To Live, To Love

She is there from the early afternoon, smoking cigarettes one after another with her reddish shade on. Nothing interrupted her stillness until a Starling with a tiny insect in its beak landed on the hood. Its tiny claws struggle to stand still on the slippery slope of the frontier; screeches, and finally, flaps to get in the right position. Rebecca turns around.
Ah, a bird; she would exclaim, but not today. Something is clouding her mind today, an innate struggle to find a reason to live, to love, again.- @r-nyn

At Nightfall

She walked and walked, not stopping once. Knowing she had limited time till her parents found her, she tried some distance between them. She also tried not to spend her money anyhow. She tried working odd jobs which gave her enough money to eat twice a day. Every day, she worked during the day and ran during the night. A week later and she finally got to the boundary of her destination, the only village where she could get a bus without drawing the attention of her parents. Though she was paranoid that people would recognize her, she tried to put herself at ease as she doesn't look the same. The clothes she wore looked ragged and dirty from overuse, her hair in knots, her skin dark and crusty and she was slimmer than she was before but she didn't care.- @abigail04

The wanderer

Not a day passed when someone didn’t look at me, but in the end, they left with another which was fine with me until I realized that those who were with me when I came had left and I was the only one remaining.
I started craving what the others wanted, at least if I had that I would have left too but, weeks and months passed and no one still wanted me.
I was exhausted and lonely, because no matter who joined me, they were sure to leave before me.- @khaleesii

The Reader Became Exhausted. Or would they become exhausted?

Cover created in CANVA using free elements.

Shall we try again? The reader, feeling disorientated now, would ordinarily agree passively, except they had reason to pause. They lingered on the question of the writer. Had the writer deliberately used the inclusive pronoun to hint that the use of the third person, in the opening sentence, was now being clarified as the reader, despite the awkward, ‘You’ not being used? Or was it, they thought, that it is to say, the reader, that they, let me clarify this as the writer, made an attempt to re-engage the reader into the story, without meaning to offer the reader was the subject of the opening sentence?- @lordtimoty

What The Gecko?

image.png

Oh, thank goodness! I got into the bathroom and shut the door behind me. I didn't think trains had bathrooms. I rushed to lock the bathroom door quickly so I could finally get some rest. What a relief that was, that is, until I turned around and I saw it there!
A gecko on the toilet seat!
Eight year old me quickly unlocked the bathroom door, got out, shut it back and walked briskly back to where Mummy and Lex sat. I tapped Mummy.
"Yo, Mummy."
"(sigh). What is it again, Gregg?" I interrupted her work again.
"There's a gecko on the toilet seat," I said, pointing to the end of the corridor. - @drstrings

Granny And Her Ginger

image.png

Source

“Oh my lord! Is that the Ginger I’ve heard so much about!? Com’meer, Gingy-poo!” Granny opened her arms up wide and smiled at me.
Gingy-poo!? This woman was insane! I stayed away from her, curling up as she tried to walk over to me, gripping her cane.
Travlery explained to Granny that I might need some time to get used to her and that she should stay away from me for now. Stay away was right. I already didn’t like Granny.- @restcity
