The scientist's watch

On the counter of a shop there is a cute alarm clock, with coloured hands and an illustration of a mouse moving its eyes to the rhythm of the clock's ticking.

"Sir! Please, could you sell me the clock?" exclaims a lady inside the shop.

"Yes, of course, is there anything else you would like?"

"Wrap it in wrapping paper."

The lady had her hands full with other things she had bought, but she managed to squeeze in time to take the gift home, which was not far away, although her bags were still heavy.
A physics teacher named Rodrigo saw the lady's discomfort and came to her aid.

"Let me help you.

"Yes, thank you, my hands were already tired," the lady replied.

Upon arriving home, the lady invited Rodrigo to spend a moment.

"Come on, professor, rest for a moment and I'll give you a drink to refresh your thirst.

The professor watches silently as the lady takes out her shopping supplies and just at that moment his six year old son arrives and asks.

"Mum, what's that present on the table?

Rodrigo moves his eyes to look at the gift

"That, that's for you Jaime, I bought it for you this morning, open it". Said the mother

The boy was happy and began to contemplate it and he saw how the hands moved and the eyes of the impregnated drawing moved from one side to the other and he heard the sound of the alarm clock ringing.

And he engaged in a series of questions to his mother as if it were an interrogation and all this was going on while the teacher was watching them.

"Mum, why is the clock ringing, how do they make the hands move, what makes the mouse painted on it move its eyes?

The mother didn't answer, just smiled at him and continued unpacking the shopping, then the boy said.

"Let's tear it up and see what's inside".

The mother got angry and banged the table and scolded the boy saying.

"Jaime, don't even think of breaking it, I don't know why you break everything, what's wrong with you".

The teacher interrupted saying.

"Madam, forgive me for butting in, the great scientists of the world are endowed with great curiosity, the same curiosity I see in your son now".

The teacher called the boy and together they explored the mysteries hidden in the clock while the mother watched with pride as her son was fascinated by each gear and each piece that was in that cute and cute coloured clock.

The teacher, smiling, turned to look at the mother and said: "children are all scientists, it is the parents who deprive them of their desires so that they do not harm their material possessions"

I don't have any special talents. I'm just passionately curious

I forgot this was a story, this is so true, we can't limit our children just because they would break some stuff, I mean, they're only children.

There is no more curious little person than children who want to touch and feel everything and it is their parents who unintentionally take away their desire to investigate by saying "leave that alone" "don't touch".

It appears the person with something to learn was the mother, in this case! Sometimes one must break something to reverse-engineer it and learn how it works.

Thanks for sharing your story in The Ink Well, and for reading and commenting on the work of other authors.

yes, in this case the needs for research and ingenuity are consented and increased for the child.

I can't blame the mom in this case! When you get special things for your kids, and the next thing you know they're in pieces, that would get very expensive and frustrating. It was great when the mom took the advice from the teacher and decided to let Jaime learn by taking it apart.

hehehe if you let a child break things they would end up with everything, but there are children who do it out of curiosity and not because they are bad. Thanks for commenting.
