Weekend-engagement topic week 39: Fear

in Weekend Experiences3 years ago

Most of us have fears and considering it's been on my mind this week I thought it might make an interesting topic to throw out there. I'm interested to see what some of y'all have as your own fears if you're willing to share.

Welcome to the weekend, and to week 39 of the #weekend-engagement topic!

Snakes, spiders, clowns, needles, heights, the neighbour, flying, enclosed spaces, the dark, dogs, people, social-interaction, bears, squirrels, sharks, guns, heights, intimacy, loud noises, kids, stepping on Lego blocks, death, life, covid-19, Aunt Betty, driving, water, beards, the doctor, dentist, losing oneself...I think the list could be endless.

So what's it going to be? Check out the topic below.

dazz.png

In one hundred and fifty words or less, that's 150 words or less, comment below and tell us a fear you have (or more than one) and why. You could also tell how you mitigate it.

You need to comment below with your response as I'll be selecting some who do so and, on Monday, will transfer some hive. Make sure you stay around and interact with some of the others if you're keen...You might meet new people or learn a little more about those you already know. original im src

A new concept trial

This week I thought I'd test out something a little different in addition to the comment-topic above just to see how it goes...It's a chance to gain yourself a little extra hive by posting about the #weeked-engagement topic in the THE WEEKEND community.

Here's what you have to do.

I have reserved an extra reward pool of 20 hive to send directly to one of those posts as above. I'll also throw the winner a 100% upvote and depending on the posts' quality maybe a @curangel vote and some other support I may be able to generate with my mates around the place as well.

I'll be looking for something interesting and, of course, topic-related, so if you're keen for the opportunity have a go. Of course, I'll not be rewarding those who cut and paste a link from that community-post, or the text itself, to double it up here in the comments...Make your comment on this post unique please. I also reserve the right not to reward anyone at all - I'll be looking for passion, personality and effort.

A parting quote

“If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.”
— Marcus Aurelius

That's it for this week hivers...I hope you get into it this week and some of you, all really, have a try at the community post concept also.

Have a great weekend everyone...A long weekend for me with Monday being a public holiday. I'll see you around the blockchain.

Let's see, fear.

I will start with some nonsense, like fear of a big dog barking at me and showing it's teeth without a leash and without an owner nearby, on a street. Happened few times, so my husband stood between the dog and me, so the beast can not feel my fear. That is worse, if they feel you are scared. (Yeah , I am a cat person, but I like dogs also, those that don't want to scare me ;) )

The other nonsense is that I am scared of toads. I know , they could not harm, but...

Some bigger scare would be hurting someone with words or actions unintentionally. Or not acting if someone would need the help I could provide and I don't recognize the request...

145 words. Ok, I am under the limit, no more fears for today in this comment then! :D

but I like dogs also

this saved your comment from a downote. 😜

Aaaaaaa hahahahaha

😜

I wouldn't survive it 😱😂

I have always had dogs, of course I love them. But the owners who let the not so kind ones who barks at you on the street without them being close...that is what a bit scares me 😌

You'd like Sam. The friendliest dog in Arizona. That and he's darn near silent so never barks. The only noise he makes on the street is the swishing tail.

Yes , I would like him then ;)
I was trying to find a photo of our dog (my parents' dog) but I can not find any in my phone now... He is also a friendly, but now old black Cocker Spaniel

I've had Cocker Spaniels in my past. When I was 4 my Dad bought 3 registered Cocker pups. One for my youngest uncle, Jim. That was actually my Grandfather's dog. The second was for my Cousin Judy, and only child and daughter of a woman with MS. The third was for me and they were Christmas presents, so we kept them at our place until Christmas (maybe 2 weeks). Mine was killed in an accident but the other two were around for years and years.

Oh, sorry to hear what happened to your dog. Our first Cocker were killed by a car, she run away from the yard and a car hit her 😔

Then we had another one, that lived for more than 10 years...And this is the third one... Seems that my family has a favorite kind of dog 😁

Hi @bigtom13. Is Sam your dog? Hehehe. In my part of the world we keep dogs not as pets but majorly for security purposes. I'm thinking of Sam, since he's so friendly and very silent, is he security conscious as well?

Yay! 🤗

Toads...They're not really very attractive...Frogs now...Well, we all know that kissing a frog turns it into a handsome price right? Fear no frog. Lol.

Thanks for joining in Gabriella, much appreciated.

!ENGAGE 15

Yeah, I have got already a prince, so I will not kiss any frog 😂

Good answer.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Oh, man. Nasty dogs and toads? Both legitimate in my book.

Though my mother had a window well (a protective space for a basement window) that was just full of toads. She fed them and kept them hydrated all the time. They were toads but were called Frobbies because that's what her eldest grandson first called them when he saw them.

All she had to do to start the show was sprinkle a little water in the window well and they'd rise up and wiggle around...

Oh, that would be my nightmare having a window full of toads 😑

I started to not like them and after that fear of them when they were behind the entrance gate the the garden of our old house. When I was coming home in the dark already, they were there, waiting for me hahah, in the corner. 🤣

I liked the sound and we had MILLIONS of polliwogs every spring...

I understand your fear of toads and we call them frogs.
Did you know that when a toad urinates on you then you will get warts 😉

That also. You see, even more reasons to fear of them :D

There are some places in the mountain valleys where thousands of frogs hold a chorus performance every night. In my minds eye I can see a handsome big toad and a lady toad dancing on their hind legs holding hands.

So I will now name one of the valleys the "Gabby Valley" as it has a nice ring to it methinks :)

So I will now name one of the valleys the "Gabby Valley" as it has a nice ring to it methinks :)

Fair! Better that than dipping my hair in the inkwell :)

Hahaha, no you are too nice and won't play the piano for me anymore 🤣

I played the piano today and published it... ;P Even if I would have my hair painted with the ink, you can listen to it.

