Ada had always wondered what it felt like to be at wit's end. Now she was feeling it. She had not the faintest idea about what to do. She could not call the police neither could she just run away from everything. --Where would she go? What would happen to Kaz?-- She also was definitely not playing courier for some mischievous kidnapper. Who knew what they could be up to, she certainly was not going aid his terrorist intentions, whether under duress or not.
With the back of her left hand, she wiped away the tears trickling down her cheeks. Just then her phone beeped again. Reluctantly, she glanced at the screen and saw that it was a WhatsApp message from Bukky. Bukky was texting to ask how the dinner was going. The bond between Ada and Bukky had been more like that of a set of twins rather than friends who had crossed each other's paths during school days. While Bukky was married to a Police officer with two kids after three years of graduation, Ada was still bachelorette, waiting for Mr Right.
All week, the dinner had been the hot gist between the two friends. Bukky had giggled excitedly, thrilled that Addie --her nickname for Ada-- had finally found love. Or would be finally finding it.
'Hehehe. I'll be texting you all the way to know how it goes.' Bukky had said, as they both chatted the previous day.
'Oh, come on, Bukky, you're too old for that girly anxiety now.' Replied Ada.
'Why, because I'm married and have kids now?' They had ended up laughing loud.
*Kissed yet?*
Ada looked at the message and could have giggled heartily at it, except that she was sitting on a throne of thorns at the moment.
Then an idea crossed her mind. She could inform Bukky of everything on WhatsApp without having to call her with the risk of their conversation being tapped by the kidnapper.
Bukky, I'm in serious trouble!!
Kaz has bin kidnapped nd I'm being blackmailed. I think my fone is tapped too.
I'm going crazy. Don't knw wat to do
*What? How did it happen?*
*Calm down. Wat re u bin
blackmailed for?*
They want me to drop a package at a park in 40 mins.
I'm scared.
*Don't do anything.
I'll call the
police from my end.*
No, pls, don't. I've bin warned not to or else Kaz dies
*Forget abt Kaz now. U're
the one who's not safe right
now. I'll be at ur place
with the police soon. Till
then just stay indoor nd
make sure ur door nd
windows are locked.*
*Everything'll be fine*
But what abt Kaz. He'll be killed if you call the police.
*No, he won't. Trust me,
Addie.*
A jot of relief came upon Ada. She had always found confidence in the words of Bukky so she trusted her whenever she said all will be well. Now, all she had to do was to wait for the police to arrive. But then what if it didn't work out? What if the kidnapper had somehow caught a whiff of her chat with Bukky?
You’ve got an interesting series going, @hillarypowers. I think it would be a great idea to let people know that they can read the other episodes. You can do this by editing the title to include the number in the series and adding links to the previous and next issues at the top of the post.
Otherwise, your readers will think these are short stories and feel confused.
Nice job of building suspense.
