Relic war too good in this meta?

Hello everyone,

It has been a while since I was able to play gods unchained for more time since I had a very busy time at work which finally now went down a little bit. So for the last couple of weeks I was only able to try out decks only during weekend ranked matches and they would ruin some matches for me sometimes.

But finally now I am back and was very excited to try out decks again without worrying about losing some of my weekend ranked games because of a bad deck that I expected to be good or not being able to pilot it well. So this week I decided to try out the relic war deck, which is basically the 1 turn OTK where you kill your opponent in 1 turn with a relic hit.

I expected this deck to do good because of how much control or mid range decks there are out there and I have to say it did not disappoint at all. So in this post I will be showing what deck I used and explaining how it works for new players or players who never saw it before:

The deck

 "deck.png"

This is one version of this deck that they all look almost the same though. So this deck is all about getting the cards you need for 1 HUGE blow to the opponent face with a relic and a hit that can deal up to 20 22 damage with the relic buffs that you have.

So this deck works with having a relic, buffing it first with the Whetstone which gives it a +4 damage and then give another +2 and doubling the damage with the Unrestrained Power which can make the relic strength reach up to 20 damage. And since all relics are Godblitz you get to hit these 20 on the same turn.

Must have cards

Now all cards are almost important in this deck, but there are some that you can never replace or the deck won't work at all which are:

I need a weapon

 "i need.png"

This is the first piece of the puzzle. With this card you will get a relic which will probably be the one you will use to deal the blow in case you did not get any one of the relics you have. As long as it is godlitz, and with the empowerment it has it's a game changer and must have in this deck.

Whetstone

 "whetstone.png"

This is the second piece of the puzzle and the card that will give the first buff to your relic. Without this deck will not work at all since you will lose a lot of your valued relic damage not only 4 but 8 since it will be doubled!

Unrestrained Power

 "unrestrained.png"

And the third and final piece of the puzzle the one that will double your relic strength and give it that huge one shot potential. It is pretty obvious that this deck does not work at all also without this card or else its a completely different deck.

Secondary cards

Now after seeing the crucial irreplaceable cards, let's talk about the secondary cards and what purpose do they serve.

Card drawing cards

 "encumbered.png"

This deck requires you to have several specific cards in your hand at the same time, and this is very tough to acquire as soon as possible without cards draws. So having these 2 card draw is so important to get the cards you need. They can be replaced by any card draws you see fit if available.

Game finishers

 "trio.png"

These serve the purpose of dealing that little bit of damage that can end the game in case the relic hit was not enough (which probably won't be). It will get your opponent so low that you can finish him off with these or with the god power.

My replacement for some used cards

There are some versions of this deck that uses other cards that I do not own, so I had to replace them with my own cards and these are:

Out of its misery for Tavern Brawler

 "rep 1.png"

Although this change might not be the most optimal one, but this was my best choice to replace this card with since Out of its misery is usually used to get a creature that will help you clear I tried adding a creature that helps this purpose.

Scyhtes of the Heaven for Dead man's flail

 "rep 2.png"

Some decks use this relic in them, however since I did not have it I replaced it with this one that I bought a while ago for another relic deck, and this they are almost the same and there are not huge differences between them I think this would help the same purpose just fine.

Matchups and Results

I tried this deck for 12 games straight and here are the results and how it went:

So the deck did very well with me in my 12 matches. I would say the only 2 things that might cause trouble for this deck after trying it for those matches are either frontlines or Cutthroat Insight which lost me the deception game. But overall it worked really well and I might very well play it in weekend rank we will see about that.

Final Thoughts

It was very fun to try out new decks again without having to worry about losing, this way you can go all out in adding whatever random cards and also get used to piloting it without losing important weekend event matches.

This deck was very fun and did very well with me, and I would say it is also very efficient for the people that wants to play their matches fast because it is usually over at 5,6 mana maximum 7 if things went out of hands. And also it was very effective but it is so based on getting the cards that you need for the OTK which can be quite risky sometimes.

That was it for this post, I had tons of fun trying this deck out so I hope you like and let me know in the comments if you ever played this version of relic war or still not yet and if not be sure to try it out it might be your new go to playstyle when you are in a hurry. And as always be sure to drop a follow if you like the decks I post, I make sure to post the best and most fun decks out there that should work in each meta. And lastly good luck for everyone this week and hope you all a good evening.

Mad Love, Peace out <3

I played Control Magic this weekend and Relic War killed me haha. How come you didn't double up on Defiant Farmer instead of Beam Sentry?

I used to always get clapped from war relic when I played control magic haha. The idea behind beam sentry here is that if you got a swing with it it can help clear early game strong creatures sometimes but if you don't which is 90% of the time you wouldn't need more than the damage you already have

Looks like I worked really well! Can you lay out how a winning turn unfolds? It seems like you have to play more cards than you have mana to get it all done in one turn.

Usually with the relic empowered from I need a weapon it have 3 durability which is very tough to remove in 1 turn and in the next one you do the KO combo with whetstone and unrestrained power it cant be done all in one turn as you said except at 8 mana which the game should be already over by then :p
