Rethinking My Strategy After Seeing My Land’s Base PP Share

Will it be enough?.png

I was genuinely shocked this week after running the numbers on my Base Production Points (PP) in Splinterlands and realizing that my share of total Base PP is far lower than I expected. Despite being ranked among the Top 25 players across multiple land metrics—including total Base PP—I discovered that my current production won’t even guarantee me a max set of cards during the initial three-day guarantee window for the upcoming Land card crafting launch.

It was an eye-opening moment that made me step back and reassess my entire approach heading into this next major phase of the game.

How Did I Miss This?

Like many long-time landholders, I’ve spent months preparing for this release—stockpiling resources, optimizing worker staking, and even expanding my production footprint. So, seeing that my percentage of total Base PP still isn’t enough for guaranteed max cards was a surprise.

The reason, as it turns out, is simple but sobering: the scale of the Land economy has exploded. The aggregate production capacity across all players is enormous, and even being near the top isn’t the same as having dominant share anymore. That makes sense in hindsight—this is one of the most competitive economies in Web3 gaming—but it still stings to realize that all that effort may not guarantee a full yield out of the gate.

Big Costs, Uncertain Returns

The other factor weighing on my mind is the cost of these new cards. Crafting them requires a massive amount of resources and DEC, which means that even the most prepared players will be burning through significant capital just to participate at scale.

The benefits of the cards are undeniably attractive—they’ll enhance Land efficiency, production, and synergies across the ecosystem—but I’m starting to wonder whether the return on investment will be immediate or more long-term. Without Land 2.0 fully rolled out, it’s difficult to calculate whether these early costs will justify themselves anytime soon.

That said, Splinterlands has always rewarded early adopters who build patiently, so I’m torn between caution and conviction.

The Grind Ahead

What seems clear now is that crafting will be a slow grind for most players. Only those at the very top with massive PP shares will likely reach max-level cards during the guarantee window. The rest of us will need to pace ourselves—focusing on gradual progress and resource optimization over time.

Still, I expect the rarer cards—especially Epic and Legendary variants—to sell out quickly, perhaps within the first few weeks. That FOMO is already visible across the market: resources, cards, and even Chaos Legion packs have all jumped in price since the announcement.‌

This experience has been a humbling but valuable reminder of how vast and dynamic the Splinterlands economy has become. Even as a top-tier landholder, I can’t take production or positioning for granted. The playing field has expanded, and competition is fiercer than ever.

For now, I’m revisiting my strategy—considering whether to reallocate resources, liquidate underperforming plots, or focus more narrowly on key production chains. Regardless of the path forward, one thing is certain: the next phase of Land is going to reshape the game once again, and I plan to stay right in the middle of it—learning, adapting, and, hopefully, crafting some powerful cards along the way.
