So we got home from vacation and met up with some family, and went on into the city centre for a bite to eat. The sun was shining, as it has been all week, and I was snapping away at the sights as we went - I just cant get enough of the architecture we have here in Edinburgh.
We stopped at St Mary's Cathedral in the West End of Edinburgh - I was keen that we atleast had some culture during out trip into the city centre !
The sun was so bright that I was having to take pics with the sun behind the spires in order to get anything decent !
I just love the cathedral, its such a pretty building. We also went inside, but they dont allow photography when there is a service or performance underway - so I only have outdoor pics.
The carvings are quite amazing as can be seen here above the front door.
And the cloudless blue sky was acting as a really nice background for the bell towers.
It really is a great place to stop and visit - we dont do it as often as we should.
We also took a long cut through the garden in the middle of Charlotte Square. I say long cut because only one gate was open, so we walked all the way through, only to have to retrace our steps and walk all the way around the outside again !
Charlotte Square also has some pretty nice buildings - one of the buildings above is the official residence of the First Minister of Scotland (the political leader of our country) - but I dont know which one !
And I just love this domed building on one of the other sides of the square.
And the colourful chap above was on the corner of the square. Another art series of sculptures painted by different artists.
On the way back home we took another shortcut through the gallery of modern art, and managed to capture this sculpture in the sunshine.
So we had a lovely trip in and out of the city centre - and the sights are just awesome, we are so lucky to live here.
And now we are just relaxing and recovering from a busty week of sight seeing while on vacation. I hope you are all having a great weekend too !
All the best from Scotland.
