Oh, Brigitte! Wake up!

in The Ink Well2 years ago

Brigitte is still in a coma, 3 weeks have passed since that fatal accident. It all happened on her birthday, it was early Sunday morning, she was with a friend in a nightclub and when they left there, she insisted that she wanted to wake up on the beach, it was an hour away and on the way the young driver lost control, she was thrown through the windshield, she had taken off her seat belt just before because it bothered her, when they came to rescue them, they found her almost dead on the pavement and Stephen was in shock looking at her.

Brigitte had fractures to her right femur, lacerations to her body, but the most serious was a skull fracture. She was intervened immediately, the fragmented bones of her head were placed in her place, but she still had to wait for her to wake up.

Next to her was her mother, who had never left her side, Raquel's life had stopped since Brigitte's accident, she simply could not do anything but wait for her princess to open her eyes, she begged her God every day.

Today Raquel has been mainly nostalgic, tears are running down her cheeks, she has been reviewing Brigitte's life and what it has meant for her own life.

Raquel could not have children, she adopted Brigitte who is really her niece, her sister got pregnant when she was in high school, but she had a complicated delivery and died. Raquel was already married when this happened, and although she had not planned it, she did not hesitate for a moment to adopt that little girl who came into her life.

Shortly after, when they decided to have children of their own, her husband Zackary developed prostate cancer, and although he managed to survive it caused infertility.

Brigitte was a lifeline for them to overcome this difficult stage of their lives, and they consolidated much more as a family.

Since she was a child, Brigitte was very active, she loved to practice rhythmic dance, and she also danced everything she heard, which always made Raquel laugh. She was vibrant, she had that spark of joy that thawed even her mother's most hidden sadness, and smoothed out her father's frown.

Zackary couldn't resist her tender gestures either, and no matter how tired he came from work, she always found a way to make him smile, for him she was his balm.

Brigitte had also shown musical abilities, since she was little she played the piano, her fingers flowed in harmony with the keys, she played the works of Vivaldi, but she also liked to play more current songs. One day, on his birthday, Zackary swooned when she played some songs from "Queen" for him, especially the song Bohemian Rhapsody.

Brigitte was brilliant at mathematics, it was easy for her to understand all that world of numbers that seemed so complicated to Raquel, who has a degree in psychology.

With her outstanding grades in high school, Brigitte got the scholarship to study Economics, a career she completed in the blink of an eye.

Raquel was alone in the waiting room, in silence, remembering, and with a sigh she lets out this sentence: _And now that she was doing very well in the company where she started working, this happens, a brilliant life that goes out, and all because of Stephen.

Just at that moment Stephen comes in, who has been very aware of Brigitte, she has been his love since childhood, and he feels terrible guilt for everything that has happened. He would like to be in her place and feels the reproach of Raquel, who has complained to him several times between tears why nothing happened to him, why he wanted to take Brigitte to the beach, why... To which he never he replies, just stays silent.

This time he couldn't take it anymore, and he went out to the parking lot, went to his father's car, and locked himself in to cry like a child, like he had never cried before, he cried and prayed, he begged God for Brigitte.

When he calmed down, he went back into the hospital, but he no longer wanted to get close to Raquel, he preferred to give her space.

Zackary used to go to the hospital before going to work and back too, in the first week he was in the waiting room with Raquel, but he felt he was going crazy, that's why he preferred to go to the office for a few hours.

Zackary is entering the waiting room when he hears that Brigitte Carter's relatives are called to go to the Intensive Care Unit.

Raquel gets up from the seat, looks at Zackary who is holding back tears, she wants to run, but her legs are shaking, Zackary takes her by the hand, and they walk quickly. Right behind comes Stephen, who doesn't plan to leave until he knows the status of her great love.

Upon arrival, the doctor on duty tells them: _I can't explain what happened, his vital signs have weakened, and I think it's time to say goodbye.

They allow the three to enter the room, Stephen entered fearing Raquel's reaction, but she just wants to take her little girl's hand and let her go in peace.

Zackary and Raquel at one side of her bed, each touching her hand, Brigitte sighed. Raquel remembers the day Brigitte was born, and now she sees her as vulnerable as she was at that moment, and she can only tell her: _Thank you for letting me be your mom!

Zackary hugs Raquel, and they can no longer contain their tears. Stephen just looks at Brigitte, can't take his eyes off her from her, and is the one who notices that Brigitte woke up!

Thank you very much @emeka002! I'm glad she woke up too. 😊

Thank you very much @pixresteemer! 😊

This was a hard story for me to read, as I imagined myself in Raquel's position, and the one in the coma being one of my daughters, and the very idea made me shudder! I was amazed and happy when she woke up at the end the of the story. It definitely did not seem like it was going to end well. Nicely done, @mjvdc.

Yes @jayna, when you are a mother, you can imagine the pain of another mother. I was also moved while writing the last part, the fear of losing a child is shocking.

This is so sad. Tell me she survived tho. My heart aches for Racquel tragedy piles up on her and I hope they too survive

@creepymeow Fortunately, everything turned out fine. 😊

Brigitte had become the light and love in Rachel and her husband's life, a light that was almost extinguished with a terrible accident. Good subject and with a great ending, as emotional as it is special ☺️.
Magnificent story @mjvdc 👏👏👏👏👏
