A fur parent

In the province of Cebu, there was a kind and loving fur parent named Missy. 6 months ago she found a baby cat, looked soaked from the rain and ill. She's a cat lover but she never thought of adopting one, she knew the risk. For her, it was not easy to take good care of a pet, and she didn't want her to leave them unattended. She was well aware that it needs time and care like having a child. She felt sorry for those pets who were left alone and she didn't want to do it with them.

Even so, when she found that baby cat kept on meow-ing. She felt like something different vibe touched her heart not to leave that cat or else it would die. She looked at the surroundings as if no one would really get that cat. She thought there would be one better since she was so busy at work. She waited for an hour but she thought that time was enough for her to take care of that cat. She might be late too if she would spend more time watching over that cat if someone would get it.

Months went by and that cat grew bigger. Mik-mik was his name and Missy used that name in the memory of her cat's neighbor who died long ago. She loved that cat very much but due to an illness, that cat was dead. She was very sad, she felt the pain as if that cat was her own.

Missy loved her cat so much that she treated it like her own child, as a baby boy. She tied him up when she went outside for a walk. People thought that was too much but they didn't understand how Missy loved her cat. Safety was in her mind for doing that. Also, she misheard people nearby who belittled her cat because it's not an expensive one but why treated like that. She was mad hearing them. She thought that if you love someone there should be no boundaries or differences. Of course, she didn't get mad at those people knowing her attitude.

What she did was hug Mik-mik even more in the crowd. Giving food like what Missy ordered in a restaurant. Treated like a child who was with her while being outside. Still, she's not satisfied and she thought of ranting on social media to express how she felt. Some people sympathized with her but still, some people didn't. She thought what she did was wrong, not all people could understand her. She deleted her post and decided to ignore the other people as long as she was so happy taking care of her cat Mik-mik.

One afternoon when she went home, Mik-mik was nowhere to be found. She was not bothered because for some time she saw Mik-mik playing in the neighborhood. However, whenever she looked she couldn't find Mik-mik and she was worried. She couldn't sleep for that whole night, Mik-mik was in her mind. She couldn't stop herself anymore but cried. She was worried and didn't know where to find Mik-mik.

The next morning while she was still spacing out. A child from the next house who played Mik-mik most of the time told Missy about her cat. She rushed immediately to make sure if Mik-mik was really there. To Missy's surprise, she saw Mik-mik playing with another cat from another block. She explodes into tears after seeing Mik-mik. She asked permission from the owner's house to come in to get her cat.

"So it's your cat."

The owner asked her while opening the gate. It's a good thing that person was kind and let her get inside right away. She wanted to carry Mik-mik and bring it home but she's going to work. She just asked that person to let Mik-mik stay because he has a playmate there. Missy thought that Mik-mik should play with other cats too. She's doing the responsibility and even the loving but playing the same as him she couldn't give.

Thankfully, that person allowed Mik-mik to stay and to play with her cat as well. That person was a fur parent too and she felt relieved knowing it. She kissed Mik-mik with a goodbye and left.

END...

Hello @mrnightmare.net,

This story is lovely. In my house we always have had rescue animals--cats, dogs, even mice. In the end, Missy did the right thing. Missy showed true love for Mik-mik, by doing what was best for the cat.

I believe, though you don't say it here, that Missy will visit Mik-mik many times in the future.

No, Mik-mik will be there for a while but Missy will get him after work.

Thanks

Thank you for posting this gentle story in the Ink Well community. You manage to foster affection for the cat, and admiration for the human. And, thank you for engaging with other authors in the community.

Maybe because that's what I feel towards the cat and that's the reason it was easier for me to express through words.

What a charming story, @mrnightmare.net. I always love cat stories, especially when they are well cared-for cats.

Thank you, I thought of touching different genres and characters this time.
