Splinterlands weekly challenge and this week theme is HORNY TOAD
Neutral melee attack monster. Not really the monster I do rush to level up, so again will be talking about this card acting at 1st level of battles. So what do we have? Low melee attack +1, very low speed +1 and low life +2 only with Reach ability. And still of 3 mana cost. Oh well, really not the favorite card to be used, even if it is Neutral Monster and actually can be used with any splinter.
At this point this week challenge is a REAL challenge to win with it :)
Thinking which fight conditions could be still favorable to use the card, following suggestions comes to mind.
First of all and maybe most fitting fight condition is Equalizer. Yeah, lets pump up the Life and this beauty Frog can stay alive for quite a longer time, and even more if protected by Summoner's armor. Any friendly monster giving additional Melee attack by the same time could make this little creature a fighting Berserk :D
It actually took me 8 fights (and I maybe still lucky) to get the conditions I was waiting for. So, lets go to the actual fight

Here is final line-up using Life Splinter
- HORNY TOAD. Low Speed, low Melee Attack, Slow. Basically no advantages :)
- FURIOUS CHICKEN. To fill free slot. May save some life to other Monsters
- GOBLIN MASTER. Low Melee, lower Speed, lower Life. Additional Blast ability
- HOBOGOBLIN. Low Melee, average speed. Double strike
- SILVERSHILED KNIGHT. High speed, low Melee, additional Armor. Inspire!
- COCATRICE. Low Melee, average speed. Flying ability
Basic idea was to use Tyrus Palladium for additional armor, while Silvershield Knight adds +1 Melee attack. Rest monsters were chosen with lower Life and less Mana costs, while causing additional Melee damage (double strike and blast), even stronger with Inspire applied. Also hoping the opponent to bring some higher life monster into the game, to give even more Life advantage. And please not the line-up based on Magic :)
So was lucky enough to get Earth Splinter with high Life Unicorn Mustang at first line. And Horny Toard become real beast with +2 Melee and +10 Life, acting very well as tank. Have to admit Cocatrice caused 4 misses, while I guess would win even without.
Finally only mighty HORNY TOAD was dead in a fight like a Hero, keeping rest of army alive. Long memory!

I lost, of course. Two empty cards without any special conditions were too much.
My second try with a twist - Creeping Ooze instead of the toad as a lead :)This time the conditions were right and I won.
Looks good, just cant see foght consitions. Btw Exploding Dwarf in Equalizer is total beast as tank )

Awesome post axeman! But believe me, the horny toad is a needy card and it shall save you from many matches. First of all, you sure wanna have a reach card at small mana cost for certain rulesets, also it's poison ability is very good at taking front defence quickly.
I also loved your line up. Cocatrice is one of the best cards in spliterlands, thou it's underrated. And lastly, you did a clever job by putting the chicken in second place 😉 Stay well and keep writing.