It can not be erased ;D

I also share the fear of accidentally hurting someone :( It's something I've really never identified as a "fear", until I read your post. But it certainly exists.

Ironically, cats scare me 😂 Toads are kinda weird too. But they're kinda cute :)

Maybe it was not the best option by me to call it as a fear.. more like a concern.

Sometimes, having fun we tell jokes and if the other is not in the same mood, can think of that joke as an insult.. It is just one example.... Or cultural differences, maybe in some countries a saying or a word, sign is acceptable and in others it sounds like an offense..

No I totally understand, and I'm with you 100%

It can be tough trying to figure out lines in the sand such as those. My fiancee is from another country with an entirely different culture and when I'm there I'm always really concerned about offending others accidentally because it did happen to me once or twice. And likewise they would say things that here would be completely unacceptable and it's interesting to see those differences.

But yeah, I think I would almost label it a fear. I'm just as "afraid" of that as I am anything else.

Hi @mipiano. Scared of dogs? I can imagine. I was too when I was a kid. As I grew older and we had an alsatian dog at home, I began to understand and befriend them. I guess it's all about knowing them.

Some bigger scare would be hurting someone with words or actions unintentionally.

I'd often wondered why it happens that way. I read somewhere that someone cannot make me feel bad if I do not want to. That means it's up to us how we respond to every situation. We could choose to feel bad or not. Does that make sense? I realised its mostly based on the circumstance and the interpretation we give to the words or actions. I'd like to know how you avoid hurting someone with your words or actions. ☺️

I have a completely irrational fear of public speaking, I don't get stage fright I just start blurting the most inappropriate things...I get sidetracked easily. Same with going to funerals, I hate going to funerals because I end up in hysterics. People look at you really funny when you get the giggles at a funeral.

Otherwise I guess I'm scared of Stinging nettles, don't ask... I got caught sort on a Hike, Didn't know what the were. Not a good toilet paper leaf. My ass hurts just thinking about it.

Oh yeah, and kittens... I don't trust em. Love cats, but kittens are not to be trusted.

This is a good one...Well, bad, but good from the topic perspective.

I think this is something many fear. I used to, but have done a lot of public speaking I guess, so one gets used to it. I apply the fear gives rise to courage thing and just get it done.

I couldn't do the eulogy at my dad's funeral though, last July. I knew I wouldn't get through it and didn't want it to be a mess. He deserved more than that.

I have seen fear of public speaking render people dumbstruck and distraught. Not a good look, or feel I guess. But then, the giggling...Probably not either depending on the circumstances. 🙂

Re: Stinging nettles - Better you than me.

Re: Cats and kittens - Love them all!

Thanks for dropping in!

!ENGAGE 15

Always a pleasure, have a great weekend!

And you too...I may see you around the place. Hope so. Take it easy.

Kittens..!

Thaaazzz Right... Kittens.

A7.jpg

Hahaha that's a whole list! The public speaking and funeral once I get, they're kind of in the same public eye, semi-spotlight situation..

But what have Kittens ever done to you??? 🤣

Kittens are gonna take over the world man, they subject you to those cute little eyes, then before you know it you've taken it home, paid hundreds at the vets for injections and shit. Then you go to bed and it sleeps on your head clawing at your eyes.

Nope don't like kittens they must be avoided at all costs unless I want my house to be overrun.

🤣 fair enough! I can see what you mean 🤣.
The cuteness factor is especially dangerous

Yes, they have taken over. And once they take you, there is no coming back.

😂 I love your fears...they crack me up. The funeral thing is great, I bet most of the ones being thrown at with dirt appreciate a good laugh at their funeral. They look from above wondering why cousin Mike or aunt Marry are sobbing when during lifetime they bothered shit about em.

Fear of public speaking is not so irrational... :) I think we all have a bit of that until we learn to control it :)

Hahaha, the second paragraph is hilarious 😂

Oh no, kittens? =^•^= but they are sooooo cute, but I understand, they can scratch :)

Kittens are my Kryptonite.!!

They will bring my big rig to a screeching stop!

I watched the whole video (but the video stopped at 10:35 and didn't want to load from there..) You can call me crazy now :D Tears came into my eyes at 3:30.. and again with the first attempts to feed him. And yes, a boy, gingers are always boys hehe .funny when he plays with the water.

Poor mama cat :( and just a miracle, how he survived...

I understand about public speaking and maybe I've even messed up a few times, but I don't understand why you should be afraid of kittens hahahaha even though they are used in some horror movies, but in the end they are the cutest.

Kittens
That's how they get you!
Stage 1 Cuteness,
Stage 2 Draining your bank account
Stage 3 Love and suffocation
Stage 4 World Domination.
Its in the white paper... Honest

Kittens...!

You are pretty much spot on.!

I can testify to all of the above.

Attack Kitty (2).JPG

public speaking.
a bit relatable. At times can speak in public. But at times my fear of social interaction turns into a fear of public speaking as well.

Hahahahha kittens. I fostered an extremely unpredictable and violent cat that used to attack me when I slept. It actually sent an ex-girlfriend to the hospital! So I do get a little nervous around cats- can't trust em either

Hi @rubido. Gasps. You giggle at funerals? Whatever for? 😄 Funerals are usually solemn and quiet. Best, you don't attend them then.

😂 Kittens are the cutest. Wait, kittens grow to becomes cats. How do you like cats but not kittens? Lol!

I get stage fright too. In my line of work, I make presentations to a group of people most times. It wasn't easy when I started. I'd practice the things I'll say over and over again. Do you do that? I see the people before in my mind and work with the image. I'd even write the speech in small cards and practice them. It then becomes easy when I do actual presentation.

