways.

Thank you for the token.

Well, you know who to call if you come down this way right?

Good morning Galen, finally got signal sorted this morning.
Oh yes, I know exactly who to call whenever we get there.

Thank you!😀😀😀

Dinner is on me when you do!

Sounds great and I would love to fire some of those great rifles that you care for.

Ahhh, come on. Aus is only a good long motorcycle ride from SA. The problem, of course, is the bridge is out... :)

Hahaha, I was considering my old fishing canoe for the trip down under, but then it dawned that the trip back up over that big pond will be a little bit above my fireplace :)

Amateur hour is probably not a really good choice for that particular voyage :)

Hahaha, I love that and it's a very fitting description Sir Tom.
I must remember to call it "amateur hour" in the future :)
Not that I have many discussions about the subject (in fact this is a first).

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Sounds like you put a lot of thought into this trip already! It also sounds like one that is quite doable when the borders open up once again.

I have not looked too much into the Netherlands but the French Alps would be pretty epic to check out I think.

Yeah, thankfully I have some very good advisors here, a neighbor is from Germany and a friend that owns a computer company has actually done a trip like this, but for only two weeks.

My friend in the Alps used to be a church singer here before they emigrated to France and he is doing very well at his ski lodges in the Alps.

So, a few years from now, it will be a real possibility.

I like this one.

Do You need a driver?
LoL

I gotta git the HELL outta here...

Hey, I would love to help you, but this plan is still a few years away.
Maybe Hive moons in the meantime and you can become a tour operator with your own mobile homes?

In 2012 I laughed at BitCoin did not invest and shrugged it off as a scam...

I have a perpetual cramp in my leg from kicking myself in thee ars.!

So I guess the mooning is a possible? And I will HODL on.

Now if you invested a small part in BTC in 2012 you would now be able to buy your first mobile home 😌
Luckily I didn't know about it then.

Yes, I think that sooner or later Hive will spark.

That sounds like a fine plan. I have been to the Netherlands many times and both the people and the scenery are excellent!

Thank you, I saw that there is town in the Netherlands filled with river channels and boats on them. We also know some people there, so it will be an interesting start to the journey.

We hope that your new year has started well, as we are once again in lockdown here.

I do like a ride down the canal. Amsterdam is famous for them but lots of other towns have them too. Great place

Strangely when we started the basic PC training for poor persons in 2004 at Papillon, nobody here would help us with donated PCs. A charity in the Netherlands called "Dorcas" liked the project and they sent us 30 used PC's.

That gave us the start that we needed and that same project is still running today even though we have relocated with Papillon to the Cape 2 years ago.
We left with the count of graduates at 3598 poor un-employed persons and by now the count with the new operators will be greatly increased.

Dorcas. Rings a bell. Maybe it is completely decentralized? Maybe for something else, but I've heard of them. I'll do a little research to refresh my memory...

Dorcas is a charity based in the Netherlands Sir Tom and they do a lot of work in Africa.
They also send over containers loaded with donated goods to their place here in South Africa. That's how we got the computers.

Yes, I abree and that's why I want to make it a starting point and then of course there's also the Dykes that I want to see. But of course my name is not "Meesterboom", so I will stay away from the "Red Light" district 🤣

I don't want trouble with the missus else the trip could be aborted and we will end up unhappily right back here 🤣
The thing is that I am not too au fait with outlandish excuses as a certain guy is around here :)

Now that sounds like the right answer. I just love the whole idea of travelling low and slow.

I'd want to make it as far east as Romania to meet @gabriellatravels. I'd also want to meet @soyrosa in Rotterdam. The rest would be pretty spontaneous.

Great plan my friend!

Thank you Sir Tom and yeah there are many Hive friends over there.
I will have to make a list of them as I cannot think of their tag names now, but I know that they are all over Europe.
Wait, I can think of one, that Austrian mountain goat @johannpiber, oh and another @uwelang and @detlev and, and, no wait the lights upstairs are off in my head today 🤣

At least you have remembered the most important ones, I believe 😉

Cheers and !BEER

Ah! The Austrian energy has stirred at the mention of his name and I might just have started something here that will give @galenkp 100 replies 🤣

I seldom look at mentions of my name, but sometimes I do - so reading this and the other one, to which I will reply to in a minute, are just coincidences 😉

Cheers and !BEER

They say that there are no "coincidences" and that everything happens for a purpose my friend.

Sorry for the late reply, but you know about our signal troubles here. The later that I work, the better the signal gets as more people go to bed.
But I am too old to do late nights anymore.

Blessings!

Most of you didn't even notice, but I took a couple of days off. I needed to do some serious looking at myself and my commitment to Hive so I did that. The fact that I am here now should answer any questions you might have.

But then I get a formidable question like this and I'm back to thinking again. That's an awful lot of mental excitement for my poor old feeble brain :)

I turn 70 in July. So I actually look at my bucket from time to time. My real question right now is "Is my bucket half full or half empty?"

I'm going to say it's half full. I've got a whole lot of places I want to go, people I want to meet and things I want to do. I'm never going to get my bucket empty no matter how hard I try.

I've done a lot of things, more than most. I have lived a life where I very rarely said no. Later. but not no.

So. What's left in the bucket? First would be a trip to Australia. I don't mean a 2 week tourist fly by, I want to ride a motorcycle all the way around. I've been planning this particular adventure for over 50 years. And now there are people I want to meet like @galenkp and @rdpart (aka @russell) and @cruisin and others.

My next big ride will be New England US and the Maritime Provences of Canada. I also have friends there and I've never ridden either region. It's about time. I need to go see where Ann of Green Gables lived. Don't I @jangle? Or where the birdies meet the shadows with @redheadpei

I'd love to do Europe, really would. I have an enormous list of 'go back to'. At some point I have to concede that I'm never going to see the bottom of my bucket but doesn't mean I'll quit looking...

Hi Big Tom.@bigtom13. 70 eh? Congrats on reaching that young milestone. Heck another 30 years before you reach 100. That’s what I tell myself.:)

1 think your bucket is half full and there will always be exciting roads for you to bike once this pandemic is over.

