Hello and welcome to our new fiction writing prompt for this week. We will also share some highlights from last week!

Highlights of the Week

Thank you to everyone who posted a story for last week's prompt, “Beauty with a Twist." Every story did a fantastic job of describing the beauty of surroundings, people or nature in vivid detail. We enjoyed reading them all and sprinkling special rewards on the fiction posts as well as the wonderful comments!

Please be sure to visit these stories, read them and share your thoughts with the authors:

This Week’s Prompt

The prompt for this week is "The way home."

How you interpret it is completely up to you and your imagination. To get you thinking, we'll share some ideas.

Everyone has a sense of "home." Many of us feel ensconced in our homes. Some of us have had to flee our homelands, or perhaps leave a difficult person or painful situation. But we all have a little bit of "homing pigeon" in us as well.

What might the complex mix of love and pain mean for your character? Perhaps your character went away and is now experiencing many roadblocks in returning. Or your character returns home and it has changed drastically, or bears no resemblance to the "home" of longing and imagination. Or your character is a child run-away who only makes it a few blocks from home and realizes that the world is a colder, lonelier place, the further he gets from his family... even if they punish him or make him mad sometimes.

We look forward to reading your stories!

Good luck! And of course, remember the important elements of good fiction:

  • A good setting
  • Character development
  • Conflict
  • Dialog
  • A story arc and resolution

Weekly Prompt Rules:

  1. You have a week to write for the prompt, until the next one is posted. (Note: You can write for any of the prompts anytime. This is just a guideline to be included in the weekly round-up of highlights.)

Thank you for being the first one to join the prompt this week, @amirtheawesome1!

This prompt inspired me to write a sci-fi short story. It has been a little while since I've written any fiction, but I thoroughly enjoyed letting my imagination take me away today 🙂
