I've lost my pigs and my dogs aren't farming!
It's just a phrase that came to mind earlier this week when my partner asked how my day had been. And after I gave that answer, he looked at me and seriously wondered if I had gone mad.
“Um, are you still okay?”
I wondered what was so hard for him to understand. It's obvious. Yes, I'm fine, but I'm just a little annoyed. My dogs haven't farmed for a month because the animal farm was paused. I had 2 pigs then, and now I don't see my pigs anywhere in my wallet. My dogs were farming pigs, but everything has been paused for a month and that just costs money.
My partner looked at me again and asked if I could explain in plain language what I was talking about. Firstly, we don't have any pigs, and secondly, our dogs are not used to working at all. So why does that cost money?
Miscommunication!
I realized we were dealing with a miscommunication here. For me this was quite normal, but for my partner I was talking gibberish! He doesn't do anything with crypto himself, nor does he have any idea of the terms. So you can say that I did speak Dutch to him, but it could just as well have been gibberish to him.
The next day, it was time to create a Hive account for my sister, @gejami. Very easy for me. And after we brainstormed about the name she would like to use, it was a piece of cake. And then the fun begins!
Bears, Bulls & Whales
Now I had to explain how to navigate Hive, how to find the communities, how to manage her account. How it works to place a vote on a blog, not unimportant that a blog gets a payout after 7 days, and that it makes no sense to vote on a blog that is 8 days old. And many more things that are important to know, which are very normal for me. But what my sister was staring at, not knowing what to imagine.
When I also started talking about Bears, Bulls and Whales in my enthusiastic explanation, I lost her for a while. I was of course too excited to realize that right away. But when I also told her that we are all waiting for the bull to come back to shoot us to the moon, she interrupted my story, and asked me if I had watched a bad Star Wars impersonation.
Fiat, ... or Ferrari?
Now, if you think I've learned my lesson, think again. I got into a conversation with one of the few friends I still talk to in recent years. We were told about a colleague of hers who broke off a relationship because the man in question had no money to meet the demands of the lady. Would that be a reason for me to end a relationship? To which I, without thinking, exclaimed that I would never judge a man by his fiat. Now, I have to tell you that this friend may know that I do something with crypto, but that she really hasn't delved into it yet. Didn't even think about it. The term fiat therefore had a completely different meaning for her. And she told me with a smile that she would also prefer her husband to drive a Ferrari! But that in this day and age we should actually be happy if he would arrive in any car at all, even if it's a Fiat.
Duh, the penny dropped again, and I rushed to explain to her that I wasn't talking about cars. That fiat is a term within the crypto world to indicate the national currencies. And that a Ferrari or Fiat has nothing to do with that. At most, that shows how much fiat someone owns. LOL.
All in all, I had a moment to realize that crypto terms are not yet known by everyone. What sounds normal to me, and has become everyday fare in the four years that I see the blockchain as my virtual home, is really a kind of space language for other people. The language of the cryptoverse, and while everyone is welcome, not everyone is at home there yet.
PS: I have found my pigs back, they are in the pig pen now
hhaaha, yes it was very funny, i think i was watching you if i could see water burning .... but it is great to see you so enthousiastic about something, because that was a very long time ago, i think since our father died. i've never seen you so motivated and exited about live in general again ....... so i'm happy that you found this world to explore, and that you and your partner are doing well these days
Thanks sis, and yeah it never was so easy to stay enthusiastic and motivated. No one tells me what to do. I don´t have to listen to a boss, and I´m in charge of my own time! Enjoying more freedom in my life than ever before, while still making money. And it´s only getting better.
But that in this day and age we should actually be happy if he would arrive in any car at all, even if it's a Fiat.🤣
oH well the crypto world is a new world on its own and we have our language so it will be hard for offline people not in crypto to understand some of our slangs, it is funny though lol
I love it ... and it just showed me how much I've grown in this big Cryptoverse since I started 4 years back as a completely newbie myself.
Oh, this whole post resonated with me so much, lol! There have been times when people ask me what I do and as I blurt out, I am a blogger on a blockchain-based social network and I read, send, and receive emails on the world's first blockchain-based affiliate marketing mailer system, I notice that their eyes glaze over about half way through. It's fun! Then I tell them I am also a farmer, place in the world zen restored lol!
Then again, us cryptoversians do speak a pretty cool language, I love it when people talk about hodling their Hive as we head to da moon!

That's another fun one. Blurting out, I'm earning good bucks for just sending out one mail. And reading and clicking the mails I receive earns me more. People are like, WHAT? HOW?
But yeah, I do like our language too. I love being one of the early Cryptoversians in the big, ever-growing Cryptoverse!
The earning money from sending and reading email thing just floors people doesn't it? They always want in too, but then they glaze over a bit when I tell them how I worked up to such a gig. LOL!
Then again, once in a while I come across a denizen of our world and boy do the terms every fly! Seriously can't wait to see what the future holds in our realm😊

Yeah, I can understand that ... but my post was all about how we have our own language, and how people NOT in crypto don't understand that at all. That's why I started with something that anyone in crypto could relate to, but for someone not in crypto ... it's like I've lost my mind. 😂

Not sure if you can compare this to the previous cycles, I´m hoping it won´t take 2 years anyway. But well, we have to wait and see what´s going to happen. The next Bitcoin halving is in 2024!
And another thing is Ferrari is owned by FIAT actually 😅. I don't know when LAMBO became more crypto (Need for Speed maybe🤣)

Lol, we usually only see the speed in crypto when Bitcoin suddenly crashes. You can say what you want about Donkeys, but once those donkeys want to go up and find a path, they go for it. Slowly but surely they find their way. And if they want to go down, they do so carefully. Maybe donkeys are better for crypto than Lambos.