Yes, P.E.I. would be a great Island to explore. Thanks for the mention and hope you make it up this way. Let me know if you do.

I'll be there. The only thing that's stopping me this year is CV. I'll buy you a cup of coffee and see if I can't get you introduced to @jangle.

I noticed as you know, as did others mate...You're a stalwart here buddy, there's no slinking away without it being fucking noticed! 😂

70 years young huh? The perfect time to engage in some riding, to find some new roads to follow and to talk shit with people you value! It's a great bucket list item and you need to make it happen Tom. You know who to call if you're coming to Australia right? We'll have a meet up in your honour!

I'm glad you came out to play this week and don't worry, it's ok to have a break, recharge, spend some time focused on real-world things...It happens to us all, and is extremely healthy.

!ENGAGE 25

I would never guess you are 70 in July. It just confirm the theory that the years don't mean anything, it is how you feel and act.

So, when you finish riding through Australia and Canada, Europe is waiting for you. You could find some interesting hive people here, who knows? 😂

P.S. My father is exactly 70 as well

Oh, I'd love to spend 6 months riding around Europe. I have some on line people I've met and would love to meet in person.

I really, really hope I have another 10 years of riding.

Mid 20th Century was a really good time to be born. It sounds so long ago when you say it that way...

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

I want to go on a trip to Australia.
I want to hunt like @galenkp.
And, I want to go to a nude beach in Australia.

As @galenkp argues, I would like to see if Australian women's physical and sexual attractiveness are superior to those in Korea, China, and Japan.😉

  • You come to Australia and I'll take you shooting and hunting, but you need to field dress what you shoot...That means cutting it open and so on, and I'm not carrying the firearm around for you, you'll have to do the work.
  • Nude beaches in Australia? There's plenty, but you're on your own there mate, not my thing.
  • I can't recall saying that Australian women have a physical and sexual attractiveness superior to anyone...But now you mention it...You're right, they do and I'm glad I'm born here and get to enjoy it.

Thanks for sharing some of your bucket list items this week, your participation is much appreciated.

!ENGAGE 25

I can't believe he said that out loud. 🙄😒 I am glad you told him he is on his own on that aspect @galenkp

Not only out loud, but on the blockchain forever!!

hahahaha, I see :)

I don't exactly know how to say this except "Girls are girls. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that they all have their unique attractiveness." I honestly believe that where I am is where the women are physically superior. Just sayin

I honestly believe that where I am is where the women are physically superior. Just sayin

Dear wise senior @bigtom13, All men from Korea, China and Japan absolutely agree with your wise answer. 😲

BigTitsAmateurExGFBoobsHuge_04.gif

Oh I'm definitely sexually superior 😂😂😂

I have a nude beach 30 minutes from me.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Sexually attractive ends and begins with the word women I guess. Never once have I seen a hot chick like "wait!! Where's she from?!"

I don't understand your metaphorical English.😅

Fair enough, I rarely understand me either.

All I meant was they're all hot to me regardless of geographic origin.

🤣🤣🤣

I didn't think you were metaphoric . Depends where you are though. Like if you were in Spain and there's a hot chick in the square you might be like.. Spanish woman, phwoooar!

Finally, someone who knows what I mean then when I say phwoooar and completely forget where I am.

Hahaha! Yes, luckily my husband and I both share those moments together, or he'd get a clip to the head :P

Nothing like appreciation!

Yeah. Oh, shit sister! You are from Sweeden? Is that like close to Alabama?

For sure. Those things are important when it comes how well the stitching is on back pockets of their jeans.

Ahahahahahahaha! Exactly.

,,It doesn't get any easier than this folks.''
It does. If you asked if I want to eat cake right now my answer would simply be:
I would rather eat two cakes but one will do.

Now I actually have to consider my response. Choosing is hard. One option would be Egypt. I always wanted to see the pyramids. But I am not sure how I feel about the temperature there. it would probably not be ideal. I think I would have the same problem with cold in some other countries. Too cold is also not very good...

Venice with all it's canals and carnivals seems like a wonderful place to visit.

Japan. It seems like it has interesting architecture and beautiful nature.

Last but not least. Not a country but event. Hivefest. I wanted to go to steemfest 3. I was not able to. I wanted to travel to Bangkok. And I failed again. So at some point I would like to prove to myself that I can do it. Of course it would be best if Hivefest would come to me. But just a few years ago it was in Poland so I don't think that is likely to happen in Lithuania any time soon.

Egypt is on my list too. We're still eagerly awaiting the world powers to reopen these gates. When we were forced back to the US I couldn't stop thinking about purchasing a house here. Within a few months, that idea was shot to shit and I can't wait to get tf outta here again. Egypt is on the next tour for sure.

We'll get to Australia, too, just not concerned with hunting anything above ground... there's a Great Barrier Reef for that. I'll bring my favorite weapon—camera.

Well, North or Central America would be good for Hive fest. I mean nothing comes to Yuma but value conscious winter tourists. :)

I'd love to do Egypt, and not just the Nile. I'd want to see the WWII battlegrounds in the desert.

I get it that it's too expensive. I think Mexico or any of several places in Central America would be wonderful.

Ohhhh. I'd probably start smoking cigars again if it were held in Dominican Republic or Nicaragua. 😂

We could have Hive fest at 'Bob's Airport Ranch' on the Baja. I could ride there :)

I am sure that hivefest in America would be fun. But my wallet already cries after this idea

I'd like to go to Egypt too but I think it's possibly out of the question as it may be dangerous these days? I don't know. Maybe someday. I'd actually like to see Petra also.

Now Venice? Yeah, I've been there and loved it. So much history and the canals - Just cool!. We took a gondola ride on our wedding anniversary there, which also happens to be my wife's birthday, and we had a special dinner that night, walked the maze-like streets in the dead of night...Spooky by romantic. Nice place! I hope you get there.

Japan...Yep, we're going. My sister in law is Japanese so we'll go with her and my brother...A ready-made guide. We'll get to experience the real Japan. I've heard it's an amazing place.