How do you handle your stage fright?

My stage fright is pretty easy to sidestep, I mostly start blurting nonsense if it gets to me so people assume I'm Drunk, so I just make sure to always hold a beer or a drink if I'm speaking in public.

That way If it gets to me I can just pretend I'm hammered 😁

The giggling at funerals is an overactive imagination, Had a long running joke with a buddy who died a few years ago. He always said he wanted to be buried in Lingerie and clown makeup with an open casket. The casket was closed for the service so I couldn't stop Imagining him popping out in that outfit and dancing to thriller on his coffin.

Highly inappropriate but that's an example. so once again couldn't keep the giggles at bay.

Don't go to funerals much....

I got one that doesn't start with a Ssssssss.

I genuinely fear the information delivered by the postal service. I'm so authentic right now even telling you about it scares the shit outta me and it's morning... 2nd cup of coffee if you know what I mean. I know their hours, their delivery time, their uniforms, vehicle delivery system and routes driven.

Hashtag Scary

Not one time in my however many years of bills did they deliver one energy bill:

Thanks for decades of loyalty, @dandays. This month's on us!

And when they deliver information return addressed to the IRS and Jill (cuz we're on a first name basis like that—Christmas card, the whole 1099) needs to talk to me, I'm terrified. Worse than the highest energy bill any consumer in any summer habitat has ever seen.

Lol. I can remember that I used to think it was cool getting mail. Now...I'm like, what the fuck, more bills.

Last July, the week my dad died...I got a speeding fine. A week later one more then another. $2300 all up and gained 8 demerit points. At 12 it's loss of license.

So...I get you. Mail man can fuck off...Or I could stop speeding I guess. Lol.

I'll wear those demerits for three years before they drop off...Grandad driver now.🙂

I blame the mailman.

Yes! Same page. You understand what I mean then when we spend summer weekends on a river and the best way I can describe it to someone whose never been is: 'The only clock is in the sky and the mailman can't get to you.'

Another interesting topic, sir. I'm going through them now. Maybe it's just me but I didn't realize the number of psychologists we have with us.

Thanks for your support of the WE topic each week...And yeah, everyone is a psychologist these days.

Not sure if you're aware or not but you repeated yourself repeated yourself when you said 150 words 150 words. Interestingly enough, I've seen you mention the wording cap each week and..... well, what I'm tryin to say is, maybe I'm the only who reads it. 🤔

I shit you not dude, if it weren't for these The Weekend threads I'm uncertain I'd ever experience another Friday again. I'm at the point now where the month completely eludes me. So, thanks! It's Friday cuz of you.

All this fluff cuz even typing snakes cauzis type-oh's, accelerated rated heart and a buncha question dodging. I'll try to come back with another fear I can at least type about.

You have 117 words here, in this comment, so it is perfect... fits perfectly :-) Don't edit 🙏😂

It's Friday cuz of you.

It is a nicer sentence saying to someone as far as I have seen!

Sorry to jump into your dialogue with Galen, I just saw that and couldn't skip 💙

Don't you ever apologize for jumping in or I'll blast you with 1,000 words and demand you play'em on the keys!

Challenge me 😜😇

Hehehe, just kidding 🤗

Guessing your favorite movie isn't snakes on a plane?

I'm a chick flick'er.

You know what I mean!!!!!!

Sometimes a double pronged strategy is required to thwart 1000-word nutbaggery.

Ssssssnakes.!?

I am still trying to deal with my fear of a plate fulla' Sea Fleas and Maters... Heheheh

I'll do the dishes, just get that damn snake outta here so I can get off this counter.

In the words of Gene Belcher - "Where are there arms and legs? It's not okay!"

Belcher

Excuse you. But I like your style.

hello @galenkp good afternoon. Excellent the topic that you have proposed for today.
Two things scare me. The things I can't explain and old age
As a child I have lived some years alone with my two grandparents in a huge house that had several rooms, by day it was very fun to be there, the problem was at nightfall, many inexplicable noises were heard, I even got to see things that I did not have Reason to be

Those three years that I lived with my grandparents few people visited them, if I had not been with them they would be totally alone. Seeing this situation made me afraid of getting old and ending up like them.

On several occasions I have dreamed that I was an older person, I see myself alone and abandoned, more than once I woke up crying because of the situation.

I take the opportunity to wish you a splendid weekend that you enjoy very much

Old age...That can bring rise to fear...You're right. I guess it's a good motivator to live the best you can today, be humble and kind and to to move forward without regret.

Thanks for joining in.

!ENGAGE 15

It's true, you have to live life every day and enjoy it to the fullest, as if that day were the last.
Have a beautiful day

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

fear of old age is a bit similar to my fears. I would hate to be paralyzed/ too weak to get up from my bed. Or to forget everything.

how are you @fieryfootprints good day
It's true, loneliness weighs more on me, but depending on another person or not recognizing loved ones must be terrible
Have a great day

thank you. it is a lovely day.

Hey! The old age I get.. I think everyone has to go through a certain process to be at peace with getting older... It helps ofcourse that you can't stop it so you have more reason to accept it.

As to the inexplicable things... My motto is, as long as it doesn't bother me or try to hurt me, I'm looking the other way 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️

I would have to go with not being remembered after I pass away. Doing ancestry research of late, it is amazing how many ancestors (a grandfather/grandmother, great grandfather/great grandmother, etc) I have had that no one knows anything about. Their lives completely lived and lost...all those experiences never remembered by anyone in the current day. I don't know why that scares me so much. Maybe I shouldn't be afraid and live the day, but it does honestly make me sad. And petrified. With one end of the blood line ending with me, it doesn't matter I guess in the long run that no one will remember anything about me, but it does terrify me a bit (or maybe quite a bit!).

