Hey, hello! I've been missing portraits so I decided to make one inspired by fashion. This painting has a peculiarity, the white color of my watercolor palette is finished so instead of rushing out to buy a new palette, or saying that I won't paint until I have white color or making up any other kind of cheap excuses not to get out of my comfort zone I decided to paint without white.
Como es un retrato, por lo general uno utiliza la gama de tonos crema, rosados y marrones para darle color a la piel, pero para hacer el degradado y darle las luces y sombras casi siempre hay que utilizar blanco para rebajar los tonos, al menos que se cuente con una paleta muy completa que los traiga ya listos. Mi paleta es muy básica así que se me ocurrió hacer algo diferente, pero de que pintaba ese retrato, lo pintaba jajaja.
As it's a portrait, generally we use the range of cream, pink and brown tones to give color to the skin, but to do the gradient and give the lights and shadows almost always we use white to reduce the tones, at least that you have a very complete palette that brings them ready. My palette is very basic so it occurred to me to do something different, but one thing was sure, I will paint that portrait, hahaha.
Me dije "¿Y si en vez de blanco utilizo otro color?", y entonces opté por el amarillo como color base de la piel así que no piensen que es que la modelo tiene hepatitis jajaja, solo que tiene un estilo digamos que pop. Bueno, ya hablé bastante vamos a la acción.
I said to myself "What if I use another color instead of white?", and then I opted for yellow as the base color of the skin so don't think that the model has hepatitis hahaha, she just has let's say a pop style. Well, too much talking, let's take action.
Lo primero por supuesto fue dibujar a lápiz el rostro y el contorno del cabello de la modelo.
The first thing of course was to draw in pencil the face and the outline of the model's hair.
Ahora si, llegó el momento de darle color a la piel, al principio me daba como miedo de como se pudiera ver pero como bien dice un dicho, "el ser humano sufre más por lo que se imagina que por lo que al final termina sucediendo", me dije que experimentar es aprender así que si salía mal y no me gustaba pues no pasaba nada. Cuando ví a la modelo pintada de amarillo me gustó, se veía interesante jejeje.
Well, time to give color to the skin, at first I was afraid of how it could be seen but as a saying goes, "the human being suffers more for what he imagines than for what tends up happening in the end", so I told myself that experimenting is learning, so if it went wrong and I didn't like it, nevermind, no problem. When I saw the model painted yellow I liked it, it looked interesting hehehe.
Luego empecé a pintar el cabello, no soy muy experta pintando cabello pero poco a poco le fuí dando forma con varios tonos de marrón.
Then I started to paint the hair, I'm not very expert at painting hair but little by little I shaped it with various shades of brown.
Seguidamente pinté la chaqueta de negro, dejé que se secara y le dí otra capa más. Como decidí usar el color amarillo como base para la piel, los otros dos tonos serían el naranja y el rojo. Utilicé naranja para resaltar las mejillas, el mentón y las líneas de la clavícula y el pecho y el rojo para marcar la mandíbula y la nariz. También usé estos colores para las sombras en la oreja.
I then painted the jacket black, let it dry and gave it another coat. Since I decided to use yellow as the base color for the skin, the other two tones would be orange and red. I used orange to highlight the cheeks, the chin, and the collarbone and chest lines and red to outline the jawline and the nose. I also used these colors for the shadows on the ear.
Pinté la ceja y empecé a marcar el cabello para darle más naturalidad y volúmen.
I painted the eyebrow and started to mark the hair to give it more naturalness and volume.
Ahora llegó el turno del ojo, primero marqué el párpado y las pestañas, luego le di color al iris y la pupila, dibujé los pelos de la ceja y le di profundidad a la mirada con la sombra.
Now it's the turn of the eye, first I marked the eyelid and the eyelashes, then I colored the iris and the pupil, I drew the hairs of the eyebrow and gave depth to the look with the shadow.
El siguiente paso fue pintar la boca y resaltar las sombras en la mandíbula, el mentón, la nariz y el espacio entre esta y el labio superior.
The next step was to paint the mouth and highlight the shadows on the jaw, chin, nose and the space between the nose and the upper lip.
Por último y para darle un estilo fashion ochentoso se me ocurrió decorar el fondo con papelillo de color gris y negro que tenía por ahí de hojas que reciclo. Y este fue el resultado final.
Finally, and to give it an eighties fashion style, I decided to decorate the background with gray and black colored paper that I had lying around from sheets that I recycled. And this was the final result.
Me encantó el resultado, quedé muy satisfecha, haber elegido el amarillo como color base para la piel le dió un estilo totalmente diferente al de la foto que usé de inspiración. Algunos ajustes con filtros que le hice a mi pintura.
I loved the result, I was very satisfied, having chosen yellow as the base color for the skin gave it a totally different style from the photo I used as inspiration. Some adjustments with filters I did to my painting.
Conclusión, en el arte tenemos que romper nuestros paradigmas y atrevernos a experimentar con cosas que quizás no nos convenzan mucho o que parezcan locas jajaja, es la única manera de crear algo diferente. Al final, si sale mal o no te gusta simplemente lo botas y listo jajaja.
Conclusion, in art we have to break our paradigms and dare to experiment with things that may not convince us very much or that seem crazy hahaha, it's the only way to create something different. In the end, if it goes wrong or you don't like it, just throw it away and that's it hahaha.