I'd also like to go to a HiveFest. I went to the VR one recently, but I'm better in person, as is most people I guess. There's a few hivers I've promised hugs to (I'm the worlds best huger) so it would be good if they were there too!

Thanks for dropping by and joining in this week, I appreciate it. I hope you'll stay around to comment on some of the others.

That really sounds fantastic.

We had a really lovely time and I'd recommend it as a place to go. I've done a few posts on it.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

A bucket list you say? Now I'm curious how we came to refer to such a list as a bucket list... I'm assuming that it is in reference to kicking the bucket but why that particular euphemism for death?

I've never sat down and thought about a list but there are a few things I want to do before I shuffle off this mortal coil. Without further ado and in no particular order:

Solo skydive, not that static line or tandem nonsense. I'd really like to do a HALO jump or play with one of the wingsuits. I love flying and adrenaline rushes and I feel like this would be the ultimate combination of the two. If I can find the right place I'll probably have to add a BASE jump to the list too.

Exceed Mach 1. I don't care if its on land or air, I just want to go fast and making lots of noise in the process is a double bonus. I've only heard a few sonic booms but I'd really like to cause one. I've driven past the Bonneville Salt Flats but going 700+mph on them would be a blast.

Hike/climb above 5,000m. I've yet to make it anywhere where this was possible but I intend to get higher than I ever have before. A couple years ago @cave-man convinced me that Nepal was the place to do it so most likely the Annapurna Circuit will be the place where I accomplish this.

Hmm...it just occurred to me that if I can find a supersonic jet to jump from I could possibly accomplish all three at one time!

The etymology of the term kick the bucket is indistinct although it is commonly known to mean die. The term bucket list was coined by a screen writer for a 2007 movie called The Bucket List...A play on the kick the bucket phrase I guess.

Skydiving is in so many people's bucket lists and for good reason! HALO jumping is something else again...I'm not sure how you'll go finding someone to let you do it and...Getting it wrong can be problematic...Although getting parachuting wrong in any situation isn't going to end favourably! 😂 It's a good bucket-list item though, for sure!

I'm with you on the fast thing...That would be insane! I think it would be more impactful on the ground though. In the air it's like not moving I guess, on land...Scary good.

The climbing...You're on your own there mate, that's a young man's game. I've trekked the Kokoda Trail and the highest point is 2500 (Mt Bellamy) and it was hard. The whole trek is hard. I was 37 at the time, (2007) but don't think I'd make it now at almost 51.

I think you better find that supersonic jet and make it happen. I heard that America has Mach 4 bombers that can reach China for when the war starts so you might be able to hitch a ride?

!ENGAGE 25

Ah, gotcha. Kicking the bucket just made me think of buying the farm and Operation Farm Gate early on in the Vietnam War. The pilots flying the covert missions had a bit of a dark sense of humor and the name was a play on buying the farm.

One of my friends was a rigger in the 82nd Airborne before he joined the Ranger Regiment, he's the one who got me interested in a HALO jump (he had some stories about getting it wrong too). Speaking of getting it wrong, are you familiar with the old 'Blood On The Risers' song?

I've seen photos of the weird shit the air does when an aircraft breaks the sound barrier so I'd be quite happy to experience that either way but yeah, on land it would definitely have more impact.

4,300m is about the highest I've managed to summit, out in the Colorado Rockies but I suspect there would have to be some serious conditioning before I had a go at 5,000m. We've talked about the Kokoda before, I want to do that too!

As long as I don't have to ride a nuke down a la Slim Pickens in Dr. Strangelove I might be tempted to give it a shot. The SR-71 could only do Mach 3+ and I think that was faster than any of our bombers, at least officially we don't have a Mach 4 bomber yet. The new delta wing bomber that they're developing (Long Range Strike Bomber program) may be able to do that but they're being very tight lipped about any details still.

I'm still convinced it will be ICBMs with MIRVs and hypersonic missiles rather than bombers fighting that war...

I heard about the Mach 4 thing unofficially only about a month ago and whilst it's unsubstantiated I wouldn't be surprised if it's a thing; We'll know when China get's bombed from mainland USA I guess. Although, as you say, ICBM's are a more probable weapon system, no people and pinpoint accuracy. Let's see how it goes huh?

Sorry, I wasn't sure if I had mentioned Kokoda before, I make so many bloody comments you know. To get to 5,000 metres you'd definitely need to condition I think, it's doable though, just not by me these days. 🙂

Ah yes, the song the paratroopers made famous in World War Two; Yes I'm familiar with it...A good reminder to get it right.

Well, if it is anything other than total war, I suspect the drone swarm tactics that the Turks seem to have perfected in Artsakh will play more of a role than near hypersonic bombers. Honestly, I'm not sure why we're still going that route (faster bombers), the F-22 can already pull maneuvers that it's human pilot can't handle, as the speed increases the human pilot becomes more and more of a limiting factor. I know the Navy and USAF are working on getting directed energy weapons operational in the very new future, as soon as that is more than a novelty then speeds utility diminishes dramatically.

I was quite amused when I saw that we're selling Taiwan the HIMARS, the PLA will have fun with that if it ever comes to war with China.

You're good, I think I'd dropped into another comment chain about it because I recognized it from my World War 2 readings. There's the Continental Divide Trail here that runs from Mexico to Canada along the spine of the Rocky Mountains, I've wanted to hike a good chunk of that anyway, but it would do well for conditioning I suspect.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

I think your easiest answer to two of the three is take a Space X or Virgin Space ride. There'd be LOTS of noise and supersonic flight. You'd have to do your HALO jump as a separate item :)

The Army's HALO school is here at YPG. I have a couple of friends that are/were HALO qualified...

I've live much of my life in 'Sonic Boom' area. Lightly populated areas that are reasonably close to more urban zones. We have several good booms per month here. I actually live in the restricted air space for the Goldwater Bombing Range. The Marines and Air Force both try to minimize the impact, but in truth it's part of their training.

In the subsonic weirdness category I've gotten to know a current Osprey Pilot fairly well in the last year or so.

SpaceX, now that is something I hadn't thought of! One of my friends did some HALO jumps with the Rangers. He was rather emphatic that smoking weed before prebreathing pure oxygen for a HALO jump was a bad idea.