Yes, I think of this too...Not a lot, but as I don't have children I wonder who would even know I was around, or care? I suppose the way I htink though is that I'll be dead and so it wouldn't matter to me at that point.

It's life though...Death I mean. You're on the right track I think mate, live now, plan for the future and make the time you have here as good as can be for you. The rest will take care of itself. Be present for Liza and Hattie mate, and yourself. The rest just doesn't matter.

A good fear though man thanks for calling it out.

!ENGAGE 25

I feel this one!
It's the bitter sweet cycle of life! On the other hand it does push you to make an impact while you live and not take it for granted... That being said and impact doesn't have to mean that you become famous, it's that you realize that everything you to from a smile to a hug to kind words had an impact on the people around you and that in turn has an impact on their people....

You are right, you know? I go back and forth with that being enough, but it is tricky...the brain likes to sneak up on you with doubt, you know? I agree with you...just being positive every day to those around you really is all that matters.

I can relate to this as well. Part of the reason why I started making art was because I wanted my art to outlive me. I wanted to leave a mark( or...a footprint😜) in this world.

Very cool, my friend. I'll follow you and check it out too - I guess maybe even leaving a footprint on this blockchain is sort of a mark too, for the long term. At least I'm hoping so, as I'd love for my daughter to be able to read through my posts and whatnot when I'm long gone.

thank you very much.

Quite legit. One we all have deep down, I guess. A fear or a worry...doesn't matter. Still, it is a good thing because it does not stupefy, it drives us towards building a legacy and trying to be our best, rather than doing harmful things.

Marcus Aurelius pointed out that everybody was eventually forgotten and quite fast in terms of Universal Consciousness which is nigh eternal. But here we are, remembering him about 18 centuries later.

Yeah, that is a good point; quite the historical figure too.

Universal Consciousness - what a heavy thought for a Saturday morning, but you are absolutely correct. In the end, I just hope it all makes sense to all of us in some way, shape, or form, you know?

Good morning SageSigma. If you'd like I'll share one of my trademarked catch phrases with you, you're welcome to try it out. If something isn't working out right or someone judges me over something stupid or anything negative, really, anything that I'd rather didn't happen:

'I'll be all but forgotten in 100 years anyway'

Also, since I'm sharing trademarked catch phrases, I don't think this next one will help with your fear but it might come in handy down the line somewhere:

'If you can't fix it with a hammer, it ain't broke'

Enjoy the rest of your weekend! Make the best of it.

'If you can't make the best of it, make the worst of it in the best way'

(That's another one—they come in 3's 3's 3's)

Nice, I like it! One hundred years from now...I can't even imagine what the world will be like at that point. The last thing humanity will probably need is any memory of me - lol

I already forgot what we were talking about. 😉

Nothing sends shivers down my spine more than those dreadful words or more so sentence "My mum's coming over". Am I right fellas? That says alot coming from a bloke that lives in a country where just about everything kills you.

I often cringe at when I hear other women say "my husband and mum get along like a house on fire" I often chuckle inside and think, I'd love to know the REAL story 🤣

Another great topic for another great weekend challenge!

Happy Weeks end everyone

Ohh the legend of the scary mothers-in-law, it's more real than legend. A quite justified and very rational fear.

Haha! I know right. They're scary 😱

Some of them are, brr, quite a rational fear

I have had 3 Mothers-in-law and can tell you that the preponderance of evidence is that you are correct. They are foul creatures indeed. Not so surprisingly my best ex wife also had the best ex MIL.

😱 oh man sounds like a nightmare!

Have you recovered yet? Hard times and I can't imagine going through it 3 times. Hats off to you.

You can be really sure that I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. Just sayin'

But yes. All three were successful as I lived through them.

My friend, I wish I could talk to my mum just one more time. Give anything for her to come over. Unannounced even!! And I won't even talk, stop laughing, I'm serious. I wouldn't say a word, brother, she could just yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yapyap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap.

Always nice to see what you got to say on the weekends, MelbourneWest.

Didn't say I didn't love her, just said I was scared of her

L O L

In that case, fair enough, she was the only woman who knew I had to do whatever she said. all.the.time. Terrifying!

social-interaction

I think that this a combination of multiple things. Like fear of fucking up. Or fear of wasting my time... communication is difficult. I rarely find people interesting. Most of the time interacting with people is very tiring. I have a few friends and meet them very rarely. I hate texting and I make phone calls only if really have to...But I remember that when I was a kid I almost never answered phone calls and just took phone to my parents... So maybe I am making some kind of progress? Maybe I will owercome my communication issues...right before I will kick the bucket.😜

I agree, this fear is very real for many people and is often a combination of a few different elements. It can be overcome though.

What do you think is behind your social-interaction fear/aversion?

!ENGAGE 15

My dad had weak eyes and at some point needed operation. I also have weak eyes( computer and reading also did not help) . So who knows maybe I also inherited my introverd nature and communication problems from someone? Doesn't matter either way-I am who I am.

Have we... do I know... where you from?? As you read this do you make a voice sound for me? That last question has nothing to do with this week's engagement topic or anything, just wondering if you hear it.

WHO ARE YOU?

Should I block my windows?

As you read this do you make a voice sound for me?

No.

Hello, what a good topic for this weekend. Fear is the anguish or distrust that causes us something unknown, fear can be that we see things where they do not exist and produces in us a level of distrust that does not favor us in anything.

I am afraid of heights, because just imagining that I could fall generates anxiety and anguish in me.

