It's from a french author, called Jean d'Ormesson, very popular among my sisters and mother long time ago.
In english, the above quote can be translated as:
"When a woman, still attractive, enters in her daughter's room, already irresitible".
Jean D'Ormesson belonged to french the upper bourgeoisie, with catholic roots and very conservative. In his works he reflected the tensions between correct education and secret passions.
Catholics realy fears sexuality. It's the sin among all the sins.
But, paradoxically, this demonization of sex makes, for many Catholics, the most irresistible thing in life.
At that time, some decades ago, sex within Catholic families was practiced in secret without any education.
At school, Catholic teenagers only spoke about sex, for years. It was an obsession. Then, when they discover Romantic litterature, all of them wanted to be, of course, the Evil.

I wonder if for a Catholic girl, the devil is also an irresistible sex symbol