When I was little they were still using my neck of the woods for low level bombing practice for B-52s. No sonic booms but that was a bit loud. End of the Cold War put a stop to it though.

I've never actually got to see one of the Ospreys fly. I'm half surprised they around after the troubles they faced early in their development.

You talk about noisy. A wing of 4 Ospreys flying withing half mile of my house actually rattles the china. Much worse than Sea Stallions.

The Ospreys are a really dependable option now days. 300 mph in horizontal flight and can carry half a company of Marines. The jeep carriers today are really making the big Carriers look bad.

All the FA 35s for all services are flight tested here. Those things are NOISY too...

Oh, Galen! This is easy.... and hard at the same time. Easy, because the list is so long and obvious it is not a problem to put down. Hard, because it is painful and hard to execute. There is a sadness in the word 'someday', which as Roy Miller said is a dangerous word, it is just a code word for 'never' (that is from a cheesy movie Knight and Day, which is quite bad but I like it!).

Here is my current list:

  1. Pacific Crest Trail (walk Mexico to Canada along the Sierra Nevada Mt (2650miles)
  2. Tibet (Lhasa)
  3. Cape Horn
  4. All the Cyclades islands (that will take a lifetime or two, if there is afterlife!)

I can make the list longer, but there is no point. There are a huge number of things I haven't done and want to do. Rather I should finish with a quote from the same movie...

I think a lot about things I haven't done. Dive in the Great Barrier Reef; ride the Orient Express; live on the Amalfi Coast with nothing but a motorcycle and a backpack; kiss a stranger on the balcony of the Hotel Du Cap.

This is a fascinating bucket list. I would take the Greek islands. They look like made up places. I did not know about that trail from Mexico to Canada. I'll pass on that. I think that in the last years we have walked so much without public transportation, we might have covered that distance already.
I agree there is a showdow of impossibility in any bucket list.
Hope you can materilize yours

Hi ya my friend! The PCT is a place of dreams. It's well known and very deserted. It's just amazing.

I'd be sure you've covered that mileage. I put over 2500 miles on my last pair of walking shoes, and I'm pretty lazy!

I've done some things and if I die tonight a lot of people would be impressed. If I live to be 103 I'll still have things left on my list!

I've got maybe 25% of the PCT over the last 50 years. Enough to make me very happy and very sad at the same time.

Have you ever been to Mexican Hat, Utah? The question came up in another context :)

Yes, I have taken students to Mexican Hat many times to do field work :)

Have you ever eaten at the 'Swinging Steak'? I think the best hunk of beef I've ever had...

Swinging Steak

No, I don't think I have. Google says the place is closed now

Oh, no. Maybe just for the winter?

That's really sad if they are gone for good...

or Covid! How many people they get now you think? Or gotten over the last year! I will be surprized if a place like that can stay in business! Its sad!

What a great list, and yes I understand that there's many others that you could have written about. I find it difficult to believe that so many people don't have bucket lists...It's almost inconceivable, but certainly true - I know a few. Who could value their own life so little that they don't have a lists of things they want to do or see? Beggers belief to be honest.

The Pacific Crest Trail...Please let me know if you're doing it as I'll keep you company! That sounds amazing. I've done some trekking in my life and that one has eluded my notice until now so thank you! #PacificCrestTrail2022

There's a lot to like about your list and it's not your every day bucket list thing like, go to Disney land...It's clearly thought about.

When you dive the Great Barrier Reef let me know, ,I'll meet you there and we can go visit my brother (not Taraz) who lives up there. You guys will get a long well, both smart...I'll be the dumb one.

Thanks for dropping in mate, I really appreciate it.

!ENGAGE 25

All sounds great! We wait and look forward to it :)

On a different note, what are your thoughts on Australian housing market? I saw a short post about Sydney housing market by travelgirl. If you have time I perhaps like our thoughts in general and perhaps on specific cities.... both residential and commercial.... maybe as a post. You are the expert in the subject!

That would be a long post. I've done them in the past, more related to my own State as each major city and area has completely different scenarios altogether. There are markets within markets too, different areas have different factors, pressures or forces so it's not possible to do a single post summarising it all other than basically comparing rental rates, every sale prices and high and low sale prices.

My city for instance Adelaide. There's

  • City
  • West
  • North
  • South
  • East
  • North east

Then there's the type of house/property: House, unit, apartment, townhouse, terrace, retail, office, industrial, warehouse, mall, arcade, medical, farm etc.

After that each regional centre has it's own set of numbers and sectors within it...I'd need to get paid a lot to spend the time writing something so complex and so I only focus on the Adelaide metro area when I make posts about property. Talking about Sydney or Melbourne...I could do so, do the research, but it's not something one does in an afternoon.

I haven't read any posts about property here before, not travelgirl's anyway...

The thing is that what the general public "know" or see is often not necessarily the case...They see the little microcosm of their own little world and simply don't have access to relevant actual data, just what people are asking on marketing sites like realestate.com.au and domain.com.au and what is marketed is not always an indication of what was achieved.
A little information can be a lot dangerous. I think you understand.

It's a complex thing, which is why I get paid so much to look at it. I have done posts before but not often as I think most people would find them boring as bat shit. I'll look into it though, see what I can come up with for you. :)

It's a big thing here. I don't think it is boring at all. You probably can break it into bite sized chunks... and with you sense of humor make it interesting.

Two guys here made a big business in Social media from absolutely nothing. I have seen them grow..now it’s a massive thing

https://www.biggerpockets.com/

I'll get something together over the next week or so, should be easy enough, and won't be guesswork, speculation and made up. 😉

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

I have a really long list of the places I wish to go or visit and I think after dropping here and seeing how others made their comments, I was scared away hehehe, but thanks to some people here who encouraged and I had to take the bold step and come right back and this time I even made a post about it but first here are the places I would love to visit;
Korea
Italy
Canada

Good places to visit, all have their merits.

I guess they do.