Another thing that scares me is failure in the field of any undertaking, that makes me distrust even in myself; for that reason, if something does not work I do it again and again, I insist so as not to feel failed, so it has happened to me with an ice cream business, I have insisted so much that now it is starting to give results.

Heights huh? I've free-fallen before and it's actually quite glorious...As long as one knows there's something to break one's fall, or make it survivable. I think that's the fear maybe...Not so much the fall, the landing and subsequent being dead that comes from it.

The fear of failure is your other one...But it seems you have that all worked out. Well done.

I'm joining in. Fear is my fear, even though fear per se is a very healthy thing cause it prevents us from harm. Biologically.

But modern fears is what we need to fear cause they often are not justified and more psychological. They hinder us to improve, to take a risk which doesn't cost a live, to move forward.

They are implemented by others so you stay calm, don't speak up or demand a change.

Fear the fear and then conquer it, the world might change for a better.

Quite profound your fear of fear. I like this:

Fear the fear and then overcome it.

If we overcome our fears there will be nothing to stop us.

This is a good one. The fear of fear.

Refusing to give in to fear, taking the steps overcome it, is awesome. It means one will do what's required, find the courage to adapt, overcome and take action.

The fear of fear. Nice one!

Definitely a topic to think of. 👌Interesting view point, it goes more into psychology, as the fear can block us to think rationally.

¡Gracias! The psychological fear is a weapon used since our brain evolved. It is the most powerful weapon period and not only used in advertisement or politics but also in our own little private spaces and within ourselves. And you are right it is blocking us. Crazy, I do understand the mechanics but yet get tangled in it myself.

Yes, it is difficult, even if we recognize the psychological game one can play with us, it is not easy to step up. But that is the first step, to see and then try to change the attitude and not let make more harm.

True, that is when civil unrest begins. I saw you are in Spain. It is a perfect example of it. Following the issues for a while and seeing what is happening lately is crazy but necessary. My other halfs parents fled Franco and having the feeling that the country is closer to those times now than within the last years is making us sad. Spain was on our list to go to.

I'm confused. So you fear everything or nothing at all?

Neither nor ;)

Fear! Such a tricky thing... .
I actually have a practical answer and a deeper semi philosophical one (which I might post in the weekend community - nice challenge!)

The practical fear the that truly creeps me out is... Wreck diving! But not just wreck diving it's a specific combination of deep ocean and going INSIDE of a sunken ship that gets me. I watched a couple of documentaries of how they found the titanic or world War 2 wrecks and I cannot for the life of me see myself swimming inside a dark hull! "TO DO WHAT?!? What are you hoping to see Gyanno?!?"
I seriously imagine dead bodies, skeletons, sea 'monster' fish, lots of rust and just darkness....
Haha I'm getting chills just thinking about it... I mean I get exploring but you can leave those to the underwater robocams things!

On a much lighter note, here's me snorkeling at a tugboat wreck here in Curacao... Notice how sunny and light it is.. Also notice how I'm NOT inside! 🤣🤣🤣

Hmm, This is an interesting one. Maybe it's the confined space? Maybe it's the thought of being trapped in there, under water with a limited supply of oxygen? I mean, I think it would be cool to explore like that but yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the ocean. I like walking next it, maybe someone could coax me to walk in it just a little bit...But yeah, otherwise it's best left alone as far as I'm concerned.

Great photo, you look like a merman. Lol.

Have a think about the post in the community...Could be a good one.

!ENGAGE 15

Haha I will take that merman compliment 😎.

Confined space definitely, but also because I imagine people just drowning in there, it's a dark thought but not everyone gets out of those wrecks... And what am I hoping to see is a real question...

Keep walking on the side! It's safe 😃

I have never drowned, of course, but I wouldn't imagine it's a good way to go...It would take some time until the lack of oxygen made one pass out and that time-factor wold leave one with what I could only think would be fear. Of course, once it was all over all would be well.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

That's a very nice picture. How warm is the water?

Thanks! I had to look this up do according to this interesting looking website it's between 27c and 29c 😎

Ok, 'fear' might be a little dramatic for this, but hey...
The biggest fear I have right now is watching something with fantastic potential turning to crap through avarice, greed, naivety, and shortsightedness.
Oligarchs never survive, they only endure - until toppled.
Hive is an oligarchical structure...ergo - it's only a matter of time - if evolution and historical patterns are anything to go off.
Looking only from the social media/free speech platform perspective - i.e not a financial product - I fear that it will be overtaken with other platforms with better governance structures and principals.
I'm in process of trying to mitigate this 'fear' through my own actions...and support is already being vocalized (off hive), so I know I'm not the only one with the same thoughts.
_I did say 'fear' was a tad too hyperbolic an adjective for the subject at hand, but it is a worry...

*** If I manage to diddle convince you, that this fear is worthy of some hive, can you send it to @newexperience instead of lucylin's account, please ?
Cheers, matey

....shit, it's Friday already! (I don't do 'days' anymore)...

Have a great weekend!

Hmm, this could translate to the fear of loss, of losing something. I think it's a genuine fear so has a place on this post. What's good is you taking steps to mitigate that fear.

Let's see what happens Monday, when I transfer some hive. I'll do as you ask if you're one selected.

!ENGAGE 15

Very close... but no cigar ! lol

Did you hear yourself think?

I know I'm not the only one with the same thoughts.

Yeah.. Uh huh, you said that.

Wassup LucyLin? Nice to see you're just as chipper and cheerful as ever! Day Shmay!

Most of the time I think of myself as not a fearful person. Still, fears work even without us thinking about them. Why would I ever be passive, on the defense, not making leaps when, not fully committing ...Ah, here's the one — failure. Learning to deal with that fear is one thing, rooting it out of behavior in many aspects. Failure in general...the fear of it, it is a block that most people experience and so have I. A lot of that prevented me from making the leaps in my development I am making now, once I've grown to realize the same block applies to many things. What if it was real money or other real things at stake. Indecision is worse than fear, mostly. Fight or flight but do not stand mesmerized in the middle of the road.

