Personally, I have always liked to draw, since I was a child and I always had colors and markers to unleash my creativity. Over time I became interested in pencil portraiture and I made many drawings, not only of faces but of various subjects, however, for some reason I was afraid to use colors on those drawings hahaha, I only drew in pencil. I heard about a course on the uses of color and I signed up, after that I lost my fear of colors in my drawings and I began to use them more frequently, in fact, for a while I became obsessed with oil painting. Last year I became interested in watercolor, it´s an element that I had never worked with so I decided to buy a watercolor kit to start practicing and thus discover something new and get out of my comfort zone, which in my case are pencils, colors and markers.

This painting is my first attempt with watercolor, I am learning and trying to use what little I know and what I have been researching about this beautiful technique. I decided to start with a little bird because they are certainly beautiful and very photogenic to paint with watercolors. To work well with this technique, you must use a special paper for it, which is thick and ideal for absorbing the most important element of watercolor, water. I didn´t use that paper, I know that it´s essential to achieve an optimal and quality result, but since I am in a stage of knowing and discovering watercolor, I will continue working on normal cardboard by now, so I apologize to the experts in this technique.

Now, I will show you the process of my drawing. Although I took a photo as a reference to make my painting, I changed several elements of it. First of all, I decided to make a sunrise background so I started by coloring in yellow, orange and red and the sky with various shades of light blue, likewise, I put the sun peeking out between the two shades.

La cartulina normal no sopota tan bien el agua así que suele doblarse un poco y hay que dejarla secar bien / Normal cardboard doesn´t withstand water so well so it tends to bend a little and you have to let it dry well

Once the background dried I draw with a pencil the little bird and the branches.

I started by painting the branches, the top of the bird, the beak, the eye and its legs. Another element that I also changed a bit was the original colors of the bird that I took as a reference.

With the red color highlighting the small fruits on the branches, the drawing was taking on more life.

Le di color a la cola y un toque de luz a las ramas y a los frutos.

I gave color to the tail and a touch of light to the branches and fruits.

Los frutos empiezan a cobrar vida / The fruits start to come to life

IMG_20220407_133753.jpg

Something very important was missing to give life to the face of that beautiful little bird, a few touches of light and shadow in its eye and in its beak as well as in some parts of its wings, head, legs and tail, I added a few touches of shadow to the fruits too and this was the end result.

Ahora solo faltaba recortar el lado izquierdo de la cartulina / Now it only remained to cut the left side of the cardboard