Oh yeah, I'd love that trifecta. I've traveled quite a bit in Canada it's really amazing and BIG. I want to dip the front wheel of a motorcycle in the Behring Sea, and my next big ride will be to New England and the Maritime Provences of Canada. I'm really looking forward to it.

I like this one. It keeps your mind busy thinking about the trips you still have missing to do. I actually three destinations in my list.

The first one is the route66 cycling. I'd love the feeling of silence while traveling the US from Chicago to the west coast.

image.png

image.png

The second one is a long sailing trip. I used to sail while I was younger as I had a couple of friends who's family owned a sailboat. I always remember how peaceful you feel as the air pushes the sails and the water keeps hitting the hull. There are many places I would love to explore but Australia and New Zealand would be on my list for sure.

image.png

Finally. I'd love to spend a winter in Alaska, in the arctic national wildlife refuge.

image.png

Excellent..I must say your Bucket List are Incredible !!! How long traveling the US from Chicago to the west coast? I know a couple who spent 172 days cycling 16.000 km from France to Viet Nam and the beautiful story behind that I really admire. I hope I can do a travel cycling with a long distance and stunning route someday.
Australia and New Zealand are definitely great picks for your sailing trip, you will love it for sure 😊
Well, a dreamy winter in Alaska um you know you have listed all the best places 😜

I hope you can complete all these on your bucket list soon in the future :))

Happy to hear you like my choices. Maybe this bull run gives me a chance to try them all!!!😀

Are you sure you want to spend a winter in Alaska ❄️🥶? Hehe, just kidding, I imagine it would be priceless, however I am freezing now in 9 degrees Celsius and refused to go outside 😂.
The route 66 sounds pretty interesting 😎 👌

Nature is what fascinates me. And Alaska is for sure a place to visit. :)

Three great bucket list items right here, all adventurous and I'd say all extremely enjoyable.

I've always had it in mind to motorbike Route 66; It just seems like the place to do something like that. I think @bigtom13 has done part of it, I recall him mentioning it. Pushbike or motorbike...Either way I think it's be a great adventure and is on many people's bucket list.

The sailing...Yep, I'd love that but sailing isn't my thing. I'm not sure how I'd go in open water. One of my brothers is looking for a boat at the moment, something to live on basically. He wants to sail around but because of where he lives (North Queensland) he'd have the ability to live off it and work in the working week and sail on the weekends...Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsundays...I think he'll do it, he's fairly committed.

Alaska has been on my list since my early 20's...Still is. So, when you go there make sure you give me a shout, I'll come too!

!ENGAGE 25

Deal, I'll take care of fishing and you take care of hunting!!

Like Yin and Yang. Perfectly balanced.

WEll, we just as well do some crabbing, too. I'm not a bit above raising and lowering pots :)

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

New Zealand

Wow yea! Sailing around New Zealand would be an epic adventure. stopping along different coastline towns take day trips up into the mountains and back, think I might add that my bucket list now as well. :D

I didn't think about the idea of hiking around while sailing so I will incorporate it into the trip!!

Fuckin dope! I grew up in the LA area, actually owned a fab shop ON Route 66 in Victorville, Ca between 2006-09.

Growing up on Route 66 was just another road. But the more places I go and the more people I meet, the more infamous I realize it is. I remember once in Greece, dude cutting my hair had all his tools and scissors in a fancy box that said Route 66 on it. I told him basically what I just told you and the whole damn barber shop acted like I was famous.

Hahaha, that's a cool story. I guess for those who've never been there and love the idea, just stumbling upon someone who is actually from there is nice. I've been in Chicago and in most of CA and still, the idea of traveling that vast area with my bike is a dream.

Enjoy your travels, sir. It'll be a lot of fun. What a world of difference in the weather alone between Chi and Ca. Different worlds.

I have to tell you there are some really cool places between Chi town and LA on the mother road. It really is mystical in places. Let me know, if nothing else I know about a dozen great places to eat along the 66. :)

image.png

I've sailed some, but not enough. I'd love nothing more than a long slow sail all the way round. But I'd head for AUS first so I'd be sure to get that done :)

That's a cool photo!
I'll make sure I let you know ahead of time so I don't miss any of your restaurant suggestions. After all, I will need food to get enough energy to paddle! 😃

I think my bucket list would include Ben Nevis in Scotland. There may be a more interesting high points to see than it in the British Isles, but it seems to be the most northern point according to google maps.

I have often wondered, but did no research, as to who was the first people of the British Isle. I could research, but sometime flights of fancy are a lot more fun than the real knowledge.

Were there people in the region that became an island when it was part of Doggerland? That was a long time ago 6,500 BC. What was it like for the people, if there were any, to watch a neighbors home drown under a crushing wave as the land sank. Did they have boats, a quick search shows that the first boat is 8,000 BC so it is possible, but did they have boats?

To just sit at the top of that point, to meditate and think and dream of the far distant past. To see in my minds eye the encroachment of people from across the waters, first those looking for a new home free from the strife and confines of their old, to build what would eventually be one of the most powerful empires in the world, and then to watch its decline.

Just one of the few place I would like to be on my bucket list.

"That was a long time ago 6,500 BC. What was it like for the people, if there were any..."

I was thinking about the Saber Tooth and the Wooly Mammoths wandering around?

Sabertoothed_tiger_Smilodon_2.jpg

Yeah I think that saber tooth would make short work of any people back then.

You know my fascination with history so I'm going to like anything that revolves around it...I wonder the same things as you and whist I simply don't have the time to research everything I take a look from time to time.

When we were in the UK we went to Cheddar Gorge where the Cheddar Man was found, UK's oldest intact skeleton. He date's back 10,000 years and was found in 1903. In the caves today they have a skeleton displayed in the exact manner in which he was found, but it is a reconstruction. We saw the actual skeleton back in London at the Museum of Natural History a couple weeks earlier.

The oldest human inhabitant of UK (known to us) dates back 500,000 years; A six foot tall chap of the Homo heidelbergensis species. That's as far back as I know.

I like where your head's at with the sit and meditate thing. I've been to so many ancient sites, Roman ruins and so on and every time I'm left with more questions than are answered. Who lived here, why, what did they do, how did they get here, where did they go, how did they live, what was their social structure...You know, that sort of thing.