Everyone has fears - Although maybe a new-born does not at that early stage...Everyone else? They have fears. I never trust people who say they have no fear; I just can't. Firstly it's a lie and secondly, it's a lie.

The fear of failure is a good one though, if one is to have a fear. There are methods to reduce it and move forward without that limitation.

Indecision is worse than fear, mostly.

I guess it depends on the level of fear...Some could render every single other thing in life, ever, as insignificant. Or so I believe anyway. Fortunately most will never come to experience it though.

!ENGAGE 15

Perhaps it was my poor choice of words. As a Psychology graduate I know quite a lot about the role of fear...theoretically. But more fun is to reflect on your own emotions. I know a lot of thing that induce various levels of fear within me.

What I meant with indecision bla-bla was...the threat needs to be dealt with, not feared to the point it's too late to deal with it. I'm all about facing our fears and recognizing when it's fight and when it's flight. When it's call for help. When it's ignore. Etc.

I wish I could properly translate a slang saying in Bulgarian which says the Bulgarian fears two things above all — getting cold and "getting screwed by missing out on a good deal or making a bad deal" (that last part in one slang word only and it rhymes with cold). In original: "Да не настине и да не се мине."

Perhaps it was my poor choice of words. As a Psychology graduate I know quite a lot about the role of fear.

Maybe, I never even finished high school though, so maybe it's just me.

the threat needs to be dealt with, not feared to the point it's too late to deal with it

Legit. That's exactly how it is, in the classroom and in the field too.

That saying translates.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Indecision is worse than fear, mostly.

I agree with you here...fear and indecision are so connected actually.

I had a fear last summer to travel to visit my parents, because of the closed borders, lockdowns, paperwork needed to travel etc. So it was a time of indecision, do we go or not...and it was awful 😐
Once I decided that the trip will not happen, I started to feel better.

Aye, better know that you've canceled some stuff than brooding over it. The fear associated might be "will I return to my usual travelling plans and when...and how..." What we don't know...

Wait, that's one good descriptor of Fear in general — things unknown and out of our (perception for) control.

It is so real, even without us realizing it, fears are there, and we don't realize it because we don't come in contact with the object that causes it. Although maybe you mean that you know how to control your fears, in the end it is for intelligent people not to be paralyzed by them. Greetings, have a nice weekend.

Sure. There's a difference between not fearful, fearless, "devoid of fear" A.K.A. common sense or (part of the) basic instincts, etc. I'm against...irrational behavior due to irrational fear. Being too self-assured is another trouble and I should fear falling into such states again since I get bitten quite often, sometimes literally, because of being too irrationally self-assured about situations. One learns. Hopefully.

I agree that self-confidence is a great quality, but it is a double-edged sword, so it is important to use it well. As you say, having too much of it becomes a problem.

It's as if life invites us to live without extremes, only in the middle ground.

I used to fear failure a lot too. Because I thought that all progress ends when I hit failure. But I learned that failure is only a stepping stone towards more. Not a sentence

Precisely, my dear Watson ;) That is what I am trying to build onto. Honest attempts that might still fear failure but are not deterred by the possibility of it, nor by it happening repeatedly. You fall down, you get up, you go on...

Yup, as long as you get up you're still in it

I enjoyed this so much I stopped by your page. I spent some time at a few of them I didn't have to translate but that Nominally Rich one you did was top shelf.

Stopped by for a quick peak before my full pockets dried up and whatd'ya know?? Drove off in a one at this price damn Lambo! It was on clearance.

Great point there. Some say and I see this one as a possible scenario, too. All people learning how to hodl a bit more and deflation hitting instead of inflation. As some people pointed out, markets can crash both down and...up. But that's another topic. Except that...our fears of possible inflation or deflation scenarios in the near future are...still fears. Perhaps rational...Perhaps too much...We shall see. Anything not sustainable is a bit scary to me. Learning how to deal with it is the trick. In this case...more knowledge and more info, regularly updated...might help...or not. Actions would be needed as well, no? Or is it better to sit it out? Is it possible to sit it out?

I don't think it's possible, no. Whether or not it's beneficial to wait on the side lines and see how the lambo deals unfold is a whole other story.

Hi @galenkp! Hmm, what I fear? First, I believe fear is normal. It's an emotion and so it's normal to feel fear. If we do not, we cease to be humans or value life generally. My opinion anyway.

I fear a lot of things. Insects!!!!! I don't like them at all, mainly because they have too many legs. They appear creepy to me. I get scared when I see cockroaches or spiders. I get panic attacks. 😂 My brother uses this to terrorise me growing up but not anymore. There was an occasion where I was pursued by a flying cockroach at night. For real. 😬

When I sight these insects, I kill them immediately or get my brother or any brave person close to me to do it. Does my fear seem lame? 😔It's a genuine thing for me. 🍀

This is typical of many people I think...For me, It's spiders. Hate them. I meant what's their bloody point?! So...If you're looking for a brave man to deal with spiders for you don't look my way! Lol.

It's not a lame fear, it's just a fear. I'm not one to ridicule a person for a gear as I know how galvanising gear can be, even if it seems irrational to others. So nope, not lame at all.

!ENGAGE 15

😂😂 Spiders?! Good question! I wonder what their relevance is on earth. Rats and mosquitoes too!

You could just use one of those your big boots to step on them. I hear you have some species in Australia that are quite large! 😮 Is that true? If yes, then I may have to wear a body mask when I visit Australia 😂.

We have some very large spiders here, some of the worlds most deadly too...Bring a big bubble to live in whilst you're here!

I fear God.
Psalms 110:11 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth forever.”

I'd not think god required fear, but I'm non-religious so maybe I have no clue. Thanks for joining in though, it's much appreciated.

I guess fear in this case could also be considered a deep respect and/or reverence. When I saw the subject for this weekend, this is the first thing that came to mind.

That I can relate to - I'm pleased you dropped the first thing that came to mind, it makes it more real, less contrived. Much appreciated.

What is fear? A mental fog that attacks the nerves.
My fears were hit out of me a long time ago as I got so many hidings that I learned to ban the fog of fear out of my mind.
It's like a dog that barks at a car, as what is he going to do when he catches the car? Maybe wee on it hahaha.

Why have you mentioned a barking dog? 😜

That is actually great if one can get rid of fears. Unrational ones. As fear, in "normal" dose helps to sharpen our abilities to defend ourselves in danger. But if the fear is not under control anymore, then it is the fog you say.

Mister Prophet 😇😁

Whenever we take little Troy to the dog park, other peoples dogs run to me and their owners have to come and fetch them. But when a big dog comes my wife Marian jumps into the car.
She was bitten by a dog once and it was because of her fear, I then smacked the dog and he ran away.
Dogs can sense fear and then they snap at the fearful person to show their superiority.
They don't see us as people, but rather as a part of a clan that they don't belong to.

In the meantime Marian's fears have improved and believe it or not, the other day she patted a Great Dane dog. One of the biggest dogs that's the height of a small pony.

Continue with the Mister Prophet thing and I will respond with Lady Toadalina 😵 😇

Continue with the Mister Prophet thing and I will respond with Lady Toadalina 😵 😇

My family is asking why I am laughing so much 🤣

Great Dane dog, yes, pretty tall dogs. My sis had a Giant Schnauzer, but Great Dane is even taller.

I know that the dogs can feel if someone is scared, and then it is worse. Totally aware of that. But I just stop walking and I don't want to run or make some movement.

Good, I got you to laugh so my daily job is done. I always strive to get people to laugh as laughter is so very essential in life.

Just a tip here, never look a dog in the eyes when you stand there like a stone pillar, as they interpret it as a challenge.

We are 1 hour ahead of Spain, so I wish you a good night Gabby and may you guys have a good Sunday tomorrow.

I didn't know I should not look the dog right in the eye. Thank you so much for the advice

Thhank you Zac and have a good night and great Sunday!

I think we all have fears of some sort and maybe as time passes they retreat, or even leave altogether...The fear of dying I guess is a good example.

!ENGAGE 15

Agreed with you but and there's always a but.
When a child gets beaten relentlessly and regularly, the fear in anticipation become dulled as the body's natural response. It becomes accepted as a natural occurance and the mind prepares the nerves to accept and protect.
However it also dulls excitement levels as a result. One can develop constant anger, or constant acceptance and either is never a good thing.
You can see that I have looked into this and that I have studied the responses. What it did for me was to work around these issues to lead as normal a life as I can, with the weapon of kindness.
Kindness to the little boy inside me and kindness to all others.
Amazingly true kindness can banish all fears, but you know this methinks.

I don't tolerate people who beat children. I beat back. Have done. Will do it again. I know you'll not approve probably, but there it is.

Neither do I ever since I have become an adult my friend.
But as a small fatherless child there was nothing that I could do about it. At least I kept the teachers busy so that they didn't become bored 🤣🤣🤣

On a serious note, I also learned a lot about the inherent cruelty that resides in some people.

Humans are the most cruel and depraved of animals on the planet. Disgusting really.

That they are, but thankfully there are many people like you and me around that try to make things better for others.
You guys are already inching your way toward Monday and we hope that you will have a good week.

Aurelius is so right. One of my fears... Stairs. See through stairs, you know, the ones that have spaces between them. When I was a kid I was afraid that I could have my foot trapped and somehow I would be pulled down under😨😂 I am still afraid of them but slowly I conquered it. Stairs. Yup. I hate stairs.

Hahaha I know it must seem funny, I realize the absurdity, but I guess this is what makes fears so hard to grasp: their nonsense (most of the times)

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Among all, I think I am afraid of death. Of course, I'm just an ordinary person with a lot of flaws and fears but my experiences even up to this day taught me that it won't be good to be afraid forever. I can't stay always afraid of something. I can't move forward like that.

Death holds fears for many. It's interesting because no one knows what comes after death. I think maybe it's the fear of not having continued life more than fear of death. How can one fear what one does not know?

Anyway, you probably have a lot of life ahead of you so you don't need to think about it all to soon.

!ENGAGE 15

You got me laughing at your last remark! 🤣
But yeah, I'm still young and I still have lots I want to achieve. Of course, I have to learn more since I tend to get immature at times letting my emotions take over me. That is how I think we all progress. Every day is a learning process.

Thanks for the reminder!

Death will come for you sir, and me. It's inevitable. Buy not today. It's not today. Today is for living, so get it done.

Just this week I was meditating on a fear that has been expensive for me. The fear of abandonment, my father and I had a very close relationship, one day when I was 8 years old he was murdered, and in my mind as a child; because of the sudden loss, I only felt abandonment. Now any situation that predicts abandonment in the near or distant future, makes me assume and reject the fact of approaching another person. This has led me to be detached from my friends and to feel constant distrust.

So far I realize this is a problem I need to deal with if I want to build a family, I may even need professional help.

Happy weekend to all!!!

This is a very personal comment and I thank you for sharing it. This fear, based on such a tragic event in your life, is very real...Although you know it exists and I'm sure, should you wish to, you'd be able to step forward and begin to emerge from beneath it's shroud. We are all afraid and lack courage sometimes, myself included...But in taking that first step, hard though it may be, can lead to another...And so on.