These are the questions I would seek answers for if I was an extremely rich man who didn't have to work for a living. I'd travel and learn. I think you may be similar?

Thanks for dropping in as always, I appreciate it.

!ENGAGE 25

There are so many places one could go and contemplate what happened, how did we they get here or what happened here in the past. To sit and watch the Lighthouse of Alexandria burn bright guiding people to the library and then to sit and watch the library burn. History is fun but books can only give us what was deemed history, I like thinking of the feel of the times. If I had the money, there are thousands of places to visit. If time travel is ever perfected or even just close, I would volunteer in less than a heart beat to be a guinea pig to try it out.

I'm with you of course. History was written by the victor, as always, and changes with each new writing.

There is a huge European bias on the early population of North America. European anthropologists have long held that North Americans came here in the last 12,000 years. They are wrong.

Multiple tribes record the ice sheet and the 'great flood' in their creation story. There is some really creditable evidence of 50,000 years ago in California Florida AND Peru. Several near 20,000 YO skeletons have been recovered in the Pacific Northwest.

It's fascinating stuff...And why I want a time machine...I'd not want a DeLorean in the style of Back to the Future though...Maybe a nice donut shop time machine...Somewhere I could travel, have a snack and a coffee at the same time. :)

Yeah. A donut shop would be perfect. Even Dr. Who's phone booth would be ok, I'm thinking, but a fresh coffee and a donut would be the best...

I want to fly in a hot air balloon in Cappadocia. Why? Because I want to see the world from up high and to be as close as I can be to the clouds🤩

Cappadocia-Deluxe-Balloon-Flight9.jpg

Seems legit and I can see the attraction. They always do those balloon things early in the day and watching the sunrise up there is pretty special.

!ENGAGE 25

Watching a sunrise from such a thing would be just incredible

Get the right other person on board and it's magical!

Oh that's true....

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Oh, I have never thought about flying in a hot air balloon, but now when you say, sounds like a super interesting experience 🤩

What a great list item. There are several big 'balloon festivals' around here in the winters. I'd like to fly in one, too!

Loading...

Great topic. I have a long list of possibly unrealistic wishes, so I'll narrow down my bucket list to something doable, even it it also looks impossible given the current circumstances.
In a post-covid-19 /post-chavista Venezuela I'd love to travel around my country.
There are tons of places I've never been to and I'd love to document the whole journey from Macuro on the east coast (the place Columbus set foot on when they finally touched the continent) to Maracaibo on the west coast
Some impressive places I'd like to visit are:

The Gran Sabana, land of Tepuyes and the higest water fall in the world. South, state of Bolivar.
Source

The dunes at the Médanos de Coro. North-west, State of Falcón.

The incrdible archipielago Los Roques North central coast

Pico Bolivar. West, state of Mérida

OMG, @hlezama, The Gran Sabana look impressive, like from a dream!! Imagine flying over that place with a plane 🛩

Absolutely! Flying over that place would be the best way to experience it.

Ohhhhh, my. That is an incredible diversity and what a trip it would be!

I have seen all these places in documentaries. The most current being the Gran Sabana and the diversity that changes up and down those cliff faces. It's just an amazing place.

It is. Unfortunately, in the last 20 years tourism has suffered the consequences of a destructive government. All the infrastructure around these places (transportation, lodging, safety, etc) have suffered considerably and it was already difficult and traumatic to access these places. In the case of Los Toques, the rich and famous associated with the government have even disrupted the ecosystem building where nothing was supposed to be ever built and they have those places as their private backyard.
Hopefully they will still ve there when the political nightmare is over. Nature has its way to persevere

Get out of here man! Are you kidding?

The Gran Sabana

How long has that been going on? I mean I've never seen this place before! I want to climb it now...So I'm going to have to tag along on your visit there. I'll carry the back pack. 😂

What a diverse set of places you've chosen and all on the same continent! I can see why they're on your bucket list Henrry and I'm pleased you've taken the time to show them here. Thanks for joining in.

By the way...Here's a little 50 hive gift from me...

!ENGAGE 25

Thanks, mate
I'd be honored to make this trip with you guys.
I remember when I was in the States, around 2002, I met this entomologist at Ohio University who was planning to visit La Gran Sabana for both pleasure and research. He asked me whether it was a good idea given the current (by then) political situation. I discouraged the visit. Even back then things were already getting crappy.
We have amazing natural wonders but there is a lot to be done in order for our tourist industry to be at a level at least safe enough for tourist to enjoy the experience without hating the country or its people.
It's embarrassing when we read or hear that tourists have been assaulted, scammed, or even killed. Of course, for some people around the world, these risks make the experience even more exciting, but I want to think that we can have it all.
These tepuyes and Angel's Falls were central in Disney/Pixar's feature film "Up" (2009). Worth watching, by the way.

I'm not keen on getting kidnapped, assaulted or killed, but I'd give it a go with you. Safety in numbers right? (I have some skills too.)

So I've seen 😎
To more the safest, eapecially if you guys can bring your toys.
So far, here only corrupt military and gangsters have access to toys. Their gangs have so much fire power law-enforcement fears them. They control every city or town. in touristic places they operate in alliance with law enforcement who provide all the toys they may need, in exchange for a share of the booty. The groups that operate in the gold mines that are now being expanded into sacred indian territory, are the scarier ones. The have filled the net with horrific videos of what they can do to people military or civilians.
It's a bizarre society we have now around these beautiful places.

No matter what, I think humans will always behave badly, or counter-productively from the main bulk of them. Greed and ego are the reasons mainly...I think that's what those criminals you mention are all about; Lining their own pockets. It's similar here, although probably not quite as bad...The criminals seem to call the shots mostly and manage to stay a step ahead in the main.

Wow awesome topic 😊 While arranging of my bucket list to put down here, I would love to tag
@jacuzzi & @imawreader whom I shared about the event happening here every Fri 🤣🤣

Thanks for the mention @trangbaby! I was busy looking at my notifications and came across this. If it wasn't because of you, it may have taken me longer to see this post by @galenkp.

My Bucket List Destination!