Thanks for opening up and sharing your fear.

!ENGAGE 15

Now that I am more conscious I dare to accept it, at least it is the first step to be able to move forward and overcome it.

I'd say, the trick here is to learn to feel good on your own. To know that you will never abandon you and when that is enough, you can easily build more on top. Other relationships which will at least not change who you are and thus are rendered...not scary. A mindset that helped me quite a lot in that field.

It is a good trick, in fact sometimes I have put it into practice, perhaps not with enough objectivity because in the end I always end up where I end up.

So far I am aware that I should be firmer when I try it.

Interesting. Yours was murdered and I never met mine. I can relate to the abandoned part because, well, it started happening before I was even introduced to oxygen.

Sucks to be him!

But I don't fear it. I think I embrace it quite differently actually to where I expect it and it's funny when it happens. Things like relationships and stuff, I just stayed single most my life, avoided the whole issue. Took me over two years to realize my now wife wasn't leaving.

Not a fear, though, I think it paves the way for good jokes actually.

Happy Saturday Argeh.

Wow yes, very similar scenarios although somewhat different. I like the outcome. I'm still learning how to deal with this, maybe I'll get over it quicker and can look at it from a fun perspective.

Have a good weekend, hugs.

I think one needs to focus on living the moment, what's around them now but also planning ahead. It's a balance. There's little point fearing things that one can't control so be in the moment and you'll probably have a better life.

Thanks for joining in this week.

Will ponder over this fear, this will be one for the history books....

Say no more, have a great Friday.

!BEER sundowner time!

Have a great weekend too Joan. I'll be spending most of mine nibbling on biltong.

My other silent addiction is biltong, don't leave any anywhere close to hand, poof it's gone!

Haha...I've been eating through mine at an alarming rate...And loving it.

My biltong is also kaput till next week....

Well you got me thunking, all 272 words sorry a little long winded, but when munching away at the biltong one damned scary thought crept up on me....

Yup you got my fear factor down in words, a deep dark one too!

I do have a fear of being blind. Ever since I lost my right eye I’ve prepared myself to be blind. I ALWAYS wear safety grade glasses. I watch out for what I do and just refuse to do some. I ‘practice’ walking around my house in the absolute dark so that I can get around if I absolutely need to.

I KNOW how to pour coffee and other liquids into a container without spilling. I learned that skill from a blind young woman a long, long time ago.

I had a slight accident that makes this really current. My eye is weeping and forming eye boogers at a high rate. If I were normal I’d cover that eye for a day and everything would be just fine. As it is, it takes all I’ve got to keep my fingers out of it. AArrrrggggghhhhh.

DON'T READ THIS IF YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT RESTRICTIVE WORD TOTALS There is a consequence. Friday, yesterday, reading was not so comfortable for me so I didn't do much. Depending on how it goes today, I may or may not be fully engaged around here.

I'm sure you've mentioned along the lines somewhere but what happened? What's going on with your eyes? Blindness is a genuine fear I'm certain we all share.

If someone plays the ultimatum game and they're "if you had to sacrifice either your vision or hearing, which one?"

I can't answer that question.

Well, I lost my right (dominant) eye in an accident when I was 20 (50 years ago). Obviously I've lived with it ever since. Thursday I managed to put some shampoo directly into my eye and in a pretty good panic scratched the eyeball itself. So it's not behaving as normal, and when you only have one it can be pretty near debilitating.

It is better today so I'm sure it's going to be just fine. But it triggered possibly my greatest fear at just the right time!

My brother's hearing is just tragic, infact, he's just recently been tested to see if he is a candidate for the implant system. I think, honestly, I'd rather lose my sight. No music? That would be just awful.

Such a tough call. iheart hearing and seeing, "guilty!"

70? I didn't know. Much respect sir. 👍🏿

Yep...That's a legit fear. I'm diabetic and so it's a reality for me possibly.

I wonder what people (me) would choose if one had to lose one sense, sight or hearing...To be honest I htink I'd choose to lose hearing as I'm very visual...Although there's some things I'd probably rather die than not here. Maybe a topic question here?

Thanks for joining in...I counted the words bro, looks like 150 to me. 😉

Hey Erik, as per the text ☝️ dropping links here isn't the concept...It's for comments and engagement.

I would say one of my biggest fears was not having enough time to pull over to the side of the rode, get my helmet off and puke my guts out. It is a lot easier to stop a car, open the door and throw up than being on a motor bike. I did have to sale my motor bike because of that, I could no longer ride one safely at least not in my mind. That was a long long time ago when I first got sick. I did get over that fear, but then something new happened, aging and other health issue, so some new fears, but not being able to ride those few months out of the year up here still sucked.

That would suck, I agree! As a fellow motorbike rider...Yeah, vomiting into my helmet is not something I'd be keen to do more than once. It never happened to me fortunately - I sneezed in it a few times...Also not so good.

So much changes as we age and or our health deteriorates. Doesn't mean life stops or anything like that, but fears do get more real, or so it seems.

Oh I'm sorry I missed this. I posted today about Landrovers but I would have liked to have answered this one. I'm not sure I'll have time now - missed my Friday post delivery! xxx I'm not scared of much, not your traditional phobias anyway, but whenever Jamie starts up a chainsaw I get a bit nervous. And I'd never sleep on a cliff ledge half way up a mountain on a bivouac either.

Still 18 hours to go.

Chainsaws? Come on, they're legit!

I go into 'worse case scenario' and wondering if I'd love a legless or armless man.

Lol...I get it. I almost took my leg off at mid-shin when I was nine. My chainsaw rights were revoked for a while.