Hello @galenkp.

I love traveling! I would love to travel the whole world before this life time is over. Is it possible? I know it is, IF I commit to it. But first there are three places I'd love to visit - Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, Venice in Italy and Paris in France. Reason being I am a hopeless romantic and love beautiful places.

I see pictures of these places and watch them in movies then fantasize that I am there! Lol. Someday, I believe. I'll visit these places, meet people, understand the culture, study the arts, especially the Renaissance masterpieces Italy is well known for! Can't wait to tick these places off my list. 😊

Venice, Italy and Paris, France are places I have been and I can assure you that they are completely amazing! They are beautiful spectacles of what humankind can create and I love them both. I truly hope you get there someday. I've not been to Victoria falls but would like to, it looks pretty spectacular and completely opposite from human creation...This natural wonder is on my bucket list too. 🙂

Thanks for joining in this week.

Ah I will have to find some picture but south eastern Italy. That’s the place we would love to just up and go to! There’s too much shit going on before all this that it would be nice to live and work in such an area. It’s got it’s ups and downs like anywhere but you are next to the beautiful Mediterranean! I like it because it’s less touristy than some of the other regions. Hopefully that doesn’t mean that the mafia controls it like they do Sicily lol. My background when I’m on zoom meetings is an amazing picture of the cliffs in one of the spots. Every single time I get comments about it lol. Wish we were there now!

SE Italy is beautiful, good choice. I once came over from Greece to Brindisi and then hith hiked all the way back to the UK through Italy and France. Italy is go great.

Ah that sounds like an awesome adventure! My wife spent weeks roaming around Italy it was amazing. Very scary in some parts up north but still amazing lol

 3 years ago (edited)

Stop it man, you're making me want to go right now!

A less touristy area would be good though as it gets busy over there for sure. I reckon it's possible you know, to make such a change, even if it's for a year or so...Probably sooner rather than later though...The worlds not getting easier to travel after all. Don't worry about getting lonely if you go, I'll come to visit!

!ENGAGE 25

Yeah the travel situation is going to get ridiculous, honestly. A story for another day, or a post in the ranting community lol.

I'm just very glad that we got to go to Italy in the first place. It's such a beautiful and wonderful country. We didn't make it to the eastern side but if we do get to go back we will spend half the time there for sure.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Hey, if you like less touristic place and Mediterranean combined, just come to my place hahaha. The 2020 killed almost all tourism in Spain, we have never had a summer with less people in the town. And the sea is the same as beautiful as always 😍 😜

Spain has definitely been something I've wanted to go and see! I'm not too much into France and England but Spain has some real appeal to me so hopefully one day when we can do stuff like that, if ever, we will have Spain on our list!

This is an easy one for me. Diving Cocos Island off the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. It's basically shark mecca and I can't think of anywhere in the world i'd want to dive more than here. Was supposed to do it before my 50th which is next month but alas.... maybe before 55 😉. I'd be happy to hang up my scuba fins after this

If you had said anything other than diving I wold have been surprised. It's all good though, clearly your passionate about it. I've seen docos on the region and have heard that it's the place to be for the old shark dives...You reckon you'll get it done before 55?

!ENGAGE 25

hmmmm see how my next side venture goes as its entirely possible. If there are any sharks left :(

Yeah, I guess that's the thing right? Humanity has a fairly huge impact on nature huh? Sharkfin soup must be tasty, not that I'd ever try it.

from what i hear it's actually not. It's more a status thing

Yeah, that'd be right...Ego, status, hubris...Humans huh?

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Oh, is it the paradise in Earth? So beautiful and the sharks are amazing.

I just saw one shark a few years ago, unfortunately dead, when the waves got it out out of the water... And a lot of living ones in Oceanography (is it called like that in English?) Where you can walk in glass passages and the sharks are swimming all around you. 🤩

But diving among them has to be the top experience. 🔝

My buddy the old Navy diver has some serious Shark Stories...

He dove some off of Bikini Atoll and Runnet Island. Where they had to pass the Geiger Counter Test before they could go ashore... There's a new species of Shark there that is the first known radiation driven mutation that carried on.

@diveratt has dived bikini I believe. Or did he say he wore a bikini lol

Crazy stuff, a good idea to have a quick Geiger counter check lol

All the water is now remarkably clean and clear of radiation. There are some hotspots on the sea floor, but the clean up has been quite remarkable, all in all.

Looks beautiful in pictures and stuff but certainly one place I could let you have fun with while I sit topside lol

Happy weekend everyone ! A place that I would love to eventually visit is Kilkenny, Ireland. While in the midst of lockdown, I picked up a sub to Ancestry.com and started digging into my family's background (my dad's dad passed away 35 years of age due to polio, so family history is not well known). A few weeks into it and I managed to trace the surname to Kilkenny, Ireland.

There are some castles that may/may not have been in the family, farmlands, gardens, and even some ravines/hills that my family likely hiked/walked hundreds of years ago. I can't wait to visit these places. More importantly though, is this place :

https://www.kytelersinn.com/

How exciting will it be do knock a few pints back at a place that I'm sure my ancestors frequented from time to time? I'm not a huge Guinness fan, but hey, I'll suck it up for the experience and to cheers my long gone and lost family. My guess is that once the locals learn of my journey there, the stories will start flowing in, and if I can stay (sober) long enough, I will document as much as I can.

Great bucket list item bro!

A few years ago I did mine too, back to 1450 Cornwall UK. In 2018 we went there and visited a little place called Wendron, Cornwall where a very old church sits on a hill beside a country lane. My ancestors were christened, married, worshipped and buried there and we wandered about the very old headstones seeing familiar names.

I was left wondering which of my ancestors stood at the grave sire on the day of the burial or afterwards, mourning the departed. It was moving and I felt...At home actually. I felt comfortable, like I belonged there.

You need to do this mate, take it off your list and bring it into real life. You will not regret it I think.

Thanks for sharing this personal bucket list item. Your participation is greatly appreciated.

!ENGAGE 25

Very cool! From what I can tell, my ancestry originated in Staffordshire; at the Queen's behest, they were given land in Ireland in the Queen's name around 1100 AD (at least that is the earliest date I've been able to find). For whatever reason, unlike other English families placed in Ireland, my ancestors took to the Irish and their cause and were known sympathists. A few of my ancestors were hanged on bridges near Kilkenny and Wexford as traitors to the Queen, and one apparently died in the Tower of London in the 1500's. History is unbelievable, isn't it? How many fantastic details have been lost to time?

I hear you on the feeling of being comfortable; I've actually had a few dreams of being in Kilkenny among valleys and ravines and feeling at peace. I can't wait to pack up the family when Hattie is older and explore the land.

Pretty cool history man. You know, some don't have any desire to know this stuff about their ancestry and for a long time I never delved into it myself. But it made me happy to know it, to understand the past a little better despite most of it being lost in time. It made me feel more...Connected i guess is the word.

I really hope you make it there man, it'll be amazing!

Established 1324! That sort of thing just amazes me.

We have a kiva here in Arizona that can prove that it has been continually occupied since around 750 AD. It all amazes me.

My brother (we were both adopted at birth) is doing some research in Ireland right now too. He's managed to take a part of his past and track it to Ireland and a DNA sample agrees. I'm sure he'll go there in 2021. The only question is when...

That is awesome - I think it means a bit, right? To get back to something like that? My wife and I adopted a beautiful little girl three years ago, and I really want to dig into her background and have something for her to explore when she gets older.

Yeah, when, right? I'm a bit worried about what travel will require/be like in a year, let alone international travel. What part of Ireland did he trace back to?

I'm just not sure exactly how far he's gotten with his search. He actually knows who his birth mother and his half siblings are, and tracked them...

Adoption laws have changed so much that you really should have no problem finding a serious good starting point for chasing your daughter's history. And notice how I did that. I have a whole bunch of new brothers and sisters, but my family is who I was raised with...

I'm not sure if I'm the only one but one of my wildest dreams is to go to the outerspace, float around and see earth from a distance. 😆 But I know it would remain a dream because only chosen people are allowed to travel up there. For something realistic, I would wish to see Japan to experience the culture, food, and beautiful nature. I also wish to see the aurora borealis with my bare eyes. Not sure what exact country in Europe will I see it. I also like to visit Polynesia, Spain, Italy, and Greece. But before all these places, I would go visit around my country first: Batanes, Bohol, Palawan, Bataan, Cebu, and Benguet.💕

Outer space is a good choice, I think many would like to go there and see the world in all it's glory, myself included. I think one needs to be very rich to do it though, so I'll never be able to go. I've travelled the world though, and even to some of the places you mention. All very amazing places to visit so I hope you can get there.

You said you want to visit your own country first though; That's a good plan. Have you seen much of it yet and if not when are you planning to start travelling around to see it?

!ENGAGE 25

Yup, you either need to be an astronaut or someone who can afford a ticket to space. I'm neither of those so sometimes I just watch live streams of NASA and imagine myself being there too. 😆

Congrats! I wish I could see lots of places just like you. ☺️

I have only visited a few in my country since I'm a homebody. But I wish to see new places someday together with my sister when she comes home. Haven't been with her for almost 12 years now. I wish to spend those wonderful travels with her. :)

Twelve years? That's a long time. It sounds like my and my brothers...We are spread all over the world so see each other rarely. I hope you get to travel with her.

Thank you. I hope we get to reconnect with our families after this pandemic. :)

Whoa 12 years that's a long time indeed! Hopefully you get to reconnect with her soon!

Thank you! We do chat quite often though. Thank goodness communication is a lot easier now. :)

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

The really nice thing is a lot of us live in places that have a lot to offer already so it's nice to have things to look forward to later on the future while we enjoy exploring around where we live.

Outer space is definitely the best one though!

I bet a few hundreds of years from now outer space will be the new travel destination. Too bad I'm already a soul by then. 😆

I just got an invite here and wow! I am blown by what I just saw. I mean the interactions here are top-notch.
My head is even spinning from all the long mini-post comments 😂
I am not much of a travel freak so I guess this week is not for me.
But I will surely stick around for the next week.
Thanks to @trangbaby for bringing me here😊

Actually, it is not just for travel, although the majority of us just focused where would we like to go.

You can pick an activity, not just travel related, if I am not wrong?

Oh well, thanks for explaining that, I guess I will have to do that after this thanks a lot

Don't worry about long comment writings here 😃 It's not all about topic but interaction, fun on weekend and making new friends here. Going to somewhere just in your town: museum or library also a kind of traveling or just pick an activity like @mipiano recommends 😊

Thank you @trangbaby I will stick to that idea :)

Feedback from the January 1st Hive Power Up Day

My bucket list is the trip we postponed due to covid and now are taking this october. We will travel to the Cayman Islands. But we are going to be close to the vaccination date and in order to travel we have to be vaccinated twice, so we hopefully will be able to travel make dreams come true, untill than I am greatefull to be safe and healthy.

Cayman Islands, yeah that's nice. I've not been but have heard some good things about it. I hope you manage to get the vaccinations done and am sure you'll have a good trip!

For now with the lockdown it’s absolutely not the most important thing , staying safe is and this will stay on the future list goals but I will be so excited when I can go after all these months

Stay safe

Yes, staying safe is paramount and I hope the vaccine situation is a help not hindrance; I am not sure if it's been tested enough, I'm just not educated enough in that field to know, nor do I, or anyone, have the full information; I think there's a huge leap of faith required from most and lot of hope...It would be nice for it to be the cure-all for the pandemic situation as it has gone on long enough but...Who knows.

Its a weird time, and being scared every day give a new dimension to living and stying safe, maybe this will help people to be grateful for all they / we got. Yet i don’t want to be a politician right now, or ever for that part, because these days while the world burns you can never please all. For now i hope the vaccine will help take a way some stress. Stress ;level here will be even higher now we got the news that 21 days until of the 20 days we already had.
Lets pray and hope for a quick change

Cayman Islands are really nice! I know you'll have a good time as long as you don't turn into a zombie from the inoculation! Lol

Hahahaha well I hope that will be the case 😉
